That's due to your skill being insufficient, not a feature of the game.
There's nothing that says that a fake can't beat the real thing.
You must not imagine that for beings like you and us there can be laughter. The low men laugh, and we envy them. But for us, the higher ones, there is no laughter, only an unending vigil, purely serious, stretching on into the night.
Why did the darius get visage when the only AP on the enemy team was lux?

i picked a poke midlaner (ziggs) into a tanky hard engage comp (braum, amumu, ekko, katarina, cait) silly me
but frankly i'm unsure what i should have picked instead
should i have taken an midlane adc like corki with repositioning skills so that i'd be more able to kill tanks and selfpeel from engages?
should i have taken lissandra or sol and used my aoe cc/invulnerability to diminish their engage but giving up the range/dps necessary to actually kill anyone?
would karthus's raw damage and soft-cc from his w/rylais been the best choice?
woe is me woe is me
azir probably would have done a decent job with his own dps, repositioning and peel-ult but i don't want to bother learning him especially in the state he's in now

Morgana Mid is a potential solution to this. She has surprising survivability as the game goes on because she naturally wants to go Rod of Ages, Zhonyas, and Abyssal in some order (the last is optional normally but required against that team comp). She offers just a heck of a lot of utility. Sure, you aren't likely to solo carry the game against that comp depending on how Amumu and Ekko are itemizing, but you can do really well and enable the rest of your team to do a lot. Just remember in lane that you can't use your Q aggressively: it needs to be saved for after she jumps.
Galio mid is also a potential answer against that comp because only Cait would do damage to you.
oh right morg
and galio
i also think i did the wrong build
abyssal scepter should have come a lot sooner, as a well as a champ pick that could more effectively abuse it
also, you being sarcastic about morg and galio? It's not like they're particularly weird choices. Well, galio is, but against almost all AP it's a choice that makes sense.
So, i got flamed in my most recent game for going cull first. I'm not that upset at the flaming simply because I know it's A.) wrong and B.) frustration, but is Cull really that bad compared to Doran's?
I know Doran's is better for trading, but Cull is for farming, isn't it?

You can get away with it if you're lower than about low gold, but people start abusing level 2 powerspikes and brute forcing trades more often beyond that. It's a good buy later on if your back is efficient enough to buy it (and you have slots) simply because it will eventually pay off with extra gold, but the combat stats are too important at the very beginning when you need to either try to force an advantage or mitigate the enemy's advantage enough to be able to farm.
What about Dark Seal? I've had good experiences going dark seal on kata

Dark seal is good in cases where the other guy has some hard/impossible to avoid poke but is also squishy and killable - or when you're confident you're a thousand times better than your opponent and will killinate them over and over.

Personally i don't understand the argument of getting it on the first/second back, over getting it immediately, and getting a doran's blade on the first/second back.
You just delay the item earning you money.
And unless your in a super aggresive lane or something like that (so essentially in lanes you wouldn't go Cull anyway logically) i don't see the real point to it.
Returning win rate: 4/1, 80%
In the process of creating a game to mod, we will see what it holds.
You go cull in basically every lane if you have the spare gold for it.
The issue is that getting it immediately means you lose out on having the *option* to trade or be aggressive because you flat out just lose trades with the item difference.
Level two powerspike becomes less scary if you get it and more scary if they get it, etc, etc.
