For me, I used to get some lag in 1.1, and it seems to have gone. Slow down is worse than it was before (but obviously that's not anyone else's problem to deal with). Slow down can be helped by changing graphics settings - particularly viewing distance, in my experience.

Thing is, it's a pretty ugly placeholder. It's not like we're short of trees to build on - if you wait and build when you can make what you want to make, the jungle will look nicer in the meantime.

Bad luck :(. Have you:

- Set all your video settings to minimum - "fast" graphics, no smooth lighting, etc.
- Decreased your rendering range to "short" or "tiny"
- Installed Optifine - makes things go faster

That would be me - and yes, I'll make it go above the water. Maybe not for a couple of days, though - I won't be on much and I'd like to do it properly. In the meantime, you're welcome to just chop a hole in it if it's urgent.

There's now a nether route to the second jungle - it's past the mushroom biome, and it's signed from the main hub. I've been working on a pyramid near the portal - please be careful near it, as the area isn't secure and it's very vulnerable to creepers. Other than that, come to the jungle! It is a fun place to build, and it has cats.

I'm pretty much certain I have cocoa beans, and maybe the others. You are welcome to them. My house is near the main town over a bridge, or has a nether portal.

I was using izak's awesome blaze farm (got two picks with Efficiency 4, Unbreaking 3, Fortune 3, one with Silk Touch), and I noticed it says I'm afk when I afk for a while. Does this have any consequences, or is it just for people's information?

Thanks! It's pretty much done now, other than Om's snow room (which needs to wait for 1.3 for ice). I'm now building a railway from it to the mushroom biome (and then possibly on to spawntown - but I'll need to do LOTS mining to get the rails first).

@UT: were you thinking of nether or overworld rails - I'm talking about overworld. The jungle is further out than the mushroom biome, so I meant connected the mushroom land to town.

@Maru: I'm afraid the big railway I've just nearly finished is one track and won't easily go to two while looking ok (it's a one-wide bridge). I'd love to see your station design - there's a couple of places I'd like to add stops on the way if it's easy to stop/start.

I'm glad there's enthusiasm for ambitious overworld railways :). We should make a map of planned/in progress/built railways. I'm having trouble downloading the world map (either from daily or dynamic) - can anyone help?

@UT: very glad to hear you're connecting spawntown to the mushroom biome by railway :). I thought the route might look nice if instead of being straight it goes north to somewhere around z=0 first - that way it goes along some nice coast rather than straight across the ocean. What do you think?

The mushroom - jungle railway is complete apart from stations at either end; it goes from very near the mushroom house to just outside the jungle near the temple.

Cobble will be smelted into Stone Bricks and turned into a beautiful wall.

I have 8 full double chests, and you can have anything up to 4 of them if you need that much. Building a huge underground base means you aren't short on cobble. I probably won't be on much for a few days - it's in my jungle temple basement, which these days you can get to directly via the nether (on from mushroom biome portal, then through the normal jungle portal and down a ladder).

Made some ender chests. Crossed a 10,000 block ocean finding only a weird group of mushroom islands I might build on. Walked forever. Found a desert temple.

Good first evening back on the server :)

How do I get to the portal to the surface from there? And do you have a base set up by your exit portal Fishy?

P.S. jmj3000 and I held an exhibition spleef match last night. Fun stuff, but that guy's a little too liberal with his shovel...
  I believe it was an even 1-1 when you had to leave, right jmj? I'd be down for that kind of thing some other time too.

The cobble path wasn't finished, should get you there now. IIRC the exit portal is by a desert tomb that's lit and has a bed, but I haven't set up a proper base in that part of the world.

Lots of recent building (ie. route to desert temple) in the nether seems to have vanished? Overworld stuff done at the same time still around. Could this be something to do with bukkit update?

I'm planning to write a tourist guide in a book, with attractions sorted by area, with coordinates, how to get there, builder, and a description.

The only thing of mine that I like and doesn't appear on Xalxe's current list is the railway which runs (for now) between the jungle temple and the mushroom house/creeper church.

@maestro: For the ones I built; creeper church is near the mushroom house. You can get to them by walking through the nether towards my base, but taking the "mushroom biome" portal. It's then a short railway ride to the mushroom house. Alternatively, take the railway from the portal above my base. The floating castle is near town, above the sea.

Dunno about the others, not sure I've seen them.

So, I've finally finished my railway connected the jungle temple and mushroom house to spawntown. It's well over 1k if anyone needs that achievement. Currently leaves from my house in spawntown - the one in the hill with mushrooms on. But proper spawntown station should definitely be a project - I'd happily use that house, or help build one elsewhere.

Reverse auction!

I'm looking to buy 100 blocks of lapis (= 900 lapis ore). I have diamonds, coal, iron and redstone to trade for it. If you want to bid to sell me some or all of it, bid in here - lowest bidder wins.

Unfortunately, I also need thousands of sandstone at the moment, so that deal's not as attractive as it would normally be. The winning bid is currently 63 diamonds from T-Bone. Bidding closes when we go 24 hours without a lower bid.

I'll buy Xalxe's 30 in addition to the 100, at whatever price we end up at (rounded to the nearest diamond).

Xalxe: my skytown house would be easy (it's the wooden one near the warp).

In post 8524, Maestro wrote:Fishy: what is your value on other things? Sandstone was a random one I wouldn't've guessed...
What other things would make appealing trade currency given your situation?

I'll value coal, redstone, iron bars, diamonds at 1:1:10:200. Gold I have essentially none of. I've got a fair bit of obsidian I could part with, lets value it at 40 (but only 3 stacks available). I've no real wish to do anything particularly time consuming - 9 wither skulls are probably out (and wouldn't beat the diamonds anyway - in the points scale I'd have 1 wither skull = 2000 or so, given how long they take me to acquire compared with diamonds). I can't think of anything else valuable, but if there's anything else you'd like ask.

So, current best bid is still 63 diamonds = 12600 (unless Klaz's 50 diamond bid stands), plus 30 at the lowest price from Xalxe.

---

I may be able to make some of window B, but quite likely I won't be on at all :(.

If you'd prefer not, the 50 diamond bid will stand.

Having tried to hunt wither skulls, their points value was badly underrated, and I'm not going to be hunting any more soon. So 50 diamonds = 10000 points is our lowest bid.

Yep, with 24 hours elapsed the lapis is bought from Klazam for 50 diamonds. Xalxe's lapis is bought for 0.3*50 = 15 diamonds.

Thanks all. I hope to be buying much more at some future date, so do mine any lapis you see lying around.

Firstly, I'll just say that the Op abuse that's made it into the thread doesn't upset me. People with powers are always going to be tempted to use them, and this doesn't look a particularly bad example of that.

In post 8688, izakthegoomba wrote:I actually think Maru's fifth point is by far the most important. Up to this point, boundaries have simply not been a thing. Hell, until a few weeks ago nobody even cared about Ops flying regardless of whether we had a reason or not. I am completely happy to abide by whatever restrictions the community thinks are necessary; the problem is that such restrictions have never existed.

When Claus made myself and Xalxe Ops, I believe he used the words "cool op powers to use at your discretion". And, no offence Claus, but I think that's played a significant part in this issue.

Without going into detail (at least now), what I feel about this is that if I find something a challenge/time-consuming/dangerous activity, I want the ops to as well. So, I don't want people to be:
a) Getting or enchanting anything unnaturally
b) Teleporting as a means of travel
c) Flying for travel or construction
d) Making any activity safer or quicker
e) Using creative mode for building or breaking
Where all of these have exceptions for ops doing whatever it is that ops have to do. And also, to some extent, for frivolous, passing fun (for which I will make no attempt to offer a decent definition). If Xalxe and izak want to have a flying fight, that doesn't affect me and I really don't mind.

Slightly late to the party, but I've thought about map regeneration. For me, pros:
1) Whatever biomey changes happen before we regenerate are in our map.
2) We would build a new awesome community town/city/something else. Spawntown for me feels like it wasn't built by the playerbase we have now, and also like it's rather deserted.
3) The bit of the game where you don't have everything set up for you is really fun. I haven't tried to achieve this by going off as a hermit - I don't think I have the willpower not to teleport back - but anyway it would definitely be more fun if everyone else was doing it.
Con:
1) We have built lots of shiny things. On a personal level, my jungle temple is the best thing I have ever built or will ever build in survival (and probably also in creative).

In my perfect world, at some point (probably after some sensible update) we'd mostly reset the map. Anything anyone feels is special enough to them that they'd not be happy playing on the server without it we would keep, within reason. Then we regenerate everything else, and have a mostly-empty map with the occasional monument from ancient times. If necessary, we move spawn so it's not too near anything from the old world. From the point of view of the community, the map would feel fresh, but without needing to destroy buildings people don't want destroyed.

Whether that would work would depend entirely on how much people feel they would need kept to be happy in the new world. For me personally, out of my 8 or so major building projects that would only be the jungle temple, and I wouldn't mind if it was far away from the new centre of activity and everything personal in it vanished.

So... I can't be bothered to read the whole thread since I've been gone - is there a new vanilla server and/or renewed action on the old one? If so I might have to have a minecraft binge when I get some spare time...

Cool, found that lot but was just wondering if there were more far-flung things I didn't know about. I actually quite like the semi-difficult beginning bit of a game, so I won't be using any of the town facilities for a while :-).

Haven't found a saddle, but a zombie dungeon did yield golden horse armour. No idea what that is, I haven't played in months. I'd forgotten how fragile I am without my armour, though... got killed by a mere three zombies and a skellie :P

For vanilla people: we now have an arrow/bones farm. Go down the water shaft at -273, 195 (in water very near spawntown). At some point I'll make the farm itself more beautiful, and add a proper entrance.

Who started building a giant house in the water in the Vanilla server to the west of my house/North of the lighthouse?

I know I haven't been active on the server over the past month, but the beauty of that bay was that it didn't have anything in it, now there is the beginning of a construction that is blocky and right in the middle of the water landscape, and has a Nether portal that breaks the previous Nether path between me and Klaz...
Pretty sure that is fishy's base that he started working on.

Regarding the nether portal, I guess you didn't manually place your nether portal at x/8, y, z/8 when you originally built it? thats the only way to ensure a link and to keep it no matter who builds nether portals nearby. http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Nethe ... and_Nether
Engh.

Yeah, I don't much like that base. Obviously it's not up to me and there isn't any such thing as laying claim to a piece of land, but I wish that whoever it is had asked first. I picked that spot specifically because I loved the view--now my "sea view" is that build instead. Thinking of relocating my whole house elsewhere, but argh.

Klaz fixed my portal when I built it, iirc. I'm not in the area to check it right now, and would have to go to Klaz's place through the overworld to see where his portal leads to now.
Yep, it is mine - wasn't going to be so blocky all the way up (and I thought I hadn't broken the nether... the portals I could find didn't change where they went). Sorry, didn't realise I'd be treading on any toes. I'm probably not going to finish it now - it was pretty ambitious, and I pretty much gave up because noone was ever on the server. I'll destroy it some time.

If you plan on not playing anymore could I ask you to or receive permission to tear it down? I apologize for the harshness but I agree with Tierce on its presence being quite the eyesore... If you'd been around to finish it up (whatever it was going to be) or if you had other ideas for how to lessen the stark-ness of it (and not in a Winterfell way), I apologize, but otherwise...I kinda feel like something should be done about it.
Wait what? I tore it down a week ago. It was quite fun, since you can burn most of it. If it's somehow still there, feel free to tear it down again, and if not I'll do it myself some time this weekend probably. Please relocate anything valuable-ish in the chests somewhere sensible.

I probably will play again, but I'll start with a much less ambitious house. And then maybe I'll try to recreate that one, I was pretty happy with my rough design (though I totally agree the state I left it in was ugly as fuck).

Spent a good half hour in the legacy server, going round spawntown (great town!) and taking the railway out to my jungle temple. Made me kinda sad - I'll probably never have the time or energy to build anything like that ever again. That build made me feel like I'd "finished" minecraft.

Does anyone know how to get to skytown without the nether?

I'm now back in the world of having a computer that can cope with minecraft, so hopping on the vanilla server now and hopefully a fair bit from now on.

EDIT: do I need to be re-whitelisted or something? I just get "Connection Lost - End of Stream" when I try to connect.

Hooray, I can connect now!

I'm slightly nervous from recent pages about building something cool and then having the server disappear from under me. If we do discontinue because of lack of interest, presumably whoever's running this show will pull out the world file and could send it around?

Speaking of which, does anyone know if the world file from the last vanilla server I played lots on is kicking around? It would be nice to do a trip round going "oooh, I had a lot of time on my hands in those days".

Hooray, Minecraft. Sweet town you spawn in on the vanilla server. I'm going to be exploring/building a rudimentary shelter/planning my first real project (something underwater? never done much underwater) this weekend.

I'm planning to play a fair bit this weekend on vanilla - and probably ongoingly in a sporadic sort of way if the server hangs around. I might convert to modded, but it seems a lot of effort to learn a new game - it would only be because that's where other people play :P.

I started playing on vanilla. Found a sweet canyon, so I'm building a canyon home.

There are some nice builds near spawn - is there anywhere else in particular that people have built cool things for me to visit?

Cool - if you are happy for me to grinderise the one near you (and therefore me I think... going by the nether, we're close), could you check the coords or show me some time? I may get infinity bows and farm blazes one day, but I could use the bones as well and rather liked making the farm :-)

Thanks guys, I'm equally happy to modify an existing farm, build access to one or build a new one :)

I'm on most UK evenings if you have time to hop on and show me. I'm also planning to have a bit of a binge this coming weekend (maybe build something shiny; I'm just getting to the "I have everything I really need" stage). Would be great to see some of you around!

I'm doing it with sponges and milk to counteract the anti-mining; haven't got to potions in this world yet.

I found it while filling a full-scale map, right in the furthest corner. It's around (1800,1800); there's a (very rudimentary) nether route.

In the end, I went for a bit of each. I've built a base in some of the bottom floor of the monument (this thing is huge!) and built an OK guardian grinder - but certainly don't want to ruin the whole area making an efficient one. Visitors welcome - though I'm not done with this place yet :-)

Oh, I should really give directions... my spawntown nether portal is near Rhinox's, follow the fish. Right by my portal is a nether railway.

Also, if anyone plays vanilla again and fancies building a base in the other half of the monument - you're very welcome.

Over in Vanilla, I've finished exploring the area in the positive directions from spawn. The highlight is the ocean monument I've now converted into a base:

Another highlight was this cute flower biome which I've not seen before. I might have to build a house there.

One thing I didn't find was a mushroom biome. Anyone know of one?
