if this is a general question i've played a couple of campaigns that were meant to be larger homebrewn campaigns but only lasted for 1-3 sessions tops. i also dm'd a similar length campaign. i've played other systems (i've been in 1 long-lasting AD&D group and I'm in the newbie 3.5 group with ether and firebringer) too though so I could probably help out the newer players (though ether will definitely be better than me for that )

the characters i like to play are usually kind of simple, my favorites are a half-orc inquisitor (she could also roll as a reach cleric), a human wizard who focuses on necromancy (the dead body kind not the sickness one) and conjuration, an arcane trickster, and an alchemist. dont know how much more brainstorming you want atm but these characters already have fleshed out backstories/personalities, i would just have to know how to roll them. i'm also more than happy to adapt to the party's needs and roll new characters

I don't have a preference for what books we use tbh. I can work with some sort of character no matter how simple or complex we go

regardless of what caledf rules though i'll constantly be asking because i want to plan my character in advance. introducing source material early like we did in the 3.5 group can trip me up if i don't consider it as a possibility

also charles, check out myth-weavers for character sheets, it's free and has a lot of different systems. I happen to really like the experimental sheet for Pathfinder, but the old one works fine too.

Umm there's actually no huge cats in the game so that plan is ruined unless I can shapeshift into a giant modified tiger variant

druids in PF generally have to specialize in either casting or melee to be effective (unlike 3.5 where they can do both well) so this is the melee build

my guess would be, if you're looking to fill a hole, to take either cleric or wizard. summoner might be a bit lacking for a primary caster and i will not have the spell slots to take that role. but i think we're set in terms of basics (we have two frontliners, a skill monkey, an eidolon, and a 3/4 caster? and if ether plays a healer)

I might take summoner cause then I can summon spiders since a druid/spider would be more strength and my char is ratfolk which doesn't go for strength.

if you want to summon spiders you could go for a conjuration-focused wizard and summon them! they come into the spell list at level 3 and with higher level summon spells you could summon a giant horde of spiders which would make a really good wall for the party

wizard gets a better spell list and is considered one of the strongest classes in the game, too

i'd definitely consider it

But can they turn into a spider?

starting at level 5, yes, you can take Beast Shape I and turn into any small or medium monster

and at higher levels you could turn into an even larger (or smaller!) spider

i'm not sure if actually turning into a spider is like worth building for but i can see the merits into turning into a little spider to scout areas (though i'll likely wind up being the better scout at higher levels, you might need to crawl through a small hole at one point of the game or something)

hey anna if ur attatched to ratfolk i'd definitely go wizard/witch to use that awesome +2 INT

witch gets vermin shape earlier (level 5 instead of 7) but they have worse spells over all. going with a conjurer (wizard specializing in conjuration) might be your best bet for becoming One with the Spiders since ratfolk get -2 to STR which makes most of the Become a Spider and Fight concept harder to work in (but like i mentioned earlier i think there are situations where becoming a smaller spider could come in handy)

alternatively you could go with a cleric that worships spiders but i didnt recommend that since charles is going with a cleric and i dont think they get vermin shape

oh and you can probably get a spider familiar too ^_^
