What happens to players who join in, say, December? November? Not enough time to gain recognition, but enough time to be disqualified from the best rookie award for next year?

Heh, no, I was nommed in the last thread. It just seems that we'll simply end up with spring/summertime newbies getting the nom, regardless of whether an autumn/winter newbie is better

I don't know about baseball, but it does seem a weird way to go about it. Why not simply extend it backwards, say, to October, so people who joined October-December 07 are eligible for an 08 scummy?

I think you missed the point - best newbie is limited by whether they joined this year.

But it's not that important.
