Tbh Swain is basically broken right now at silver elo. People aren't good enough to shut him down early so he can easily farm up and then 1v3 because of his regen and high damage. Played against him and he was regening faster than a lucian karma and graves could deal damage to him with three items.

Also having just played a custom game with some friends where there was a brand, ahri and full ap sona on the enemy team as tristana, I recommend standing behind tanks. It won't allow most skillshots to hit you. You can also wait for the main damage threats to be cc'd and then walk up to auto them when they are unable to damage you. Another thing that is a bit more difficult is knowing what the cooldowns of the enemies abilities are. For example, when I saw the enemy ahri use their charm I knew I had ~6 seconds where that wasn't a threat and I would be able to get closer to the ahri and auto them. Doing that for every single champion on the enemy team can be a bit difficult, but it is kind of just the state of adcs right now, sadly.

Jokes on you, no one plays tanks in silver because they think the are going to carry the game. And then the enemy camps you so you get really far behind. And then still focusses you. And you can do nothing.

I understand the getting camped thing and it sucks (one game by the 14ish minute mark I had two tf ults bot lane, a tp, a volibear waiting in my bush and multiple other volibear lurking around things) but in that case you need to just farm, not try to.engage and fight (otherwise enemy team just tf ults and tps) but in the case of no tanks: Hopefully you dont have to deal with this but what you can do is try to play a safer adc. For example you could go lucian ezreal or caitlyn. Lucian is super strong rn with his mobility dps and burst damage and a billion other reasons. Anyway, you can stay safe with him using his dashes. Ezreal, long range, short cooldown flash so you can stay sage. Caitlyn, proper trap placement and your range plus net will help you stay safe. I would have to see specific games to give better advice but you should probably just ask gendaberry anyway cause he is much better than me.

Lucian and cait are in my top four adcs (second and fourth). Basically people 4 man you every fight if you play lucian, and if you play caitlyn without a frontline the rest of your team dies immediately before you can deal enough damage and you end up being left with 3 people running you down. Adcs don't have enough kite options at the moment and at my elo most players (including myself to a certain extent) aren't good enough at peeling to keep you safe, and you have to rely on your own kiting mechanics which have to be VERY high level to survive at the moment.

Till you realize it's absolutely glorious to be the only tank in a game. Just go completely full tank, your base damages are significant vs people who buy full offensive. And then they have to deal with you or get out of your way, and there is nothing that can deal with you because they cannot stand long enough next to you to kill you because your teammates will wreck them. So they have to "focus the carries", but have no dedicated engage, while your team has peel (which is you, the god of the rift). Everybody in silver can group up and push mid (I mean, it's that or baron...) and you can hardly lose that fight.

I'm pretty sure last season my galio winrate was inflated because I got into many a game like that (picking mid then realizing my top was squish and their entire team was squish).

Current meta might be worth sticking the adc in bronze. They aren't going to do a huge amount in the current meta and a decent defensive support will stop them from feeding. Stick them on ezreal and tell to try to hold their e for defensive use and they should be ok.

Going in is fine. Unless they have a stun in which case they use it on you and you die because they saw you coming from miles away and prepped it. Or even a lot of damage which they can throw at you. You have no escape unless someone behind you isn't on e cooldown. Even then it isn't a huge distance.

Basically, in lane support set up the adc to deal damage. Unless you are in extremely low ELO then your adc will almost know how to follow up, but if your support isn't either setting you up or protecting you you are basically playing 1v2.

The 'vast majority of players' not missing the support role is completely different to 'most support mains' not missing the role.

I would argue that most support mains, are such because SOMEONE has to support, not because they actually want to be a support. Even ani admits to wanting to jungle rather than support. Most supports would rather be something else. Why do you think you have such a large pool of "support mains" in lower elo that are just auxillery mid laners and not actual supports?

But that's mostly just gut.

The fact that support isn't directly impactful and that the vast majority of players will not play it are both objective facts.

To be fair this doesn't apply to everyone, I main support in Silver and play Thresh, Ali shen pre-work, and Morgana with a proper support build and not full ap with a 25 minute RoA finish.

Shens almost always do badly when I play games against them for some reason. VS Irelia(my main top) I estimate they land maybe 5% if their taunts

They are bad then. In lane i probably land about 50% at least and the ones that don't land are due to them dodging or a slight miscalculation.

A major issue with shen is that him landing his engage isn't nearly as threatening as just about any other engaging melee champion in the game, damage-wise. It enables ganks well, but aside from that you're not really going to be like "oh no shen landed one engage, I am about to die or nearly die" - whereas if you get caught by renekton, xin, olaf, cho'gath, pantheon, et al and get all in'd, you're probably dead.

So if you aren't about to die, you can just kinda... keep hitting the guy as he tries to walk away after hitting you. Whereas against the aforementioned people, you're either dead or about to be if you keep hitting them, so you have to back off somewhat, leading to them to be able to walk away from you and wait for their cooldowns.

The thing is, people at my ELO don't expect it from Shen, and don't respect his damage, so they will keep letting you trade with them while your cooldowns are up.

I agree that dodging is stupid.
That being said, I am eriously considering starting when I am playing adc and get a lux support. It always go the same - they start dorans, get no wards or support items, feed in lane and try to play like a mid laner despite going 0/7 and screwing my lane up.

When playing Jinx. look to only use your chompers when they are guaranteed to help so they have solid uptime. Try to use rockets as poke but pay attention to mana. In teamfights stay behind tanks, wait on your passive and then go ham. Try to use your ult on the first person to die in a fight to get your passive going if you haven't attacked them or need to burst them more.

Well, you can't kite. Neither can I. There's this wonderful command called "attack-move", which when alternated with moving normally could help you position during the fight much more easily and avoid silly deaths by walking on top of your assaillant. Many years of lol and several attempts have not managed to get that in my fingers, then again, I don't see all that many opponents use it. If you are serious about adc'ing though, that's probably something you want to pick up.

This is very true.

The AD carry's job is not to be the first into the fight. It is also not to be the one who runs down the enemy carries. It is just to stay alive and keep autoattacking. You are about sustained damage, not picks.

In Silver, your team will whine about you attacking the tank and screech about "FOCUS ADC NOOB".

Your team is wrong.

So long as you are safe and autoattacking, you are doing your job. You do not have to run past the Renekton in your face to throw one auto at the Jinx on the other end of the river.

Now, there are times when you

can

do that, but that gets into tracking cooldowns and everything, and you really don't need to worry about that at a Silver level. For now, just focus on staying alive, but autoing as much as you can while staying safe. This very basic mechanical skill is enough to get you through Silver and up to, I'd say, somewhere around Gold I.

i don't really think adcing is harder or easier than any other role when it comes to making your team win, but i can't think of a way to prove (or disprove) it

what would it look like if a role were harder than the others?
if it were really hard to be effective as an adc, maybe on average adc main winrates would vary less from 50% than the winrates of other role mains when they have equivalent levels of experience?

So, this bothers me, and it's something super tiny that I run into at p much all levels which makes complete sense to me that I can't seem to explain to other people.

At some point of the game you are going to group up as a team to go "do" something, be that pushing, be that going for dragon/baron. Now your team isn't homogenous, there's some bulk (top/jungle/tank supp maybe some control mage) and some backline (adc, mid mage, ranged support). Obviously there's tons of ways to set that up but the general principle goes. There are people who should avoid getting hit, and there are people who don't mind getting hit for a little, as long as their backline deals more damage.

Now the game isn't so boring that you have to break through the wall before you can kill the juicy squishies. There's mobility abilities, and cc, but most basically, there's: "the flank". You come through a direction that the frontline doesn't cover and the backline falls easily! Now nearly often the obvious direction is the same as the direction of the lane, that's covered. If the enemy wants to flank, he'll have to give up your direct line to their towers/base and have to walk a little longer. There's a trade off.

So why oh why would you position your team in such a way that the most obvious position for them to be in, is also the one they could most succesfully flank from? Why, because someone pinged dragon obviously:

Team pushes up mid as a response, and when they got to the river, they turn right, finding some of the opposing team already there doing scuttle or whatever. Pretty common situation. Now if the x's aren't warded, the backline basically can't walk into the river, they die to something coming through mid, something jumping over the wall, or something hiding in the brush. The frontline then, does not have the damage to back them up, there's no way to win as you've opened your team to a flank. If the x's are warded, the advantage is that you'll know when you can't walk there... but if there's someone standing accross the wall, you still can't actually have the frontline in front of the dragon pit.


More annoyingly, the situation where the frontline has "caught" somebody in mid, who limps out and is escaping into their jungle behind baron. Everybody is running, you don't know where their team is, and the back line becomes opened up to the blue angles of attack, with no cover as they are running after the guy that's almost dead but p much getting away.

And it's like that, pretty much everytime you leave the lane, if you don't have wards beyond where you are in their jungle, you can't actually do it without compromising your formation. You have to walk around.

People don't think ahead in lower ELOs. They don't think "we're going to be pushing up for a fight in a minute so I should try to get some wards around midlane". Also people don't really understand how much lane control influences where you can go on the map.

adcs are gonna come back in one or two patches. for now jgl then mid are the best roles to main. top if you are a strong early to mid champ works, but hyper scaling top laners aren't great atm.

If you just play carry mages botlane it's almost the same

I wish that were true, but the disparity in games at silver is just so bad that it's sometimes literally uncarryable. Had a botlane as zyra where me and my sivir managed to roam all three outer towers to kill them. Then we still lost because we had a full damage xin and a tank veigar

Had a game where I managed to make my Vayne fed. Meanwhile, top went 0-5, lost two towers and then ragequit leaving us with a fed akali who could oneshot our vayne.

Then had another game where people were already argueing in champ select and someone "accidently" banned yasuo who someone else wanted to pick, so that person was just hellbent to feed his ass off.

Some nights of league. Ugh

high bronze/low silver ELO are horrible. people know how to push a lead but not how to play from behind so coming back is really hard.

I've decided to come back to League of Legends on a trial basis, to see if it makes me any happier than it used to. I quit around the time Ivern was released - can you give me the rundown on any new champions, reworks, new items, or other changes that I should be aware of?

lethality was a lot stronger but is falling off slightly now. adc's have been basically trash outside of 1 or 2 every patch until now. we arent in a tank meta really. your looking at bruisers like renekton or fiora top, assassins in the jungle or bruisers like warwick. warlords has been reworked to stqack like a rapid firce cannon or stattik shiv which gives some buffs when procced. bond of stone got removed and replaced witha new mastery which means crowd control marks enemies and allies that attack marked enemies heal. those were the main reworks i think that are particularly important. edge of night might have come out after you left which gives lethality, ad, mr and a channeled spell shield. also healing supports are really strong and ardent censer is a great item (champs like sona and lulu). also they removed laser towers and made them normal.

it is always, always optimal to dodge. trying to punish people would be enough deterrence, but since your average league player is selfish there won't ever be enough people to make that possible. i would dodge in promotions series as the single case is much better than the worst and likely case of losing the game.

i've been enjoying unsealed on malz as you can take rly variable summs on him throughout the game (tp/ign/exh/ghost/heal/barrier all work) so depending on how the game plays out i can switch it up.

a lot of it is how you are doing or if you want something in lane or not. you might want to run exh early vs zed but prefer to have ghost mid game for roaming or switch to barrier if you get behind. you can also switch to ignite if you are ahead etc.
as you can fight on a p regular basis the reduced cooldowns from switching helps, and combined with hexflash for going over walls to catch ppl with your ult makes a p decent tree all around.

In all seriousness tho, I really think the people who hate on URF are not the target audience. Simple as that. Feel free to play ranked, and do what you like to do, and we will do the same. Winning is not always the priority.

The people who enjoy urf are the same people that enjoy aram. Lower skilled members of the community that don't care about getting better or trivial things like having a balanced experience. Essentially people who are bad and do not care that they are bad and only want to "have fun" by shooting a bunch of lux moves because if you shoot enough free skillshots eventually you'll hit one and you don't have to worry about pesky things like low accuracy. mana or cooldown to ruin your "late game fantasy". The irony is like...every game of lux ends in URF so like...just play lux and every game will be urf and you can play ranked and learn to play league which is a joyful yet arduous experience.
