Always will support this series since it's consistently good
And yeah Layton vs. Phoenix Wright should be awesome since I love both series involved

The last two cases really make the game (AAI2) and it's definitely superior to AAI1
But it's not the best in the series by any means, yeah. Since Ace Attorney is that kind of series that continues to produce high-quality games even after over a decade of new games being released.

IDK, the last two cases of AAI2 had really hammy moments that kind of broke the mood, between
improbable amnesia driving the plot (however good a case it turned out to be in spite of that) and the idiot's redemption
. Cases 1 and 2 were more interesting IMO.
Though I'm very grateful for the final encounter in Case 5 basically saying "look, I could string this along for another three hours, but let's just admit some things and get to something I -really- think you couldn't figure out." The benefits of not being able to abuse diplomatic immunity.

Not contesting it's better than AAI1, though the non-Logic Chess parts of the game seemed kind of easy.

I might've just been really happy to see Debeste not being so smug because he is the worst thing about Cases 2 and 3. Case 1 was great too though, yeah. I might just be biased because I like how the plot was more cohesive, instead of "oh hey smuggling ring" everything actually does relate. Though Roland seemed pretty much shoehorned in for Case 5 simply because she existed.

I didn't "see" as much as "play" a fanlation :V

And it is kind of uncomfortable but the game sort of knows that. If you choose the harsh options in logic chess to be a dick you get an instant game over, because screw you. I didn't really have any sympathy for him up to that point though so it was nice to not actually hate him.

Layton vs. Wright has none of the standard AA-style investigations so you'd probably love it
And yeah the trial bits are always more exciting than the investigations but they do tend to be necessary, so eh

if you're starting ace attorney, really starting anywhere other than with AA1 is going to leave you unhappy or pissed or whatever oman is about the game
case 1 is easy as hell in every game
AA5 is p. much the easiest game in the series though so

Also, finished Layton vs. Wright. It's definitely more a Layton game than an AA game which basically doesn't matter at all since both series are fun series and having them together just makes for a fun game

oh good, the most tedious and drawn-out case that isn't Turnabout Ablaze

I don't dislike it but I've already played through it like twice which is once more than any sane person should play through that case really
and it really is way too damn long. it's three game-days that are AA2/AA3 length, which makes it 33% longer than any other case in the series

2-1 is one of the cases I see that pretty much nobody likes, lol
whereas 4-1 is the best AA4 case by a good margin
2-3 isn't that bad, I just find some of the characters annoying; but until AA5 I felt the entire series just had a third-case curse because they'd all been not up to par in the series; 3-3 is still alright but weaker than everything else around it

4-1, I2-1, 5-1, 3-1, 1-1, I-1, 2-1
2-2, 3-2, I2-2, 5-2, 1-2, I-2, 4-2
5-3, I2-3, 3-3, 1-3, I-3, 2-3, 4-3
2-4, 1-4, 3-4, I-4, I2-4, 5-4, 4-4
3-5, 5-5, I2-5, 1-5, I-5

AA4 is either the worst or best in every category
it's being p. damn unfair to 5-4 there I know but I'd rather do it this way than the way Nat did
2-4 is still the best thing in the series though

I also realized that I don't tend to like case 2's a whole lot either, huh
My biggest gripe with 3-2 is Adrian Andrews to be fair since she's my favorite character in the entire series in 2-4 and she's not very interesting in 3-2 :<

Godot's pretty cool but it wasn't the first time a full-bar penalty had been done, really.
Especially since you can get nonstandard game-overs in 1-5 and 2-4, aside from that 3-2 also did the full bar thing and I'm pretty sure others before had done it too

Godot's pretty cool and 3-5 is pretty awesome as a result though, yeah.

I think it's because fans complained about the pacing of the 3 day trials when AA1 first came out, so instead they swapped it for longer sections of gameplay but less days.
Then
5-4 and 5-5 come in and are basically one three trial case so it's not like they're completely gone

I don't mind either format, the storytelling based around the 2 day trials is still plenty interesting anyways.

You'll always have all the evidence you need for trials, they make sure of that. (It's actually all manually inserted into your inventory at the start of each section, I think, since the order of stuff changes around between investigation and trial sometimes.)
I don't remember the specifics of specific testimonies though else I'd help.

I think I did one of these before in this thread not too long ago
let's see if I can recreate it though
AA3 > AAI:2 > AA5 > AA1 > AA2 > AA:I > AA4

something like that
AA1:2, AA5, AA1 could probably be in any order and I'd be happy though, the rest is pretty set in stone

Rise from the Ashes was made after the entire original trilogy specifically for the DS version, and it introduced mechanics (and a few characters) that show up in Apollo Justice, it sort of has to be taken separate from the rest of the game. So no, not a cute little epilogue :P
And yeah it is way too long, it's 3 full days of AA2/AA3-length, but those games are limited to 2 days per case, so it's about 1.5 times as long as any other case in the series. One of the main things that keeps me from replaying it much at all.

psyche-locks are a great mechanic that made the investigations in AA2 and AA3 way better than in AA1
the mood matrix was alright, i mostly just liked when they screwed with it in case 5

Spoiler: aa6 spoilers sort of
case 4 feels like such a filler case. the most filler of filler-y cases. what does that add to the overall story. it wasn't even a particularly special case either. and it was just one trial day. and considering the overarching story i cannot see it possibly having an impact in the last case (assuming case 5 is the last one which is generally a safe assumption to make???) but yeah ok

also they are actually on pretty good terms after the first game since

most of edgeworth's issue was a result of von karma, which he does his damndest to shake off after learning that von karma killed his father and lied to him for 15 years

Spoiler: 6-5
this is actually kind of infuriating. once i saw the picture i immediately discerned
1. amara is still alive
2. nayna is amara
3. amara is rayfa's mother

the game only caught up to 1. where i currently am, the first to be continued of the trial (maybe the only one, i have no clue)

but it's just. okay. the game won't let you point out the glaringly obvious red dot on "dhurke" in the seance
and now apollo's like "lol there's only two spirit mediums in khura'in, ga'ran and maya"

hey guess what dumbnuts
AMARA

THE FORMER QUEEN

IS A SPIRIT MEDIUm

AND YOU KNOW SHE IS ALIVE

AND NYANA IS SUDDENLY MISSING

GEEE I O WOOOONDDDEERRRRRR

omg.

i also don't suspect ga'ran at all, even though the game clearly seems to want me to. she's like the lawful neutral to von karma's lawful evil. she's got nasty words but as a prosecutor she's been fairly reasonable and knows when to not try to deflect an argument. i mean aside from all the "off with their heads" talk. but yeah.

so i secretly suspect amara is actually kind of horrible and set the fire to stage her own death then killed inga and tried to pin the murder on dhurke
i just think she might really hate dhurke for some reason since she's tried to pin a crime on him twice now?

i also have to wonder if the fire armie talked about is related to the fire from 23 years ago, because it probably is, that was not resolved in the first half of the case at all so
anyways that's all my rambling, i don't think i'll be finishing the trial tonight but i have MANY WORDS TO SPEAK

Spoiler: 6-5 addendum
that makes for like, 5 bodies in this case? both armie's parents, jove, inga, and now dhurke???

is armie's mother going to be brought back up btw. she died in a fire. jove died in a fire. it has to be. connected

Spoiler: 6-5 the end but actually mostly 6-4
it was a good case, but it should've been two cases.

and @ SK my issue with 6-4 isn't that it's a filler case but that it's a filler case at the wrong time. case 4, historically, has either been the final case or the lead up to the final case. historically. literally every game. 1-4, 2-4, 4-4, final cases. 3-4, 5-4, both investigation games, big lead-up to case 5. here? a pretty stereotypical case 2 style case where we don't even get to investigate. logically speaking, it's probably a -better- case than 6-1, but it had expectations to live up to. and especially with how bloated 6-5 is there seems to be basically no reason for 6-4 to exist other than to go "oh hey athena and blackquill are in the game btw", that's the disappointing part about it.

that being said i love uendo so

also:
Spoiler: 6-5 there are actual spoilers here
the reveals all felt stunningly obvious, to the point where i did not get a single penalty during the entirety of that massive 3-part trial. maybe it's because i already knew most of the "shocking" reveals beforehand through basic common sense but. the one thing that did catch me off guard was ga'ran not being a spirit medium but there was really no way to even guess that until at least the end of the second part of the trial, so...

also was expecting a bit more out of jove's seance. but it was pathetically easy and really brief too. i like the seance mechanic a lot though, shame it likely won't be returning much if at all.

Spoiler: 3-4 but mostly just spoilers for the first game tbh
it's in the past, where Edgeworth is just starting out as a prosecutor, and he was a disciple of Manfred von Karma, so obviously he's really going to imitate him a ton when first starting out

hmm... yeah, wouldn't argue with that.
Spoiler: 3-4 and 3-5
dahlia is probably the most heartless, despicable character in the series tbh, definitely the most believable and fleshed-out for sure, absolutely awful, needs more death

remember that chronologically this is the earliest case in the entire series
edit: actually that's not quite true if you include the investigations games but w/e

played through the dlc case, i was slow for no particular reason
it's solid. they tried to go for an original trilogy feel for the most part so things are a bit quicker paced than the trials in the maingame. the villain was a bit disappointing and predictable i felt.
