I mean realistically speaking, the best title is probably one that somebody chooses for themselves in some ways. It is what they feel best represents them. Then again, if you'd prefer titles reflect what other people see about the person, then you'd get the best title by having people vote on it and not letting the user yes or no it. Of course, the best middle ground is having people vote for it, and then giving the final say to the user. Like we do.

Except that's a failed system. Because again, it's not truly a "community gift" it's a "I have x number of friends" gift.

Therefore, the 5 nths serve as a process to make sure the title itself is good for the person. 5 people does not a popularity contest make.

I believe that the nthing process goes further than that as people don't just nth any title for a user they like, they nom a decent title. I'm saying that your "five people which like you" doesn't actually stop people getting titles and isn't a high bar in that regard, while actually getting a title with 5 nths is, while not a high bar, also isn't such a low bar it is worth ignoring.

It weeds out a lot of the bad-to-mediocre suggestions (especially if a single user has many suggestions, the nthing process generally narrows it to just 1 or 2), and generates discussion which helps Psyche decide rather than him just deciding blind.

This isn't a random nom. it actully is very significant. Assemble is known for lurking more as town than he does as scum. It is part of his game play. It makes it harder for people to predict his alignment, and makes him more unique than other players. Lurking is his downfall a lot of times, but when the player list has played with him, they tend to know this is normal. He actually is a really good scum. He makes good posts (sometimes) when he does make posts. I think that if there was a title for him based off his game style, this would be it!

From my research, ancient Latin had no capilisation. Modern Latin does, and hence the capitalisation used doesn't actually follow any specific rules - it tends to just follow the rules which the writer chooses to use.

On one hand we are a forum in English, so it would likely follow English rules ("Deus ex Machina" where "ex" is lower case due to meaning a word we'd keep lower case I suppose). However, a lot of people (with fair justification) argue that, since Latin itself is strongly rooted in mainland Europe (especially Rome) that it should follow European/Italian grammar rules (in the case of titles, only first word capital e.g. "Deus ex machina")

Basically both sides have merit except all caps "Deus Ex Machina" because the "ex" being capitalised is kinda wrong in both and also ugly tbh I dislike the visuals when (non-I) short words are capitalised in titles, it looks bad.

I think the issue with how you handled it is that it was basically only ever going to play out the way it has, and also focuses discussion too much on whether or not what you did was right over discussing a different (hopefully better) replacement title.
