why aren't i pocketing boon?In post 1498, Fro99er wrote:RB I'm pretty sure Boon has you pocketed
you've gone back and forth on me a few times this game and i'm assuming you're townreading me since you unvoted. i can guess more, but i wanna hear you explain it-

tbh, i just finished a game with boon as scum where i gut-read him scum but *mechanics* happened and oh my god am i so fucking cbf with mechanics in mafia games. i gutread him as scum pretty much all game
i don't gutread him scum here
i mean if he's deliberately manipulating meta to trick me, that's possible but right now he's sheeping me and not the other way around - if he's voting with me, i don't necessarily see a problem.
also if you saw the wagon forming in a gross af way, couldn't boon also see it? i saw it too, i thought it was yuck rofl - and boon brought that up before either of us did. so if he IS pocketing, he's doing a really good job of also coming up with his own original observations at the same time. i think he could be scum, and i see your reasoning - but i just doubt it based on the fact that it would mean:
1. im wrong aboout my gutread
2. he's changed his meta deliberately to trick me
3. he's scum managing to express cogent thoughts that i've also thought at points, before i did (meaning he isn't copying me really)
4. he's sheeping my votes (which means it becomes super suspicious if he changes and turns on me)
there's a lot of things that have to go wrong for you to be right, which makes me feel like there's more chance he's flipping town than scum - because i'd expect that one of these 4 things would be missing if he was. you feel me?-

trolls + fakes guilties + generally just hasn't been scumhunting or even looking for town either, just has a lynchpool of 3 ppl that's like fuck me do something
there's slots that are VLA not doing stuff, then there's slots that aren't VLA, pretending to stuff, but not actually doing stuff
the latter are the slots i'm likely to scumread you see-

if you or lalight are not options, then yes
this is the same as i've been saying for a while now, so...why are you even asking this lmao-

or i don't wanna lynch my townreads?In post 1553, Srceenplay wrote:IAWS is a teammate.
It would look strange for him to make the statements RB made but coming from someone else.....
Basically that was unneeded by RB to say it. I have a strong gut scum read on RB.
i know this must seem like a new and mysterious way of playing mafia on this website where town players usually just fucking lurk or do nothing or wait to get a guilty and barely try in the daygame, but actually it's good for townplayers to try to impact the way the daygame progresses because *SHOCK HORROR* that's the best way to prevent mafia from doing it instead
if i disagree with the direction of the game, i will try to change it. as should all town players-

gonna go with the idea that IAWS is probably town
I just feel like any rational townie would not read IAWS as hard town refusing any pressure on him. It's stupid. In post 936, rb wrote:So many people just don't want us to scumread IAWS hey?
Que sera?
He was about to get ultra fucking wagoned by like 5+ people. He didn't just have "any" pressure, he was the go-to lynch for today if i said nothing. That's bad.
i have no problem with and never stop players from pressuring each other, my issue is that the pressure ON IAWS was basically unwarranted/exaggerated and more people were scumreading or pushing him with more fervor than i would reasonably expect 5+ town players to do all at once, based on the content he'd actually put out
the more you deliberately batardize the context of things that happen in the game, the worse this shit gets. If you're town, unvote me and if you don't wanna lynch screenplay - explain why because you misrepping and spinning all sorts of ways to scumread me for what amounts to nothing is just screaming chainsaw right now-

I was against the first 3 town lynches. Lol.
He didn't replace out of every game. I was in like 3 or 4 games with him.-

Cross-bussing was the right play to make because we were both heavily townread by the town. It makes it hard to believe that neither of us are dying and it's the kind of thing that gets extra townpoints in the end-game (and would be a big part of why you eventually won).In post 2605, LaLight wrote:I've made quite a lot of work hardbussing rb and stuff, and I really don't think my play was any good
I think your play was fine - you got townread heavily by some people, you bussed me early on and you also used the scumchat with your buddies to make sure you were all on the same page and working well as a team.
We can always play better but you weren't bad yo!-

Thank, man. I really appreciate that. I have noticed somethings are just sorta starting to click for me. It is all that hard work I have done to work on the basics is what I attribute it to. Golden rule being don't make up BS reads (even as Scum) and look for Scum hunting. I was a pretty throw away player when I first started, I will admit that. Who the fuck gets mod killed in their first two games and ends up being a decent player? God I feel like such a special snowflake right now, its embarrassing. My game has been pretty on point lately, but my reads this game were pretty horrendous. I guess it really is true that the longer I am alive in the game, the more dangerous player I become. In post 2705, rb wrote:You got fearkilled LQ - you've gotten damn good in the last year or so, much different to what I remember.
BTW, feel good to have a player nomed for an award give me praise. Reflection of this is that your game isn't too bad either. You've escalated pretty quickly.
Yeah you used to be really haphazard but it looks like you've crystallised your thinking patterns into something more systematic.-

Maybe towns play bad because they actually expect to have 3-4 powerful power roles and no one knows how to play the fucking day-game as town anymore? In post 2707, mhsmith0 wrote:
People keep saying this, and scum keep winning. It's wierd. In post 2616, KidAmn wrote:I honestly feel like this setup was somewhat townsided right up until roles were assigned.
Like if we run this idea parallel to the idea of spamposters - if you reduce the importance of the day game, people will take the day game less seriously.
PR's are a band-aid fix, when you get to the point that you're putting in 3+ powerful PR's into setups by default and people keep losing, the problem isn't that towns don't have enough power. On 2+2 forums the following setup has a 49% town winrate over more than 150 games:
1 cop
9 vanilla town
3 goons
On mafiascum, this setup would be considered Not Fair™ because of the Inherent Scum Advantage™
The reason towns are shit on mafiascum is because towns are shit. The sooner people like yourself and Mastina (<3 you but seriously stop) stop talking about Inherent Scum Advantage™ and constantly acting as if the reason games need morecowbelltown power, the sooner town players start taking actual responsibility for their votes, their words and their play.-

I know how the setup works, the point was the one you made next
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^mhsmith0 wrote:Still, it's a lot less town power than you see in a lot of mini normals
Like it's not even a question that towns here are overpowered.
It's also not a question that the day game here is absolutely shit.
I don't think it's a strictly causal relationship, but I absolutely believe that a combination of: constantly giving towns more power than needed and constantly insisting that there's an Inherent Scum Advantage™ and then balancing games around these two things, has a HUGE effect on how the 'sitemeta' eventually shifts to one that is less caring about daygame and doesn't use it effectively.
It's a no-brainer and I actually wanted to start modding games and slowly getting involved in changing it but the requirements to start modding etc. are 2restrictive4me. I'd love to run a whole plethora of games with that exact setup of
1 cop
9 vanilla
3 goons
no daytalk
And just see how much I could improve site-meta just by having people actively participate in games like this regularly. It was also an idea I had of helping out Realeo with establishing accurate ELO ratings - by standardising the format to something balanced like this and then using the results from it to judge ELO (this is a secondary idea, not primary).-
