An interesting note is that the voting date, 8th June, is during exam season which is shady as hell, particularly for many 18 year olds who will be in the middle of A-level exams.
Maybe it's a coincidence, but considering that Conservative get a very low percentage of the youth vote it's really questionable.
Spoilt ballot if you honestly feel like you can't choose. Not a vote as such but still is counted and shows unhappiness with the state of things. It'd be better if you voted for someone but it's preferable to not turning up at all
Theresa got cocky about the strong lead so included things in the manifesto that were really strong and
stable
severe compared to usual with the idea that they'd win anyway and say "well we said we'd do XYZ and we were voted in so obviously the peopleTM want it" and it's almost backfired
And then they got too cocky and decided to announce loads of policies they'd never push otherwise because they have a huge lead which resulted in them losing their lead as they really turned people off
Now they are stuck in the position of both still having to negotiate brexit while also barely having a majority even with a coalition, which is literally the worst possible turnout for them
except I'd much rather vote at my home address (as a very large proportion of students do) which requires registering for a postal vote (luckily for me it's out of term but that's because of Oxford's silly short terms)
Sure it's not that much effort to apply for one but in an already apathetic group of voters it only reduces the turnout further
Congrats we agree it's an overall idiotic thing but it doesn't mean it's,,, not a thing and that it's not exacerbated by the timing of an election increasing inconvenience of voting
And no offence but the lack of care about this issue from adults such as yourself doesn't help the disillusion and lack of faith in the system that leads to voter apathy for a large proportion of the young population
i like how they changed the twitter handle of an official (and verified) account to "factcheckuk" to appear to be an impartial third-party fact checker and tweeted about how boris had won the debate in terms of being factually correct
mine was pretty empty but i did go at like 2pm so I'm guessing most working adults were probably busy
Though considering the very high average age of my constituency (vv old and white) I would've expected to see a fair few of them milling about? idk when old people get up though
i mean my constituency's fucked, we've literally had the same (Conservative) MP since we were refounded in 1997 and in 2017 he had a 35% majority over second place (Labour), but hell I voted anyway
