Ok. This isn't (in its own way) a mafia game.

The theme is 'Reverse Mafia' The first post is the ending post, and everything works backwords. You lose if you can't follow the theme good enough or you prevent others from following. The mafia / town side don't count. You work in teams of 3 (In a 12 player game). Eg. One team has 2 townies and a Godfather. Another team has a cop, a mafia goon and a vanilla. etc. The team with the most points (counting for REALLY good posts) is the winner.
Also, there will be purpose replacements and there will be no ingame chat about 'reverse mafia' and will work just like a normal game. This will be quite fun when looked at with newest post first.

Any questions welcome

Well, maybe you will have to change the name of the game. I think there is already a Reverse Mafia.

But I'm not understanding the game mechanic very well... What similarties would that game have with a normal mafia game?

I don't think Nekka's idea will work. The Mish-Mash/GD thread is funny as hell, but for a game, it would just be a headache, or players would disregard it (like they often do theme/complexities that interfere with playing the game).

undo: Crusades would be interesting, but mainly because you'd have enough factions that who the scum was would be suspect (Muslims? Byzantines? Christians? The Papacy?). WWI/II could be interesting, but I'm not sure how you'd handle broken massclaims, for example...

Phoebus did a Norse Gods game I believe, but it could certainly be done again. Again, massclaim is a danger.
Retired as of October 2014.

What are broken massclaims? Can you explain how they can interfere with the good functioning of the game? Thank you

a broken mass claim is when the town massclaiming causes the setup to be broken. I.E. many townies are confirmed, or scum are outed, etc.

I see. It certainly can be a problem for theme games. Is there any way to avoid it?

Yes!

Post the townie role PM in the early posts, so that no flavr from it will confirm a townie.

Also, mix up the roles, don't make bad guys bad and good guys good, mix it up. OR give the baddies fakeclaims.

Yes, there are several.

First, you want to make sure that either the flavor of the roles does not cause townies to be confirmed/mafia members to be outed. A good way to do this is to go at the theme from an unexpected direction. For instance, in a star wars theme'd game I ran, the scum were all new star wars characters, whereas the town was old star wars characters, instead of the typical republic/empire dichotomy one would expect.

Second, you want to give the scum players fake claims. These are role names which are guarenteed to not be in the game, so the scum do not have to claim their real role names.

Third, you want to post the vanilla townie PM, with the standard town win condition on the front page. This will stop players from being able to be confirmed by vanilla role flavor or win condition.

Lastly, you want to make sure that your setup is unpredictable. This will give the scum a lot of ground to work their fake claims in.

:D

Thank you very much for your help my friends. Would you like to share your views about the themes I am thinking to use (Medieval Jerusalem, WWI, WWII, Norse Mythology, and a new one I've come up with recently, The Plagues of Egypt) in a mini game? I'd really appreciate your opinions.

I can't. To me the mark of a good theme game is not "O WOWZERS THIS ONE IS BASED ON FUTURAMA!" its "Hey, this introduces something that really changes the game for me." If I wanted to play cop+doc v. GF and MafRB, I'd play a mini normal.

I see.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid to use different game mechanics as I have little idea of the outcome. And I know that an unbalanced/bad-thought game is very annoying for players.

I am waiting for someone to help me and review the setups, but apparently the 'Set-up Review Thread' is not much popular.

Thats cool, many people just like to do it because its got a good theme. But I really can't say that any one motif is better than another

Would you accept them, CES? I must warn you, though, they are probably not as interesting as you might be thinking.

Sure. Although I wonder why you'd make a setup you think isn't interesting.

In an effort to redefine the meta, I came up with the idea of Reality Mafia. Basically, it's like a more realistic take on the mafia. Doctors can't prevent kills, cops are (usually) too dumb to figure anything out, the mafia aren't lynched but rather thrown into jail (from which they can escape) or maybe given the death penalty, etc etc. Some roles could include:

*Witness. They see the crimes in action. They could have a percentage chance of seeing who did the killing, and if they are seen - possibly getting killed themselves. Not sure how it could work, though. Could be by targeting or simply being in the right (or wrong) place at the right (or wrong) time.

*Accountant. Similar to day-vig, they could automatically throw a mafioso in jail for not paying their taxes. XD But if attempted on a non-mafioso, they'd probably get fired and become vanilla town.

*New Godfather. Everyone knows who they are, but can't do anything about it (until the goons are out of the way).

*Jail-breaker (goon). Spend the mafia's night action to break a fellow mafioso out of jail.

*Prison Guard. Kind of a Roleblocker for the Jail-breaker. Probably would be non-targeting, so as long as he's alive the Jail-breaker can't free his/her buddies, or would have a very low chance.

*Judge. Give someone the death penalty rather than putting them in jail. If a townie is given the death penalty, would probably get fired and become vanilla town.

*Corrupt Cop. Mafia-aligned cop (pretty useless, but would make for interesting claims imo).

Thoughts?
