Scummer D&D for newbies!

A paper is 4 sp.

Is that just one sheet of paper? What about the binding?

if there isnt a ruling should i just calculate the cost based on how many sheets of paper there would be in it

or is there a ruling on generic books? couldnt find anything in the srd

this seems really trivial but

When you roll to hit, you take a penalty to the d20 roll based on the armor check penalty of said shield

probably not useful if you're fighting with a warhammer anyway?

yes

say you have 12 dex (+1 mod), fight with a rapier, and have a tower shield. you'd take -9 on your to-hit roll (1d20-9) since a tower shield is a -10 penalty

i'm shook

also andrius i'm not really sure about marching formation - i'm thinking we go diamond shaped? it's kind of tough though when not everyone has their general characters done but dunn stands in front, Fire and Growlithe handle the flanks, i probably take the back, and the fragile people can be in the middle?

also do you think i should stick to power attack as my feat or should i go for combat reflexes instead? tough choice tbh

as for combat reflexes I took it myself and it's supposedly good with ranged; it's based on dex though so you'd -only- get 1 additional attack of opportunity

yeah that's my conundrum

i'm using a reach weapon too so more AoOs are cool but my character is so stretched thin in trying to be decent at everything idk if i can afford the dex to make it useful

edit: wait shit i dont even have a base attack bonus yet i can't even use power attack LMAO... my next feat comes at level 3 though so

i probably have to finish writing my backstory first - i'm at the part where raia first becomes radicalized after being arrested for speaking out against the corrupt captain of the city guard

i just got to our hotel so i should have a moment to sit down and write in an hour or two

but yeah i'm down for the fight for orc rights

sorry dunn :(

tbh i probably would have focused on self-buffing so if the sheer power of an enlarged raia with divine favor and shield all at once is enough then cool but tactically i feel like healing would not have been useful

plus theres the issue of me spreading out buffs throughout the day, not sure how many encounters there were

btw i replaced power attack with scribe scroll, i figure it has more utility all game while i cant use power attack until level 2 anyway

Actually yeah I guess rolling with a level 1 sorcerer dip (don't do bard that seems dumb) it probably compensates

True strike I think doesn't fail with armor so that could be a nice buff. Cant think of anything else but I Get it now

wait do paladins use wisdom to cast spells...?

Ugh I'm still not done with my backstory and it's late :dead:

Also Dunn ur definitely not going to be here next week? Since if u want me in my backstory that does relieve some pressure in finishing this novella

No ragrets btw if Raia dies early she's my go-to character for rp so having a fleshed out backstory would be good

Hey FG, so how are the campaign hooks working for Dunn's new character and mine? Should we stick to the same ones? idk i was just a bit confused since i figured it would be weird if a bunch of people were employed by the same person were seperated - i'm not sure how we're going to be introduced into the story basically

i did have some ideas as to how Dunn and I would work together and be in the area, but they did require some creative liberties on the hooks (i.e. almost completely ignoring them) but they WOULD work perfectly with my backstory :P. Obviously as the Gm it's your call and I have 0 issue working in one of the campaign hooks of you prefer that.

Just asking now since I'm basically done with my backstory and just have to tie it into the current story. (though figuring out how i'll upload it from my iPad wo wifi is going to be a pain in the ass lmao).

sorry for being so extra \_o_/

this sounds dumb but do i have to buy a copy of Saint Cuthbert and Common Sense? like i'd assume that if i were travelling with another follower of saint cuthbert our church would be providing us with scriptures. i do want to carry a copy but i know it's not required for a cleric.

using the same rule you gave for the journal it'd be ~12 gp based on the wikipedia page for St. Cuthbert which i can afford but with the last purchased i'd be making i'd be left with 1 gp when i was hoping to buy some more survival gear

speaking of said survival gear how much would string cost? (i'm assuming it'd come in things of 50 ft. like rope?)

Spoiler: List of chalk symbols
Image

so since raia has chalk and i have no clue what we're doing i made a piece of parchment with all of the symbols i could think of that you'd need to mark on a wall

basically when/if we send erwin out to scout in a cave or a mine or something he can mark places near traps, treasure, monsters, or places that look ok to sleep (easy to guard, can set up a bell trap, etc) or are empty. not sure if there are other symbols that could be helpful but the nice thing about this is that roll20 lets us draw directly onto the map (not sure how fg rules that but preemptively i can't see an issue)

pardon the fact i cant draw on a mouse though the basic shapes are all you really need to know

ALSO i finally finished my backstory smdh -_______- - sheet should be 100% done now

i still swear that i forgot to purchase something btw

I have no use for leather armor (maybe we can rework it for houndour? for sure it's human sized so we can't just throw it on him sadly), can't see Raia using poison, and I use a sling not a crossbow

also postie i did the research you're doing two weapon fighting right :P - using light weapons work better and you can get the same feat for both weapons

i guess you could use a sickle but i think daggers have better crit too and it's only a 1d4 vs 1d6 difference so \_o_/

fg in a theoretical world where i roll a true neutral wizard who really likes undead am i like not allowed to do like create undead and other negative-channeling stuff without like gradually becoming evil (even if it's on a frequent basis)

usually when i roll this specific character dms have had differing opinions (some were fine calling necromancy in the sense of creating undead a neutral act despite the spell having an evil descriptor, others were like IF YOU CAST IT TOO OFTEN YOU'LL TURN EVIL YOURSELF)

obviously i never got far enough in any of those campaigns where that question actually mattered (never got past level 2 or day 3 of a campaign :) ) but the thought is still out there

if the answer is yeah that's fine for a character in a good-aligned campaign then i have other questions(? maybe one) about this character but i'm rolling my backup characters now to save time \_o_/

ok so i'm still working on my necromancer backup character and i have a question to ask to see if pursuing this concept for this campaign is worth it

what's the likelihood we get to 6th level spells (~level 11+)? because if i cant create intelligent undead basically the rp value of this character concept goes down the drain \_o_/

Quick question, for the purpose of Craft(Alchemy), i have to be a spellcaster to actually use it it seems

To make an item using Craft (alchemy), you must have alchemical equipment and be a spellcaster.

As a ranger, I'd get 0 spells per day at level 4. Do I count as a spellcaster then since I'd have 2 caster levels at that point?

hey fg really quick question again

are we able to use the variant rules in the srd? i'm assuming not but i when i was looking for any possibility of forgoing the animal companion for the ranger (there is not one :( ), I saw that there was a variant rule for wizards that allowed to replace their familiar with an undead minion and i figured that maybe i could go along with my original plan for a wizard character?

http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/class ... erVariants

^first one on this list is the only one i'm interested in

i already know how i'd be able to explain how a 12-15 year old has access to a dead body and why a neutral character would be willing to have an undead minion. only concern so far is how i would hide it when i'm in civilization (can skeletons be disassembled without destroying it? i could carry it in my backpack or something :giggle: )

\_O_/

totally fine with not doing this at all but like raia he's one of the character concepts i already have a fleshed out backstory for (and he's fun to rp as :dead: ) which is why i'm still trying to figure out how i can get this concept out :P

oh cool!

basically in my back-up character queue he'd be third so i suppose it's possible that like we actually get to that point so it's likely we wouldnt have to deal with the below but

i'd be able to get a normal familiar (like a bat or something) and then retcon it to the undead minion without the normal loss of a familiar penalty basically? if so then yeah that's cool

so raia looks like she's getting over encumbered now that i put in ayarte's stuff into her inventory

@fg i wanted to make some purchases, i can buy stuff in between sessions right?

i'll keep you posted but i'm looking at a mule, flour, cooking oil, and powdered milk at the second and i cant find anything on the srd for 3 of those (guess which ones :P ) so \_O_/

flour is probably the most important one as is the mule

also i still need to know how to date my journal @______@

so in canon raia and ayarte arrived on April 9th?

or the 3rd since that's the day after the original party came

Group needs to buy a wagon and maybe a mule. Houndour isnt a beast of burden and should be out with the party so we might actually NEED a mule with the wagon.

Don't sell your junk just yet though, keep it in the wagon once we get it.

After we get a wagon I want to buy some extra stuff that's personal (flour, powdered milk, and cooking oil, vials to hold that) and NOT for business purposes; i want to have backup food reserves that i keep on raia at all times while i leave some rations in the cart.

ok so i bought:

2 belt pouches (normal 2 gp price)
1 lb. powdered milk (1 sp - price is from pathfinder)
1 lb flour (2 cp - price also from pathfinder)
and a flask with 1 pint of olive oil (used the price for lamp oil, 1 sp)

so that's 2 gp 2 sp and 2 cp

changes in character sheet are also reflected

not for bread (mostly)

ok so i'm buying Petunia, our donkey (8 gp) and I'm using Ayarte's backpack, sacks (2), and belt pouches for storage (that's 4). i'm moving the following stuff to her backpack:

  • Ayarte's 100ft of hempen rope (20 lbs)
  • Ayarte's Shovel (8 lbs)
  • Ayarte's rations (10 lbs)
  • Ayarte's whetsone (1 lb)
  • Ayarte's manacles (1 lb)

so she's already at 47 lbs of stuff. if you guys want to give Petunia any more stuff lmk here so i can move it to her part of my character sheet

no, wednesday/thursday/friday are really hard times for me to schedule because thats when i work and now that it's summer the commute is really awkwardly timed so now i dont think i'll get home by 7 (pm obv)

if we want midweek how's tuesday?

((actually i just checked, on fridays if i run really fast to the train station i can get home by 6 lmao so maybe it's doable))
