Worse Idea Mafia


Unlimited day kills... What could go wrong?

For intricate discussion of the setup, see My original thread. I highly recommend reading through it to understand the setup properly.

For your convenience, the basic outline is:

There are no votes, only day kills. Each player has infinite day kills.

The format to kill is
Kill: X
. X is the name of the player, and must be spelled correctly. No other form of day kill will be counted for townies. When you day kill, I highly, strongly, encourage you to PM me letting me know. A message such as:

"
Kill: X
I PM'd mod"

would be great, so other players know I'll be on to check ASAP.

For each day kill you've made, you must wait an additional 24 hours from the start of each day to day kill in the future. Attempting to day kill before this time period ends will have no effect.
The delay begins and the next day starts when I post, not when the previous day's kill has been made
. Attempts to kill before I post the previous kill's result will be ignored.

The mafia, and the mafia only, can pre-submit a day-kill, before their delay has ended. The day kill will take effect the microsecond their delay is over, allowing them to kill before any townie with the same delay. The format for this is:
Mafia Kill: X
. It will be obvious that their kill is a mafia kill; this method of killing should only be advantageous for the mafia when they are about to win or on a suicide mission.

In addition, since there are no nights, mafia are allowed to communicate at all times.

Automatic Deadlines every day of X, where X is max[the number of players living, the largest delay any living play has + 1]. If no one kills before deadline, a random player with the largest deadline is killed.

Town wins if all mafia are eliminated.

Q&A

Q1:Aren't there massive problems with the Mafia pre-kill? How would we know if they are mafia?
A1:They have to mafia kill in thread -- so it will be painfully obvious that they are mafia.

The Rules


There were cribbed from Adel and edited slightly.

1.
You may
not
PM or IM or otherwise contact any player at anytime about this game, regardless of if you are living or dead. If your role makes an exception to this rule for you, strictly follow the new rule in your role PM.

2.
Once you are dead you can no longer post in-thread.
Not even a "bah." post.
Seriously.

3.
You may vote for exactly one other player at a time during the day. Make your choice in bold letters like
Vote: YYYYYY

4.
To change your vote,
Unvote
in bold letters, or vote for someone else in accordance with
3.
.

5.
Cast votes that do not follow the formatting guideline described in (3.) and (4.) will
not
be counted.

6.
A lynch will occur when more than 50% of the votes are placed upon the same player, or 50% are placed upon
Nolynch
. After the threshold is reached, the lynch/nolynch will occur regardless of any subsequent posting.


7.
"Day" is defined as any time when the thread is unlocked. Living player can post during the day.

8.
"Night" is defined as any time after the first period of Day when the thread is
locked
. Special exceptions may be made if deemed necessary.
The Pregame phase does not count as a period of Night.
So no talkie-talkie mafia players.


9.
The game starts once the thread is unlocked. I will unlock the thread
once everyone has received their role PM
ASAP so chaos ensues. It is not necessary to PM me back or post "/confirm" in the thread: just start playing.

10.
Each period of Day will have a deadline of max[# of players, highest delay +1], There will be
no
extensions. A deadline is a deadline, so
talk
kill while you can. At deadline, a random player with the highest restriction will be killed.

11.
When 48 hours have passed without an individual player posting, I will prod that player if requested to do so by any other player. I will try to prod for inactivity as appropriate, but I appreciate your help with this.

12.
If a prodded player does not open the prodding PM within 72 hours he will be replaced. Until a replacement is found the player facing replacement can still
vote
kill and post. If a player is irreconcilably inactive, I will replace them, with great sadness. You could just kill them y'know.

13.
At deadline, if a player has a majority of the votes being cast (e.g. all votes not on Not Voting) that player will be lynched. Otherwise, no lynch will occur and night will commence.

14.
Each night phase will have a deadline, if a night choice is not submitted before the deadline, no action will be made, or I will choose the action, depending.


15.
Breaking a rule = death for a given value of death. I determine that value.

16.
If you have the ability to edit posts, don't do it in this thread.

17.
If you have any questions please ask me via PM or in-thread as they occur to you. I will be as fair and helpful as I can

18.

Andycyca sneaks up on SirTornado. Suspicious of his use of reason, Andycyca guns his chainsaw. You all stop in your tracks, staring in absolute horror as he raises the rusting, shrieking machine. You gasp together as the whirling blades slice through SirTonado's skull. In a swarm of brain tissue and fluid, SirTornado's head positively explodes over everyone. The blades stop right above his mouth, and you hear a stifled, unintelegible moan; SirTornado's last breath.

Covered in his muck, a brave soul among you gathers his composure, and searches through SirTornado's belongings. He exclaims, "He has a gun that hasn't been shot yet! He must be mafia, right!?"

I respond "No, idiot. Everyone can kill in this game. He was just a townie, trying to find the scum. I suggest you all do so, before it is too late..."

NEW RULE:

I thought of something before you guys did, thankfully...

A town player who attempts to use
Mafia Kill: X
will shoot themselves instantly. Only Mafia can use the ability, no townies can pretend to use it to eliminate themselves.

Mafia Win!


Mike O' Malley, if you realized the deadline rule and didn't do anything about it, major props -- that was optimal mafia strategy here.

Expect lots of posts from Poker. feel bad for him, he really was excited about this game.

I won't be running another again soon, if someone else wants to pick up the torch, go ahead and run with it.

Suggestions & Comments:

Get rid of the "exact vote rule" it was dumb. I just don't change the rules midgame.

I'd suggest also having players post
VERB: x
, and you write a flavorful deathscene with their chosen verb. Like chainsaw, eat, swallow, cause to evaporate with a lazer beam... whatever.

Consider adding 1 mafia, 1 townie, and 2 jester/bombs. They win if they are day-vig'd, but, they kill whomever day-vigs them.

This game suffered like all games would with players who didn't really care about winning. It is fine that almost everyone wanted to play just do day-vig someone -- but that is exactly why this is called "worse idea mafia", even though 3:15 nightless is hugely in town's favor, 3:15 worse idea mafia ended up to be just about even because of idiot townies :).

Andycyca really played well. So did Mike. So did Tar. Who the hell killed tar? that person misplayed badly.

I welcome any/all comments.

In the previous Bad Idea Mafia games, town attempted to impose order, and punish those who daykilled arbitrarily.

Here, no one tried to do that. If no one is interested in playing mafia, the game isn't going to be mafia.
