I did not hear about this. Why is the world so cruel that I just now am hearing about this.

And after the last two pages I really want to play Dominion this weekend. And track down the booster pack for the original set.

What's a good time? I can host games online, and the client is free (the host has to have cards, but I do). I'm insanely rusty at 3-4 player, but I have played a bit of 2 player so I might have some advantage. But hey, Dominion is still fun~

I'd be in for this, depending on the time.
One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.

I should probably get Widow's Walk, given how Betrayal is one of my group's favorites and I'll be seeing them around 'Ween time.

A new version with big 'ol wooden obstacles instead of the current disk obstacles is supposedly being shipped in November (I'd guess December/January in reality) and it looks aaaaaawesome

Anybody have any Power Grid strategies? We played an abbreviated 5p game yesterday (only played to 7 cities but stopped at 5 when we realized that without stage 2, all but one of us would get blocked off at 6 cities lol). Fun game! I like the economic aspects like resource prices changing with supply/demand.
Part of the problem.

Stratgies in what sense?

Like what basic tips and tricks are or like how to optimize / game the mechanics level?

Mainly curious about general guidelines. Eg. about how much should you be bidding above a plant's normal price, how fast should you diversify to nuclear, etc.
Part of the problem.

You can't get blocked off in power grid, you can pay multiple connection costs at once.
Taking a break from the site.

Right, theoretically you should be able to "City hop" by paying the combined connections. You should also be getting up to three plants in a city eventually, so there should be enough locations for somebody to get to 7.

Power Grid is a three-hour game that basically comes down to the last turn as long as a given player wasn't knocked out of contention a long time ago. If you're remotely close to the lead, going first on the resource buy will probably win you the game if you've saved up for it.

The midgame and onward is a huge resource stuffing game. Since powering plants equals money, spending to stop others from getting an income (or breaking even) is etc. Similarly, if you can kneecap someone in the expansion phase by making it prohibitively expensive to bypass your cities, you can make the game a long and unrewarding experience for them while you can focus on one fewer player.

For similar reasons, picking up the cleanest power plant available is not necessarily a good idea if it gives you the highest-value plant. It doesn't matter if you have the Lv. 50 5-for-free God Lab if there aren't any resources left on the market to power your other plants since you're going last forever on that phase.

On the other hand, going into resources no one else is into is pretty cool. Garbage costs a lot early but if you're the first in that market you may be able to get a few turns of super-cheap fuel. The effect is similar for nuclear but probably not as large in magnitude.

Bear in mind it has been a few years since I played so etc.

Troll will say that when Troll loses Power Grid Troll usually feels that Troll bought too many plants throughout the game.

I think that's the big problem I have. I think you really don't want to buy more than 4-5 plants over the entire game- you might have to buy 1-2 cheap plants just to get income rolling, but after that, you should only be looking to buy plants that you'll keep until the end of the game.
