So, a crazy idea has been cooked up. MEM MEET! Nero and I would be hosting, since we're the two scummers in Memphis.

We're pretty centrally located in the country, and there's been a bit of interest shown, and it would be fun. We have a few ideas already for fun things to do.

For now, lets see if there's interest. I'll keep this post updated with details and ideas, and maybe even eventually a list!

I WILL BAKE COOKIES FOR EVERYONE

Possible Activities (will keep updating)
Beale Street (21+ after dark) party and get drunk, also buy t shirts and shot glasses
Mud Island River Park
Peabody Hotel for the parade of the ducks http://www.peabodymemphis.com/ducks-en.html
Escape Rooms
Eat the best damn BBQ ever
Board Games (We have a HUGE board game club, with access to pretty much anything!)
Brooks museum of Art
Shelby Farms for hiking or just trail walking (they also have zip lines)
bowling

Great food
One and Only BBQ (#1 imo)
Central BBQ (#2 imo, fite me)
Cheffies (sandwiches and salads, really good!)
YOLO (frozen yogurt)
Gus's (amazing fried chicken, world famous!)
Young Ave Deli (not really a deli, great food)
Huey's (local chain, they let you shoot toothpicks into the ceiling and write on the walls. Also good food)
Memphis Pizza Cafe (pizza....)
Gibson Donuts (it's a must and the donuts are half price after 11pm)

INTERESTED

So, I know its about a year away, but lets start talking dates. I'm not super set in it being Sept/Oct, if we want to decide on something else.

How long of a meet do we want to do? A week?

Classes will have already started in the US. But thats not a problem for me.
So tentatively September 1-8? That Saturday-Saturday

I mean, summers here are 100+ degrees typically. There's AC, but for me personally that means no outdoor activities. Because I don't do the heat.

I would honestly be fine with summer, maybe the first week of August? It's just gonna be hot. Does that work better for people?

Yea, the mid week thing makes sense. Just trying to get a feel for things moving forward with this. I think we can keep talking about things, and maybe make a more solid plan come March or so.

That's fine by me, and y'all can do whatever you want, but I know for me personally, that completely excludes any outdoor activities unless melting is the final check on your bucket list.

We could actually still go to mud island river park. There's water there you can play/walk in. Slightly cooling.

Plus it's one of my favorite spots in the city and it may not be there in a few years.

Looking at a calendar, I'm thinking maybe May 30-June 6. Those are both Wednesdays.

Oh no, that sounds awful. I mean...I guess one of the meets will have to be blighted by your insufferable presence. I guess we could take one for the team.

I feel like this will be here before we know it. So maybe start figuring out how many people are really coming and we can start looking at potential lodging.

Public transport here sucks btw and I am fully prepared to drive people around and do airport trips. However my car will only fit 5 people including me (the driver). So I’m hoping that at least one or two other people are planning on driving, or maybe we can pool for Uber’s and stuff.

We’ll figure it out. When I get to a computer I’ll post some links of places I was looking at for potential lodging.

Hotels are also an option I suppose. It just depends on how many people are coming and what you'd all prefer.

So Ectomancer remains the only one to respond to the mass PM I sent out a while back.

If no one is interested anymore, or wants to discuss other dates, I'm going to say the first week of June is a no go.

I think I'm going to go ahead and say that we will not have MEMeet on the dates planned. I am however still open to discussion for future MEMeet dates. We'll just table the discussion.

I will also add though that I am a mostly jobless bum, and if anyone wanted to come visit Memphis, anytime, I would be happy to be a tour guide while you're here, and also make baked goods. We can go out to eat and visit museums and I will take you to my board game nights.

I'm no longer a mostly jobless bum. But I'll still play tour guide any time.

If there's actually interest in a MEM-meet, I'll absolutely plan one. But it should be in the months of like March/April/September/October. Memphis is not very pleasant outside of those months.

Also public transport sucks, so we'd have to have a few people that drive.

But it's doable.
