MechWarrior Online (Or just general BattleTech)

This forum is specifically for discussing non-Mafia games (board, card, video, we're not picky). Playing such games should happen in the Mish Mash forum, of course.

Hello readers!

Do YOU like robots?
Do you like your robots JUMBO SIZED?
Do you like to SIT INSIDE your robots?
Do you like to GET VIOLENT with your robots?

Then might I direct you toooooooooooo.......... MechWarrior Online, the latest iteration of the MechWarrior franchise, which is itself a sub-franchise of the BattleTech IP.
https://mwomercs.com

Basically, it's a tactical multiplayer FPS, that gets about as close as you can to fully simulating piloting a 100-ton BattleMech. Or anywhere between 30 and 100 tons anyway.
Everything about your mech is fully customizable, weapons, engine, armor, paint job, etc., and you have individual control over just about every system, though if that scares ya, you don't really have to worry about most of it.
The game's free to play, but it does have elements of pay to win. Nothing too bad, and you do get a nice bonus to rewards for your first 25 games, but it will take time to acquire all the mechs and weapons you want without spending money, so be aware of that going in. There are also twelve trial mechs, four from each weight class, available at any given time, and though these aren't customizable, they're good for figuring out your playstyle before you spend your newbie bonus on something you wind up hating.

The actual gameplay is almost entirely in 12v12 matches, though there are a few exceptions, where you work together to complete standard shooter objectives, be that control points, murdering the other team, king of the hill, or several variations of base attacking/defending. Teamwork is massively important, and you will die quickly if you just run off on your own, and death is permanent for each match(mostly), so don't do that.
In addition to standard quick play matchmaking, is the Faction Warfare mode, which... has some balance issues, but is still pretty cool. A huge map of the inhabited area of the galaxy is divided amongst several factions, five representing the Inner Sphere, and five representing the Clans, and players either choose factions to swear allegiance to or do mercenary work for whoever they please, and fight for control of the stars. This is all based in BattleTech lore, which I can get into if there's interest, with the timeframe being advanced every so often, bringing with it new mechs, technology, and political environments.
Also unique to Faction Warfare is the drop deck system. Whereas in quick play you die once and you're done, you can load up to four mechs in a drop deck and when one is destroyed, you pick another to respawn in, until they're all gone. You can also eject at any time if you just wanna switch, but you will sacrifice your current mech in the process.

Does any of this interest you?
