{Episode 08 Challenge}

Image

Mathemendurance

A frequent catchphrase of Mr. Johnny Bananas is "Earn your stripes". There comes a time for every player where he or she can no longer rely on the strength of their teammates, and must prove their own strength to stick around.

Everyone's going to love this twist today. Everyone currently holding a Safety Token that is. That's because everyone holding the Safety Token is safe! Everyone else is at risk where SIX players will enter the Fortress tonight. That's right, two players from
EACH
team will go into the Fortress to face off against each other where one player from each team will be eliminated. Three players are going home tonight, one from each team's match-up. The only way to prevent going into the Fortress is by doing well in this individual challenge. This is
not
a team challenge, each individual will complete this challenge to earn immunity from the Fortress. The two lowest scorers from each team will find themselves at the Fortress. The winners in the Fortress will not only return holding a Safety Token, they can mutiny to whichever of the other two teams that they wish, with the only limitation being that a team can not grow to a size of more than five players due to mutineers. More details will be revealed when the Fortress is posted.

Safety Token holders do not have to compete, but if they wish to, they can. If a Safety Token holder places outside of the bottom two, he or she can elect to give his or her token to someone on the team who places in the bottom two in order to save them. The player with the third-worst score will then enter the Fortress. Also, Purple team, because you only have three players, you will not compete in this challenge as anyone without the safety token will automatically go to the Fortress.

This challenge is a mix of endurance and mathematics. Players who can calculate equations quickly and for a long period of time will find themselves safe from this fortress. The key to success is being able to identify equations on the grid every minute and posting the equation and its answer in your thread. Once you are ready, you will be given a 5x5 grid full of numerals and mathematical symbols. During this challenge, you will create equations by using a maximum of three numerals and two mathematical symbols and then provide the answer to the equation. Once you view the grid, you will be given 1 minute to view the grid, and by the end of the minute you must post an equation and the answer to the equation. Within every minute window, you must post a new equation and its answer. This means that during every minute timestamp in your private topic, one post must be made. Each time you post a new equation, the answer must be greater in number than the previous number. You want to start with low equations at the beginning. You may start with equations with an answer of a negative number. This will continue until you either make a mistake or you fail to post an equation within the minute window. The players who go the longest will find themselves safe. But the players who fail to go the distance will find themselves going to the Fortress. The two players who have the shortest final time - measured by minutes will automatically go to the Fortress where they will fight against their teammate in a fight for survival. The tiebreak will be for the player who has the smallest range of numbers successfully used as an answer (ie: first answer is -10 and final answer is 89 will lead to a range of 99)

Please do not discuss the challenge grid or your results with other players until after results are posted.

Players have 48 hrs to initiate the endurance challenge.

Notes:
  • Equations will be calculated sign by sign. Order of operations will not qualify here. Therefore, 2-1x8=8. First 2-1 = 1, then 1x8=8.
  • Equations will have a maximum of 3 numerals and 2 symbols.
  • You must travel between adjacent cells when creating formulas, and you can't cross the same cell twice in the same formula.
  • The "/2" symbol is terminal and must be the last symbol used in an equation. It is used to take the number and it will halve that number. Your answer, however, must be a whole number.
  • The "tens" symbol will combine the two numbers on both sides of the symbol and create a two-digit number. Therefore 4 (tens) 5 will become 45. "tens" can only be used to combine two numerals together. If "tens" is used as the second symbol in the equation, it cannot be used to create a 3 digit number. Therefore the equation 2x9(tens)3=183 is invalid. However 1x9(tens)3=93 is a valid equation. Conversely 3(tens)9x1=39 is also valid.
Example:

Code: Select all

1 + 4
- 5 (tens)
2 + 8

In the above 3x3 grid, I could post first: 1-5(tens)8= -48 as my first post. 2-5+4=1 as my second post. 8(tens)5+4=89 as my third post. But if my fourth post were 8+5+4=17, I would fail at that point because 17 is lower than 89. My challenge would then be over and my time tabulated.

No, (1-5) is calculated first to get -4, then (-4(tens)8) to give -48

Do we have to memorize the grid or will it be available for view constantly?

What would be the answer to something like 1 - 8 (tens) 3? I'd assume -73, but...

Results!

First off the
Purple Team
. No player had to attempt the challenge, as whoever holding the Safety Token would be safe, and the other two would enter the Fortress.

Did
kdowns
keep the Safety Token or did he volunteer to go to the Fortress?

Image

Spoiler:
Nope! He keeps it! The Purple Team's Fortress will be:

Image Image
McMenno vs. PrivateI

Next is the
Yellow Team
.
Randy
held the Safety Token and chose to not compete. He is safe. The other four will participate, where two will enter the Fortress.

First off is
Cheery Dog

Image
Spoiler:
He completed 25 minutes!

Next is
Racefan

Image
Spoiler:
He completed 80 minutes!

Next is
TWIE

Image
Spoiler:
He completed 64 minutes! This means that
Cheery Dog
will be going into the Fortress.

Finally it's
Xalxe

Image
Spoiler:
He completed 10 minutes! This means that the Fortress will be:
Cheery Dog
vs.
Xalxe

The
Blue Team
has
Flameaxe
holding onto the Safety Token post-mutiny and chose to not compete in the challenge. This means that the other five players will compete to determine which two will enter the Fortress.

First is
Save the Dragons

Image
Spoiler:
He completed 3 minutes!

Next is
pickemgenius

Image
Spoiler:
He completed 0 minutes...first post was incorrect. This looks like a Fortress entrant...

Next is
D3f3nd3rd

Image
Spoiler:
He completed 50 minutes! Safe from the Fortress

Next is
JDGA

Image
Spoiler:
She completed 16 minutes! And she was stopped at that point because she had already beaten the threshold.

Finally it's
Haschel

Image
Spoiler:
He did not complete any minutes. Therefore the Fortress will be
Haschel
vs.

{Episode 08 Fortress}

Border Patrol

McMenno vs. PrivateI

This will be the most important Fortress yet, as the number of players in the game will soon be cut down from 14 to 11. The six of you competing here were the worst on your team in this episode's challenge, so it's time to see who wins their place in the game. You'll face off against the other loser from your team, and the winner of each matchup will have the opportunity to mutiny to
any team*
.

*Although you are primarily competing against your fellow teammate, you will also somewhat be competing against everyone else. Once the winners of each of the three matchups are determined, each winner will be ranked by highest number of plurality districts and then time completed. The top-ranked winner of a matchup will be allowed to choose to which team they would like to join - including their previous team. Next, the second-ranked winner of a matchup will be allowed to choose to which team they would like to join. Finally, the third-ranked winner of a matchup will be offered the same choice. Please remember that as stated during the challenge, during this selection process, no team may gain more than 5 players at the end of the selection process. Additionally, if two or more people holding a Safety Token end up on the same team at the end of the selection process, then the lower-ranked players must relinquish their Safety Token and assign it to a member of the other tribe (more than likely their old tribe).

This Fortress is
semi-live.
This will also require image editing software and an image uploading website as well. When you are ready to begin, you will be given a map containing 40 red dots, 40 yellow dots, and 40 blue dots. You must draw lines segmenting the population of dots into 12 districts of 10 dots each. Your goal is to make it so there is a plurality of red dots in as many districts as possible in the fastest amount of time. You may split a dot between two districts, with that dot counting as .5 dots in each district, but you cannot split more than 2 ways. If there is a tie between multiple colors for the plurality in a district, that doesn't count as a win for either color. If you draw a district to contain more or less than exactly 10 dots, you will have one controlled district taken away from your score for each improperly drawn district.
Example wrote:The population seen below is fairly evenly spread out.

Image

However, in both drawings below, the district lines have been drawn so there are 3 dots in each district, and one color has a majority in 3 out of 4 districts.

Image

Image
Once you are confident with your submission, post it to stop your time. The winner in each matchup will be the player who successfully gave the Red dots a plurality in the highest number of districts, with time acting as a tiebreaker. The loser of each matchup will be eliminated from the game. You have
24 hours
to complete this challenge.

Unfortunately, due to V/LAs, two of the Fortress competitors were unable to complete this Fortress, and have been eliminated. We regretfully must say goodbye, but we hope to see them again in future games.

Image Image

Let's look at everyone else's scores.

Image

Cheery
successfully secured 10 districts for Red in an astounding time of
5 minutes!

Image

McMenno
also secured 10 districts in a time of
10 minutes.

Image

Haschel
secured 10 districts, but due to 4 districts having more or less than 10 dots, his score is reduced to 6. Can PEG do better?

Image

PEG
successfully secures 10 districts for Red, winning the Fortress. Haschel has been eliminated.

And now, the very important question: has anyone chosen to mutiny?

Spoiler:
Nope! Everyone is staying strong with their current teams, and the Fortress winners all receive Safety Tokens. The next challenge will begin tomorrow.

{Episode 09 Challenge}

Image

Biohazard

For today's team challenge, we'll be playing a high stakes game of musical chairs! We will all be travelling to a chemical wasteland where there are only a few safe houses available with fresh oxygen! During every round, players will look at the map and determine which pathway to safety they would like to take. If a player is the first one to encounter a safe house, signified by a biohazard symbol, they will occupy it and breathe in all the beautiful organic oxygen that is inside! If a player encounters a safe house, but someone else is already there, they will continue on their chosen pathway until they find an empty safe house or all safe houses are taken. At the end of each round, 2-3 players will find themselves without a safe house and will be deteriorate in the chemical biohazardous wasteland. Then we do it all over again! Each round will remove 2-3 players until only one team remains. So if you have fewer players, you don't need to find as many safe houses. Also players from the same team are not allowed to travel along a specific pathway simultaneously, and a player must wait until their teammate finishes before they may step onto a pathway. To makes this even more difficult, players are only granted a limited amount of energy for this entire challenge to amble about. The longer you walk to find a safe house, or the faster you run to a fast house, the more energy you expend. As such, it will be important for players to save enough energy for the final round, because if a player does not have enough energy to make it to a safehouse, the other players will likely beat them for the final spots.

Each player will begin with 300HP at the beginning of this challenge. All players in a round will begin at the star. The stopping points in the map are the letters on the map. Many stopping points are also safe houses, and are signified by the biohazard symbol. Players may then travel to an adjacent stopping point by travelling along a pathway that connects between two spots. Each line on a map will have an energy number expenditure attached to it. To walk along the line, players must agree to spend that amount of energy to travel along the pathway. Additionally, each player may choose to travel by jogging or running along the line. This will allow the player to travel quicker along the line, but will also expend more energy. Jogging means that you will double the amount of energy required to travel along the line. Running means that you will triple the amount of energy required to travel along the line. Each player will give a pathway solution in which they will determine which safe houses to check and in which order. Players may only travel between stopping points by using the given pathways between the points just like travelling along a normal map.

After all submissions have been submitted, orders will be processed along a timeline with 1 energy being spent for each "game minute", as such, those travelling quickly will move over more distance quickly (30 seconds per 1 unit energy for jogging. 20 seconds per 1 unit energy for running). If two players arrive at a safe house at the exact time, then neither will occupy the safe house and will move onto the next move in their sequence. Failure to submit means that a player will automatically be without safe house and will be eliminated that round. Players may also enter "pauses" into their sequence if desired, but must denote how long a pause (in increments of 10 seconds). Players may be forced to automatically pause as well if a team members is currently on their desired pathway and has not finished the pathway. If after processing an order, a player has not reached a safe house, then they will be eliminated. As such, it is important that players attempt to include all safe houses within the order to ensure safety. Once a player has reached a safe house, the remainder of their order will be ignored and will not be required to expend any further energy for that round.

Teams are also acting on a non-compete clause, because team members should be polite and support each other. Also, too many egos can't be in the same spot. As such, no two players from the same team can travel along the same segment at the same time. While a player is moving along a travel segment, a teammate cannot step onto the segment until the first player steps off the segment. If there's a team member already on the segment you would like to travel along, you will not move at all until your teammate has finished. If two players on the same team land at a space at the same time and wish to begin travelling along the same pathway at the same time, the order of operations is as follows:
  • If a player does not have enough energy to move along the pathway, that player will remain and allow their teammate to go first.
  • The player moving fastest (run vs jog vs walk) will go first along that pathway.
  • If all else equal, the player to move first will be randomized.
Each round will take place over 24 hours and this will continue until only one team remains. At the end of round 1, only 8 players will remain. At the end of round 2, only 5 players will remain. At the end of round 3, only 3 players will remain. At the end of round 4, only 1 player will remain. If at any point, only one team remains, the challenge will end and no further maps will be used. If at any time all players remaining lose all energy, all players will each be restocked with an equal, limited amount of energy.

All players still in this challenge may talk with members of any team. However, once a player has been eliminated from a round in this challenge, they may no longer communicate with other players about strategy or coordination.

In the example, safehouses are on A and C. Everyone starts on the star.

Orders:
Abigail - walk B -> run C -> jog B -> walk A
Bronwyn - walk B -> walk A -> walk B -> walk C
Cillian - run D -> jog C -> walk B -> walk A

Processing:
Spoiler:
1:00 - Cillian arrives at D (normally takes 3 minutes, but ran so it took 1/3 the walking time)
4:30 - Cillian arrives at C and takes the safehouse at C (takes 3.5 minutes, because jogging will take 1/2 the walking time)
7:00 - Abigail and Bronwyn arrive at B (walking a pathway of value 7 will take 7 minutes)
8:20 - Abigail arrives at C and comes up empty handed (running a pathway of value 4 takes 1.33 minutes)
10:20 - Abigail arrives at B (jogging a pathway of value 4 takes 2 minutes)
19:00 - Bronwyn arrives at A and takes the safehouse at A (walking a pathway of value 12 takes 12 minutes)
22:20 - Abigail arrives at A and is eliminated (walking a pathway of value 10 takes 12 minutes)

Cillian used 3x3 + 7x2 = 23 energy total used.
Brownyn used 1x7 + 1x12 = 19 energy total used.
Abigail used 1x7 + 3x4 + 2x4 + 1x12 = 39 energy total used.

All three players in this above example are from different teams. For example, if Abigail and Bronwyn were on the same team, then Abigail (randomized to go first) would arrive at B at 7:00 like before, but Bronwyn would wait from 0:00-7:00 at the start and would not be able to travel until Abigail finishes. Bronwyn then would travel from 7:00-14:00 instead to land at B at 14:00.
