Nice!
I just picked up like my eighth 3rd place finish. Got caught between the two other remaining survivors and just didn't stand a chance.-

starting to feel better about this. It's definitely one of those games where you kind of have to be happy with how you perform with only a loose connection to your finishing spot. I finished 13th today and it was probably the best I played. Kind of regretting all those games I played before my new PC where I'd crash out as my rating is taking forever to get up.
Still not super fast on looting, which remains a weak point. Frustrating going to like 12 houses and finding zero sights or scopes. I've been playing entirely solo so far. Feel like it'd be a way different game duo or with a squad. For one thing I'm really careful about how much I use vehicles in this game, but I think a duo or squad would offer more possibilities for vehicles.
I very much look forward to first person mode, though I'm getting better at being able to peak people in third..-

Learning how to loot is definitely a thing, but it gets better with practice. It also gets better more quickly as you play with others, because you have to communicate (weapons, mods, extra backpacks & armor) so you become more aware of what you're doing more quickly.
My biggest weakness is spotting movement at a distance. I know it's something I need to work on, but I'm not really sure HOW to improve it.-

Raise your AA and Post Processing to medium/low if lower than that and depending on the frame hit, that sharpens the image at longer range. What uses more FPS but reaaaalllly helps is raising your screen scale. In post 54, Glork wrote:Learning how to loot is definitely a thing, but it gets better with practice. I think my settings are where they need to be (aside from View Distance, maybe -- I've heard some say that higher is better for spotting people at distance, others who say lower is better), it's really more an awareness issue I think. In post 56, wgeurts wrote:

EDIT: Actually now I'm paranoid lol. Gonna post my specs and current in-game settings & let you assess whether I should make changes.-

Occasionally I get a big FPS drop right after I land & start looting, but it goes away pretty quickly. It's been very smooth overall, tbh.-

2 more second places (one duo, one solo) and a third place (duo) in the last ~18 hours. Still haven't had solo chicken dinner...
Every time I finish top 5 but don't win I look back on what I could have done differently/better.
In the duo 2nd place, there was no option really, my teammate got ambushed before the first circle closed and I just outlasted until it came down to me vs a duo. I got one but couldn't shoot the other before he downed me.
The third place duo, I got antsy and took down someone when I could have just waited. Revealed our position and we got taken out.
In the 2nd place solo game, I knew where both other guys were when it was down to 3. Killed one, circled around the other, and simply MISSED MY FIRST TWO SHOTS before he turned around and killed me. I was overall really proud of this performance, 4 kills including two in the top 5. A suppressed UMP with a red dot very nearly took me to victory, I just derped at the final moment. But my movement and vision were great, I did a better job of checking my flanks, and if it weren't for a failure to aim properly I would have had my first solo win.
Definitely some confidence-boosting performances, my rating is steadily climbing and I just feel more comfortable in nearly every phase of the game, I just need to practice more I think.-

nice!
One thing that's definitely been a problem for me is being able to find vehicles. I imagine a lot of it will just come with time knowing where they spawn, but yesterday I found myself in a couple of situations where the circle was way away from me and I couldn't for the life of me find a vehicle to get me there. I actually died out of circle on one of them. It was like... 10 minutes of me running and healing only to die..-

Max medium, it's mostly the post processing that made a difference though so I use low AA and medium PP.In post 57, zoraster wrote:would AA on highest help more or is there a limit?"i agree we should have a rule against wgeurts" -Davsto

View distance renders plants and buildings mostly, not people. I'd have AA on medium/low and PP on medium/low. Also raise screen scale as much as possible without it hitting your fps too much. I've yet to see what effects does.In post 59, Glork wrote:Intel i5-4590 @ 3.3 GHz

Grats, Zor!
I believe effects is for things like fire, smoke, and barrel flashes. Not 100% sure on what it does/doesn't cover though.-

EBWOP:
from an article on PC GamerEffects: This setting relates to things like explosions, among other elements. It might have a more noticeable impact on performance with explosions going off (eg, in a red zone), but for the test scene dropping to very low only improved performance by 1 percent.-

I had a terrible run of games today. At least my August rating can only go up from there, right?
