On the real though, I had believed in Yachty and he just let me down man. The album is so bad. Despite the few summer bops it has, it's just overall unbearable. It blows my mind how long it is but how uneventful it feels. Feels like he went for a slow nocturnal love song vibe too much and all those are forgettable. This whole album is forgettable besides the singles and like one or two others.
Shame to because Lil Boat was actually pretty great but I knew, the second I finished my first listen, that he wasn't going to be able to ever recreate something like it ever again.
It was like the most perfect tape that someone with his skill level could possibly make.
I recommend giving the new one a chance though. Summer Songs 2 was disappointing to me at the time but it has some of his best songs (idk, yeah, pretty)
I think the worst thing for his career was Mase in 97. when he tries to rap hard like that, I mean I don't mind it but if someone calls it trash I can't really argue. His bars are not his strength. I feel like he cares way too much about being seen as a good rapper these days. All that talking shit about Tupac and Biggie, its made him feel like he needs to prove his rapping ability. These "hard" rap bangers are not his strength and there are a bunch of them on teenage emotions (x men, DN freestyle etc.) He needs to stick to what he's strong at, which is the melodic trap songs that got him where he is.
I agree that nothing will top Lil Boat, its one of my favorite albums of all time. It definitely might have been a fluke but it is so great that I think he still has potential.
this new one has a lot of good tracks, especially the second half.
That an old track right? Only been bumping Watch My Back since I think that style suits him more. Poker Face especially. That track usually gets 3 repeats minimum for me when it comes on
I've never listened to it. I'm going by hearsay. I listened to Shadow of Doubt and Pinata, but only heard good things about ESGN and that everything else was skippable.
