Just out of curiosity Zor, if I may ask, why did you choose Pence as your first pick? Did you think Trump would stop after four years and think, "I don't want to do eight years?"

If I hadn't been at the turn I probably would have picked Cuomo as my #1, but since it didn't matter, I went with Pence.

In hindsight, I probably should have seen if I could have gotten him at the turn of 3/4 rather than 1/2, but I thought he provided value. A bit of this is post-facto mathery, but it gives my general thought process:


If I see Trump's chance of not finishing the term at 10%, Pence becomes pres. I think there's probably a 75% chance Pence runs and wins the republican nomination then and maybe a 40/60 chance he wins the popular vote. That puts him at about a 3% chance of being a winning ticket.

At the time I only placed Booker, Warren, Klobucher, Coumo and Brown as above a 5% chance, with Gillibrand, Biden, Harris, Kaine around Pence's level.

But do you think Pence would run against Trump? I could only really see this happening if Trump decides not to run (I don't see this as likely, given his personality. However, he would be 78 then. So possible.) And if Trump doesn't run, then yeah, Pence could/would very likely run.

No, I don't think Pence will run against Trump. I think he'll run if Trump doesn't though, and if Trump resigns or dies before his term is up, Pence runs as the President of his party, which makes challenges less likely.

To be clear, I think that's unlikely, but there's a reason our draft covers 120 people: everyone is unlikely when considered on an individual basis.
