Dude, this is totally the opposite of what I thought you listened to

You have Cole and Tiller on your chart bro
In The Airplane Over The Sea is one of, if not, the greatest album of all time. It's an incredibly influential fuzz-folk bit of music that really inspired a lot of future artists as well as introduced and reintroduced a ton of musical concepts and ideas. It's like Kanye West's 808s and Heartbreak, in that it influenced a lot of the more emotionally influenced rappers right now like Drake. Not to mention the emotional aspects of the album can appeal to a variety of people of all ages.

the state of mainstream rap and hip hop makes me so sad, i couldn't say one way or another
I was in the gym today and literally heard to worst song in my life. I'm too traumatized to figure out what it was
I hate that I have nothing really to rec..
Big K.R.I.T. maybe?
Don't worry, I'm basically stuck in the 90s with a few classics sprinkled here and there. I do have some more recent singles on playlists, but I haven't purchased an album in well over a decade and don't music that much anymore
I feel you. A lot of hip-hop today is objectively terrible. There is still a lot of good music out there, just takes work to find it sadly.
In post 57, xRECKONERx wrote:really? I feel like we're in a pretty great age of hip hop. Run the Jewels, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Chance the Rapper, Tribe Called Quest resurgence, Vince Staples, Drake, Young Thug aka Jeffrey... like... we're in a golden age.
there's a couple of shitty meme rappers i can't stand but i think the state of hip hop is strong
I only see him really caring for ATCQ's resurgence. I don't think he'll really jive with anyone else there, especially Thug
Also you forgot Future's run and Gucci's resurgence.
In post 66, Bins wrote:I'm definitely forgetting something and some of these really shouldn't be here. Some of my favourite things to listen to rn and some old favourites. Please don't shit on my taste in music like you guys always do. I hate it as well.
Maybe Blood Orange and Foster the People?
How do you have Plastic Beach over S/T and Demon Days?
In post 67, Bins wrote:Also, for a lot of artists I didn't know which album to pick so I just went with the nicer artwork.
The album cover for Watching Movies With the Sound Off easily trumps The Divine Feminine's though.
roughly, old and newer stuff. That top 4 is probably my real top 4 though, give or take.
kids/stillmatic/ a few others should be second tier classics, not enough squares
I don't even listen to Eminem nowadays but you gotta pay homage n whatnot. I also play wayy less old school hip hop on the regular not cause I dislike it I just bump different things. my feelings change and stuff
I see you Zulfy/Uzi/inte/Bins
FUCK. A KID NAMED CUDI SHOULD BE ON SECOND TIER. IMAGINE IT THERE.
Man I can think of only of 3 or 4 hip-hop albums I hold as in high esteem as Illmatic. Absolutely perfect, all the way through. Perfect length. Perfect flow between tracks. Nas is simply at his best on it.
excuse me
that benn jordan album is top tier ambient

I enjoy listening to literally any genre but I tend to stick with my bipolar disorder and listen to things that are either really quiet and ambient, or really loud and glitchy
Ah I see.
My mind is just blown right now man. I thought you were a dusthead after we had that discussion about Carti.
In post 99, Cheetory6 wrote:Why you gotta hate people who make weird music? D:
And I'll be honest, I don't hear that comparison at all lol
For what it's worth, I've listened to most of Animal Collective through having a close friend. To keep it short, I think they're one of the most overrated bands of all time. I don't find any of their songs particularly memorable and I don't think there is any ingenuity in regards to composition or strictly from a recording perspective. I would not care to be a fly on the wall for any of their recording sessions, I pretty much know exactly how they make each "masterpiece".
As for Cloud Nothings, how can you not hear it? Dylan Baldi literally worships Steve Albini who helped produced Surfer Rosa
How do you have Plastic Beach over S/T and Demon Days?
I'll check out Blood Orange and I fuck with Foster the People.
Literally all Gorillaz albums are amazing, Plastic Beach just has special significance to me.
I heard they're about to announce a new album
I have very conflicting opinions on Gorillaz discography after Demon Days. Plastic Beach just isn't as consistently good as self-titled and Demon Days. The last third of the album (Pirate Jets comes to mind) just doesn't carry the pace and quality set by the opening of the album. That said, Empire Ants is one of my favorite Gorillaz songs.

I kept it to 25 and am wholly unsatisfied with this exercise. I think i need 3 seperate list of 25. Whatever. tell me my taste sucks and make fun of fetty wap being literally my favorite album of 2015.
Holy shit My Name is My Name! That album was underrated severely.
Push has been so consistent since Pharrell signed him. Feels like he's had the bar game on lock forever though.

In post 122, PJ. wrote:Idk man...they just are boring to me. It's like the opposite of Drake. Gorillaz find something they like and they like make a song with that person and it sounds pretty similar to what they were doing before the song was title Blah - Gorillaz ft whoever. Where Drake finds something he likes, does his version of it, and then it's like boom Drake does dancehall now, or whatever.
Pusha T is the most underrated rapper of all time. If you count his stuff with Clipse, his discography will stand up to anyone. Period.
Hell Hath No Fury, Lord Willin', My Name is My Name, Darkest Before Dawn is supposedly B sides and was absolute fire.
Edit: @Binz, yeah, it's just my opinion. Feel free to like them. I just have never understood the hype.
I feel that the only guy not in The Conversation that should be in that conversation, is Pusha, which by default makes him most underrated.
Big Pun? Black Thought? GZA? Jean Grae? Royce da 5'9?
That's just to start to be honest, like I don't even listen to any of the above but Push isn't that slept on.
Big Pun is consistently put in the conversation.
Also, just saying, but if you google best rappers of all time; Big Pun, Black Thought, and GZA are all mentioned. Royce not close to the conversation, I don't know Jean Grae.
I never hear anyone talking about them to be honest, especially GZA.
I think you're confusing underrated with under appreciated.
You were basically telling me that his discography is just as good as Biggie's, Nas', Rakim's, etc.
It is.
the is that you think Nas and Biggie are still great after rap has evolved for 20 years after their best album was released.
It's like saying Oscar Robinson is the best basketball player of all time when he was really just the first guy to reach what we know consider basic basketball competency.
Now I know I'm being trolled
If we're being real, the only hip-hop albums from this decade that are touching Illmatic and Ready to Die are the ones in Kendrick's discography, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, The Life of Pablo, and Yeezus.

James Blake is dope. I should probably re-listen to overgrown or give the colour in anything a first listen....
Blake won't ever top his debut but I still have so much love for The Colour in Anything. It's his most soulful work to date. His vocals have always been wonderful and he is so fragile when he hits the falsetto. There is so much emotion in his voice, and his lyrics are always simple and ambiguous so you get to interpret this beauty yourself.
yeezus - was pretty good. best parts are samples. lyrics are kinda shit.
olivia tremor control - good interesting band. foliage is just really weird and really nice, and dusk at cubist castle feels like a great ol psych rock record.
animal collective - i listened to stg, stv, sung tongs, strawberry jam, and feels. strawberry jam was my favorite, but i just cant really get into this band sorry
Shit lyrics on Yeezus? Were you asleep through Black Skinhead, New Slaves, I Am a God, Hold My Liquor, and Blood on the Leaves?
You have Cole on your chart. Dude has been trying to recreate The College Dropout his whole career. You can't talk about MBTDF or any other Kanye album.
In post 174, PJ. wrote:MBDTF is one of the best albums ever made, sorry that you have bad taste.
I do think Yeezus isn't as great as a lot of people make it out to be.
Man Yeezus is a classic. The whole album and era influenced a ton of mainstream artists to go for more bold and avant-grade production in recent years. I guarantee you To Pimp A Butterfly wouldn't have been as weird and ambitious production wise without Yeezus.

i didn't realize these charts are objective truths of the greats and not what you like to listen to lol
this kind of circlejerk pretentious vitriol for such a middle of the pack album kills me lmao
They aren't but your opinion is literally invalid due to having Cole

? i like bro rap i mean i recognize it aint gonna be moving the genre or anyones lives
my typical jam shit is migos.
That's more like it. Culture is an AOTY candidate.
In post 203, inte wrote:the point is i'd still rather seriously listen again to yeezus, pablo, or college dropout before i listen to mbdtf with the exclusion of runaway (:)). i rly don't think its better than any of those
I mean it's cool, like I don't care at the end of the day. It is just rare to find someone who isn't an old head that says MBTDF objectively isn't his best album.
Still though, no love for Dark Fantasy, Gorgeous, Power, Devil in a New Dress, Hell of a Life, or Blame Game?
It might end up being my favorite album by him when it's all said and done. I love the sense of maturity and emotion displayed that goes well with how he switched things up again to show he wasn't just an old dog who couldn't learn those new tricks. I wanted him to explore the synthy side to him while not sticking with the same sound, and that's exactly what we got. The album feels serious while being playful at times. My favorite stretch of the album is the final four songs as those are probably his strongest consecutive songs!
