That's what you get with this new age generation and their entitlement issues
Psyche's "hey come discuss" attitude is what gets you 100s of pages of people suggest dumb stuff like "doot" and "salmon! because salmon!" over and over and over. Psyche didn't learn from his predecessor's mistakes.
i considered the alternative but then when the thread was dead for two days i felt sad and lonely

Maybe set up a little code block just like for the replacements queue, so people can just copy paste and fill it in?
I have, but I'd like to first make it worthwhile by creating some code to process it first (it would automate a lot of little things and make it practical to pagetop and whatnot). For now though, we tolerate the status quo for iust a little longer.

It's kinda esoteric, Leanan sidhe=literally faerie lover. Leanan Sidhe were a succubus-ish faerie type as well. Back when i played mafia, i had a faerie theme to most everything, and anyone whose talked to me on skype/discord knows i waaay overshare about my sex life.

Lily=yuri=Japanese lesbian fiction, which plays into both my incessation gayness and weeabooism.

All thanks to fferyllt, who came up with it. But, it's clever and multifaceted which is what I personally love about it.
this has been the best explanation for the lily title nom so far
unfortunately, even here it's admitted that the nomination is rather esoteric
esoteric titles aren't unprecedent; there's Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra, for example
but in the example just referenced, esotericism was part of the point of the title
that connection is what's missing here

as much as i like the poetry of the phrase (the alternative nomination sacrifices that poetry without really fixing the issue), it just doesn't fit with the process
i'm officially
rejecting
it now, but hope you can eventually workshop something else that fits better with the institutional framework

the thread has about as many views as CD's youtube thread, and the video itself has even fewer
there's a chance this is an example of what davsto was talking about when he advocated waiting periods
it might not seem as big in the rearview mirror as it does right now, esp considering the reality that many users have created MS-centered art, including a lot for various Scummies ceremonies
i think ideally EP would have a title that while maybe centering this video he put a lot of work into also
1)
spans other aspects of him salient within the community, one that
2)
differentiates him from other showmen on site while still not sounding awkward or forced
of course, it's not unprecedented for a title nom to be about some one-off happening, but these do have a risk of being weaker than more comprehensive noms
if i could i'd rather see the thread recognized with some kind of Scummie for GD content; oh well

Anyway, if you insist on this version of the title anyway,
wait 5 days and then get me 3 more nths from new people.
I'll approve it despite my objections.

i like my titles a little more..."broad in meaning" than that
like maybe we can have one that references to parody but also captures something about his persona here
titles about specific happenings aren't unheard of, but the ones i know and like best at least gesture more broadly anyway

The most important thing seems to be to make a script that tracks nomination process and regularly posts votecount-like updates in the thread for my and others' benefit. Once I have that, I think I can make a transition to a new thread regime where shitposting is slightly more curtailed.

Later, I'll finally work on that Title Suggestion bot I've always wanted. It'll only suggest a certain kind of title (puns) but it'll hopefully be useful for brainstorming, and the tool can be expanded later anyway. I think in the process (or instead!) I can just write a guide to doing what I'd be programming the bot to do, but who knows.

ehhh
but more importantly there are a lot of different sources from which you can derive hero allusions
for example, batman or whatever accountant was previously going for
the one you settle on needs to be apt, or it'll instead be arbitrary

I don't think I'll be a stickler. I'll
approve
Alisae's title on the grounds of its pithy style and broad support. Let's see if he accepts it. No more "they're cheerful" justifications for title noms, though. That's apparently not very special.

I'll experiment to see if a title that long is remotely ok but it's probably not.

My memories of it aren't fond either and that'll weigh on things, but on the other hand maybe a lot of people like it. People can go on nomming titles around it, but please don't do it if you don't actually admire the trait you're nthing him over.

I'll probably also increase the nth requirement from 5 depending on how good/bad the final nom is. Honestly don't like either of the ones in play rn.

I worry I'd end up regretting this title like I regret Accountant's title. The key thing to keep in mind when you nom and nth titles like these is that you shouldn't consider only if it
fits
the person but also if you
value
the referred aspect of the person, at least being entertained by it. I want to be more careful with this principle from here out.

I was worried that the trajectory thing isn't distinctive to fferyllt, or that she doesn't quite reach titan levels of play because of it. So I did some field work to determine for myself if fferyllt is all she's cracked up to be. This quest took me to many parts of the site. I traveled to New York. From there I took the long trek to Rome, my eyes aching all the while. On the way, deep in the wilderness of MD, I often found myself trapped in the muck of wall-posts; hours would pass before I'd find myself wakeful long enough to escape. At one chaotic juncture in a Theme Park, I was forced to leave behind my only real friend, my wonderful sense of humor. Eventually, though, I made it to the fferyllt mausoleum in the Mafia Wiki, where she had inscribed intellectually respectable stuff (i guess) about her trajectory oriented playstyle eons ago, far longer ago than any gimmick has ever survived (besides I guess Zorblag's thing). I had finally found what I was looking for. I had finally found...validation.

so ok i guess i'll approve it

Annie Get Your Gun references a musical RC has no ties to and connotes being vig or even mafia more than it does scumhunting (we lynch those).

And "RAWR" suggests a certain emo subculture than it does, say, Tibbers.

by the way, probably gonna make it harder for rc to get any title due to antinoms here and elsewhere

Ok, so I'm changing up the rules on shitposting a little bit.

I'm just not going to welcome it. This isn't GD. Your posts in this thread should usually be on-topic - contributing to the process of finding and securing good titles for users on this site. Occasional, especially tasteful off-topic posts are fine. But if a pattern of shitposting becomes evident and annoying, you'll be warned, and after repeated offenses or some egregious offense, you'll be banned from the subforum, etc.

I just think all this turns people off from contributing to this thread, and is better done in some other thread anyway.

what does this impression really impact though if good titles that have 5 noms still get approved

It impacts what gets posted in this thread, clearly.

Hi, guys.

This is a reminder and warning to explain your title nominations when you make them, or immediately afterward. It's pretty low-effort, and if you don't, you're making it the job of everyone around you to think through your post, even just to see that it's a joke nom. Nominations without explanations will be read as shitposts, and of course joke noms will and have always been read as much as well. If you want to kid around, we have places for that; it's not here.

This has always been in the rules, but I've never attached any penalty to their breaking because no one really got set into a clear and disruptive pattern of low-effort/joke noms. But I'll put my foot down from here out since I have to, I guess. Nice day!

I figured out how to ban people!

In unrelated news, vonflare is taking a break from the thread for a week for harassment, etc. His behavior was found exceptional for its regularity (extending over many posts), acrimony, and distraction from the proper function of the thread. Everyone, if you've a problem with a user's posts, you have many options besides harassment, including reporting, ignoring, avoiding, and even respectful engagement. It can even be possible to pointedly complain about someone without being an asshole. Try it out some time, if you gotta.

See you around...

good titles tie communicate one or a few distinctive things about someone in a clever/pithy but easy to explain way that resonates w/ broad community

"hell in a cell", for example, ties panzer's interest in wrestling w/ his brusque communication style and is evocative imaginationwise
"shea" is subtle, conveying tsq's hyperpersonable social style not by outright calling it out but by laying out a direct artifact of this style directly linked to the classic function of titles to 'name' things
"second coming" w/ just two words tied together loads of apparently unrelated coincidences about mastin2, seeming to produce an iconic mythos on the spot
etc etc

what makes a good title depends a bit on what's already a title, because they sort of set baseline expectations/norms for titles that have to be played on for any "cleverness" standard to be met, but witty language is universablabhaslashblabhalablah

no, "mediocre" means "of only moderate quality; not very good"; think the label is apt for this title

It got so many nths that I felt like I’d come off as a stickler if I refused it. Next time I’ll be stronger.
