Yes. Democracy, has, indeed, failed in its job. That is because democracy is not a perfect system.
However, I do not see any superior option to democracy.

There are worse things than murder. In self-defence it is ok like if it is do or die.

First off, you all can have your free will.

But do humans have free will in the first place? And if they do, to what degree? I mean many of our decisions are influenced by education (formal and informal), opportunities, past experiences, personal beliefs, etc. So while theoretically a person has a multitude of choices when facing a decision, taking everything into consideration, he/she is way more limited in his/her choices.
This is if you don't believe in the idea that given the exact same circumstances (including internal ones) a person will always make the same decision- which would mean there is no "free will".

They do have choices, they just choose a certain option. Just cause an action is predictable doesn't make it not free.

Do governments of wealthier/more developed nations have a responsibility to give foreign aid to poorer/less developed countries when the money could be spent to improve people's lives domestically? Do periods of economic downturn affect this?
