Merging multiple posts into one

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Tue Aug 08, 2017 4:14 pm

So I am one of those person who are vocal
for
series of posts

However, since the majority are
against
it, as an obedient member of a authoritarian society where ethics are decided by democracy, I am the slave of the majority.

So I start merging posts. I lock my thread, merge them, unlocked them.

This is a sample of my merging posts. Ongoing game so refrain from content, please.

So I drafted some rule as a "101 Realeo guide to not fuck up when multiple posting":

1. This merging should not screw up post numbering from quotes.

But that's it. I only got 1.

Can you help me draft additional "modding standard" so I don't jump into a pesky trap?

There was some questions that I failed to answer:

1. Should I add the time stamp of the post that I merged?
2. When should I merge? Especially in a large game where activity is high? Unlocking/locking thread is quite a hassle, I'm afraid.
3. Do I even need to lock the thread?
4. What else should I consider?

I'm mabye a serious player, but I'm capable of joke. Ok?

If the majority want this and the staff admins and mods decide it should be done, then IMO we need a software modification that automates post merges.
Amid the pressure of great events, a general principle gives no help.

I think this could work if quoting were different

I think it should be automated by software, and the thread should be bumped when the psots get merged so it gets marked unread in people's bookmarks. I don't think you need to do the merging as a mod.

I honestly don't think this is necessary.

if its done there should be a time limit on it IMO. someone might make a post, come back half an hour later with no posts realizing they made a mistake or w/e and not want the posts to merge to show the timestamps

I don't see any reason to do it unless it's four or more posts being merged. Double posts aren't that bad, triple posts are manageable.

I don't like the idea of merging. In fact, I like games where the mod has multiple posts. It makes sifting through them easier.

Don't bother doing it. It's just too risky.

Mods don't generally have the ability to merge posts by default. I asked a list mod for another game and that person said it's not a good idea. It could mess up quotes and other stuff.

I personally would not merge posts and simply warn players who flood with short multiple posts in a row
