I've tried nuzlocking well over 10 times. In all of them, total wipe happened on 7th badge or before.

I can't get the hang of it, haha

RULES

1. If a Pokemon faints, it cannot be used again and will be placed in the "Dead" box.
2. After Poke Balls have been received, the first Pokemon encountered in an area is the only one I may catch.
3. Nicknames must be given to each caught Pokemon. (Naming scheme is based on food)
4. If the first Pokemon encountered in an area is one I have already caught which is still alive, or evolutionarily related to a pokemon I have already caught which is still alive, then it does not count.
5. Gift Pokemon does not count as the route's catch.

Story:

BORING BEGINNING FIGHTS. That is all.

Story:

Boop boop, NEW POKEMON! Damn, a patrat. I can live with that. Nickname: Red Bull. The rat thing looks like its hopped up on Red Bull.

After that: GRINDING. Oops. Bye Red Bull. Critical hit from a Lillipup. Bacon avenged her fallen teammate. -.-

Story:

Grinding Bacon up to level 9, then finally going to face N. Fried that Purrlion no problem. Route 2 here i come!

YES, a Lillipup. Named it Kung Pao. You know, Chinese places don't care if the meat they serve is chicken or dog, right? Ground him up to level 9.

Went to the dream yard. Got a Pansage, named him Caesar, after the salad. (Gift pokemon, so my hopes for an Munna is still alive. Went, battled Cheren, annihilated him, then yet more grinding...

Got my party up to level 11, then I just said screw it and went in the gym. Dispatched the first two trainers without difficulty. Oh, hi Cress. lets battle.

Bacon (L. 11) v.s. Lillipup (L. 12)

I get the dog down to red, but naturally Potion. I get him down to red again, but i'm in red too, so i start potioning too. He uses work up. uh oh. each bite now does 17 points to my Bacon. Segue to a string of potion, bite, potion, until i'm at 22 hp.
Ok, Tackle and finish it! Bite. Flinch. DAMN.
I was going to use a potion here, but a gut feeling: I use Fresh Water. CRIT. He gets Bacon down to 3 hp. Whew.
Another montage of potioning and biting ensues. Flinch again. Another montage of potioning and biting ensues.
THEN FINALLY BACON KILLS LILLIPUP. That SOB.

Ok. He sends out Panpour. I switch to Kung Pao.

Kung Pao (L. 12) V.S. Panpour (L. 14)

I leer him 3 times, while he hits Kung Pao with water gun 3 times. Barely alive, I switch him out to Caesar (L. 10). VINE WHIP VINE WHIP

I win without any deaths, despite my team being horribly underlevelled. Let's not do that again.... Fennel intercepts me and sends me to the dreamyard now. Munna HERE I COME.

Story:

I go to the Dreamyard. Story stuff, blah blah, then MUNNNA!. no. a Purrlion. Bah. I name it Tuna. I proceed to promptly get him killed. Ugh. Stupid Patrat with Bide.

I go to Route 3, and go in grass. Boop boop, a Pidove comes out. I catch her, (I always like the 3 stage bird pokemon each gen. dunno why) naming her McNugget. (heh)

Cheren shows up, and has his ass handed to him by Caesar and Kung Pao. Kung Pao is turning in a badass now.

I then grind all my pokemon up to 16/17. If theres one thing that I wish all generations had, its Audino. Makes grinding SO easy.

YES Kung Pao evolves and learns Take Down. Still a badass.

Go in cave, murder Team Plasmaaaaaa. I go out, stock up on a fuckton of repels, and go Drilbur hunting. I catch one and name him Potato.

I then get back to grinding.

This team is starting to look real good.

So far my deaths are the worthless pokemon, so I'm not too hit by it.

I never liked any of the cat lines.

Story:

I grind a bunch more times, evolving Bacon in a Pignite and having it learn Arm Thrust. Gonna be useful. Then I just pass the next city by in favor of more grinding. I am very fearful of that damned Watchog with Retaliate that Lenora has. That thing murdered at least 1 pokemon in every nuzlocke i have attempted on Black.

i get to the route leading to Pinwheel Forest. (I am counting that route, and the actual forest as 2 separate catch zones) I go in the grass, wondering what i will get.

Out comes Sawk. I send out Potato to get him low for the catch. I hit him, he bides. Crap. I Mud Slap twice, he takes Potato down to 26 HP. Okay. (Lv 12 Sawk vs Lv 17 Drilbur)

I hit again with metal claw, and he bides again. He's in low yellow so I risk another Metal Claw while he's biding. Just a tiny bit of red now. Great ball. HE BUSTS OUT. Crap. One more time.

Story:

I went to box Caesar. He wasn't doing me much good lately and i hoped to catch a good grass type in Pinwheel Forest, so any leveling would be wasted on him.

I then went back to Pinwheel Forest entrance and leveled up my team to level 20.

I was nervous, but I felt prepared for the Normal gym. I went there, with Teriyaki in front of my party. He waltzed through every trainer, dispatching them with ease while being untouched. Ah, time for the Leader battle.

Teriyaki (Lv. 21) V.S. Herdier (Lv. 18)

Teriyaki used Double Kick

Critical Hit, KO.

She sends out the Watchog I was dreading. BUT this time I have a trick up my sleeve.

Teriyaki (Lv. 21) V.S. Watchog (Lv. 20)

Watchog used Retaliate.

Sturdy leaves Teriyaki with 1 HP left.

Teryaki used COUNTER. BAM KO. Overkill?

Woohoo. Teriyaki is even better than I thought he would be.

Story stuff, blah blah, i go to Pinwheel Forest, go in the grass. YES a Cottonee. I love the battling style of that pokemon, so GRINDY, using status conditions instead of actual attacks.

Also, during my initial leveling up, McNugget learned Roost. Thats why i loved Pidoves in my prior nuzlockes. They did not die easily.

I go through the story stuff in the forest, halfway done. Levelled up Cottonee to level 20 too.

No releasing surviving pokemon either.

If I wipe, I must catch the first Pokemon I see in any route, then release my entire party, leaving that Pokemon as my only Pokemon and start anew. And I must go on to the elite 4, NO matter what

I've always played where a Shiny shows up (That isn't a 100% encounter case like Gyrados in the Lake of Rage) is free game.

This story is gonna be long as hell, so I'm gonna spilt it in bite sized pieces and release it every few days. All personal comments and observations will be in ooc tags. Disclaimer: this story will draw heavily on Stephen King's Dark Tower series, so I can't promise I won't spoil important information, so please, if any of you don't want me to do this story, tell me to stop. Some chapters will have progress. Some, like this one will be purely story- based. This is a nuzlocke of Pearl, following the rules Orcinus set out, except for the no item rule.

Spoiler: Prologue

Prologue: The World-Turtle

There is one turtle.

On the back of that turtle is another turtle.

And on top of that turtle there is another turtle.

And so on for 1991 and more turtles. On top of the very last turtle, rests the universe. That last turtle's name is Maturin. Filled with deep love for the universe, and all other versions of the universe that rests upon her back, she is intimately connected to each universe, so when she felt an manifestation of evil form in one, more powerful than all others before it, but one- the Crimson King.

But wasn't the crimson king defeated? The Gunslinger's eternal journey should have trapped him in a eternal prison of time.

Maturin slowly started to realize that some aspect of the Crimson King must have broken free and possessed one of the souls of the afflicted universe. She started to look deeply, until she found the Crimson King in one of the many Pokemon residing in Sinnoh, a land of peace. Maturin couldn't affect the universes as she was, so she spilt off a portion of her soul, and infused herself in one of the Pokemon with a similar form to her, a Turtwig.

Maturin opened her newfound eyes, to see that the Crimson King had indeed done the same. He took the form of Chimchar. With a modest grunt, Maturin launched a tackle at the Crimson King, while he scratched her.

"Whoa! These are rare Pokemon! I'm sure that Professor Rowan would love to see these!"

Both Maturin, and the King looked up in alarm as a girl in a white cap threw two yellow and black balls at them. With a soul- rending burn, their essences were drawn in the balls.

Chapter One: A Boy and his Friend

With a yawn, Klazam woke up, and got on the side of his bed to res- "KLAZAM, COME HERE NOWWW!"

He sighed, got up, glanced at the tv. "The Search for the Red Gyadaros" was

on. He walked downstairs. His mom was there, looking a bit shell-shocked.

"My dear son, your friend O was here earlier, yelling for you. He rushed outside a few seconds ago. Maybe you better go and see what's going on with him?"

Klazam walked outside, to see his peaceful town of Twinleaf. Not a soul was outside.

O must have rushed off to his home.

Klazam trudged over to his home, then reached for the door. With a bang, the door slammed open, blasting Klazam in the ground. O rushed out, and said " SeethatshowaboutthelakewiththeredGyadarosIbetchayouthattherewillbeapokemonlikethatatLakeVerity

Then O rocketed off in the direction of the lake.

Klazam, knowing O well, just waited a few seconds, then watched O turn around and jet in the opposite direction, slamming the door open again and going inside like a cat in the rain.

Klazam entered, and saw O's mom. She said "That boy rocketed upstairs... I wonder who he takes after..."

He braced himself on the rails as he went upstairs. Thankfully it went without incident. He entered O's room.

"OkbagsnacksjournalcompasscameraallrightimallsetletsgomeetyouthereKlazamorimfiningyoutenmilliondollars."

Klazam dove out of the way as his friend scooted down the stairs.

Klazam went downstairs, as O's mom muttered "..and he's off again. Wasn't my genes." He went outside, and walked to Lake Verity. O was hiding behind a tree right at the entrance to the lake. O whispered "cometheresaoldmanandagirlatthelakewomderwhoitis" Klazam went to the tree, and watched as the pair left the lake. Both young friends hid until they were past.

O stood up, with Klazam. They both went to the lake and noticed that there was a briefcase left in a patch of tall grass. O walked up briskly, but Klazam warned him, "Don't go in the tall grass! We might be attacked!" "Nahwewomtbeintherelongenough" as O plunged in the grass. Klazam sighed and followed. They stood around the briefcase, wondering who it belonged to, when two wild Starly sprang up out of the grass and started pecking at the pair. O screamed, and fell over the briefcase, and it sprang open. Within was 2 poke balls. "Letsusethesetodefendourselves."

O grabbed one and lobbed it, hard, at his Starly. It sprang open, and a Chimchar came out! The Chimchar snarled, and scratched the Starly. Meanwhile, Klazam was doing the same, but with a Turtwig, who was determined to defend Klazam.

After the brief battle, the girl in the white cap came back, looked at the unballed Pokemon. "Oh no, what are we gonna do? Professor Rowan!"

"What's wrong, Dawn?" Called out the old guy that left earlier, as he walked up. He noticed what was going on. "Ah, mmm. You two seem the perfect age to become Pokemon trainers. Here's your trainer ids. This will allow you two to take on the gym challenge."

"Ohthanksoldmanimgonnagothefirstgymrightthismintueklazamyoucometooorimfiningyouahundredmilliondollars."

O blew out of there.

Professor Rowan seemed wind blown as he said, "er, and can you do me a favor?" Klazam replied, "I really should go and get home, so sorry."

" Ah, hmm. Okay. You two can keep your Pokemon."

Klazam arrived to his home, and told his mom everything that happened. After getting mom's approval, he went up to his room to play with his newfound buddy.

He released the Turtwig. "Now, what should I call you? You look like a turtle, so how about Turtle Soup?"

"No."

Klazam yelped in alarm. He knew that Pokemon couldn't speak.

"Do not be afraid, my name is Maturin. I am both this Pokemon, and something much greater than this form I take now. Your friend is really unfortunate, because the Crimson King will soon make him a pawn in his mad quest to destroy the Dark Tower."

"What. Wait. Who."

"Do not worry. You will soon see how things are. You must set out on a quest of your own, to stop the Crimson King and his pawn. Even now, he is on his way to enslave the most powerful trainers in the land, the guardians of the Dark Tower in this parallel universe. You must break his spell on all of them and conquer the Dark Tower for yourself, to protect the Rose and the Door from all agents of chaos."

"Uh."

"Like I said you will learn. On our journey, more shall join our Ka-Tet. group bound together by fate These Pokemon who join us will be reflections of another powerful Ka-Tet in the Keystone World. These Pokemon will have unique characters. It is up to you to bind them together, and make them into the best Pokemon team in the land of Sinnoh.

"So I got to go and beat the elite four, and catch other Pokemon, to save this tower you speak of? I can try."

"There is no try, only do."

With that cryptic sentence, Klazam embarked on his great quest.

Chapter 2: The Meeting of the Ka-Tet

Klazam set out upon his journey. After jogging through some tall grass, he made it to Sandgem Town without incident. He went in a store, bought some poke balls, and went back to route 201.

"Okay, let's catch our first Pokemon, Maturin!"

"Oy."

"What was that?"

A Bidoof appeared, with curious gold-rimmed eyes. She barked "Oy!"

Maturin said "So the drawing of the Ka-Tet begins. This is Oy, a fiercely loyal spirit. Klazam! Catch Oy, and let us begin our quest."

"Zam! Oy! Quest!"

Klazam, perplexed by this exchange, threw a pokeball, regardless. Oy was drawn inside, without any struggle.

Klazam went back to Sandgem, and to route 202. He saw Dawn standing there, so he jogged over and said, "Hi! Have you seen O?" "O?" "My friend who runs everywhere." "Oh no, but I can show you how to catch a Pokemon." "Nah, I know how."dear god, I wish this was possible

After bypassing Dawn, Klazam made his way to Jublife City, but not before meeting another Pokemon. This one was a Starly with a intelligent and mischievous gleam in his eye. "Hey how ya doing? Name's Eddie Dean. I hear that you need some help, so I'm here, to take down the Crimson King."

Klazam went in the city, and bumped in O in front of the trainer school. O seemed a bit out of it.

"Hi, everything all right?"

"Los' the Red has shown me so much. Klazam. I am going to become the most powerful trainer in the land. Nobody will stop me."

And with that he walked (!!!) off.

Klazam was worried, to see this so fundamental a shift in O's character. Maybe Maturin was right? He went to route 218, and met a man with a old rod. The guy gave Klazam the rod, and showed him how to fish. On his first try, he hooked a Pokemon.

A Magikarp splashed out of the water. "MAH NEW HONKY FRIEND, YOU NEVAH GOAN CATCH ME, JUST WATCH ME YOU HONKY MAHFAH."

Eddie Dean's ball popped open, and Eddie came out, looked at the Magikarp with cool eyes. "I know her. She's Detta Walker. A downright nasty one, but catch her. She'll come around eventually." "DA HONKY HAS A PET PARROT.." "Shut up Detta. Klazam, catch her and hurry up!"

Ok, ball, catch.

Klazam groaned. A Magikarp? And a bitchy one at that? This trip will be a long one...

North he went. As he was walking in tall grass, a Budew popped out. Klazam knelt down and patted the Budew on its head. "Now which one are you? OWWW"

The Budew bit Klazam, and squeaked "Budew!"

Klazam threw Maturin's ball out. " And who is this, Maturin?"

"A Budew. Only certain Pokemon has been inhabited by the keystone Ka-Tet. This is not one of them. Do not catch it, and allow me to knock it out."

Past that Budew, was a cave. Klazam popped in for a short look, and promptly was greeted by a silent Zubat. This Zubat seemed quite tired.

Maturin said, "and now we meet the most powerful member of our Ka-Tet, Roland Deschain. He is the Gunslinger of the Keystone World. This Zubat will possess an unearthly speed, and be very accurate." Ball. Catch.

Klazam turned back, and walked East of Jublife. He saw O walking up to him, so Klazam hurried up to meet O before he went off again.

O looked at Klazam, with an eerie smile. "Your friend O is dead now. I am Walter O'Dim. You have been drawn in an ancient struggle unwittingly. I'll offer you a way to stay alive: hand over all your pokeballs and go back home."

I try to be at least four levels ahead of the leader. And I always make sure the main poke either is immune or should be faster than anything the leader has.

Real Nuzlockes don't grind. Within one level or it's hacks.

Most Nuzlocks that I've run make sure that you aren't allowed to lose over 6 pokemon.

Maestro- How to do a showdown battle:

Right before you battle any gymleader- go to the site, make a team, of EXACTLY what you have. adjust stats to match exactly, nature, moveset, then save the team, and wait for everyone to be ready. Whilst you're waiting, you can still move forward with the game, because the site saves teams, which is pretty nice.

When everyone's ready, we do round robin matches, for fun.

update on my newly started Randomizer Wedlocke on Pokemon Emerald

(for those who don't know how this works, you make use of third-party software to Mod a GBA ROMfile and randomize EVERY Pokemon in the game, from starters to Wilds. levels stay the same, and you can opt for world-wide replacements on a random basis [e.g. all Zubat in Hoenn become one single other Pokemon] or you can od it by Route, or you can make every single encounter completely random. in a Wedlocke, this allows for even MORE variety with the pairing system and can make for an amazingly fun playthrough or a frustratingly impossible one)

here're the rules I'm using if anybody wishes to join me:

1. Starter Pokemon set to random, no hold items
2. Wild Pokemon set to Route-specific Randomizer, meaning I can count on always finding Ninetales instead of Poochyena on Route 101, but on Route 103 instead of Poochyena or Ninetales I find Beautifly (trust me, it's 10x more fun with this method than any other. no COMPLETELY UNPREDICTABLE encounters, but no annoyance when every Zubat is a Mewtwo or something stupid like that)
3. all Wedlocke rules apply (meaning that even if I do meet a Random Legend - odds are I can't catch it anyway)

I have tm's for both screen moves (light screen + reflect), and i managed to get a light clay off a mudbray with thief. Should i make my magnetmite a dual screens pokemon and have just the two slots open for STAB attacks? i lose sonicboom and Thunder wave at this time if i were to do that- both useful in capturing pokemon.

So many deaths. Cleared the second grand trial, assumed the kahuna would be around 2 levels above the last wild pokemon area. Nope, 5 levels. Lost two Pokemon to the kahuna, only won thanks to Milk Drink

Much More Manageable: The second line for the name of a location (which you can see whenever you enter that area) indicates a new area; Hau'Oli Outskirts and Farthest Hallow are separate areas from Route 1 and Ten Carat Hill, respectively.
Not Sure Where Else This Even Applies: Areas listed as a subsection on the map count as new areas, even if the name of the location doesn't change; the Trainers' School is a separate area from Route 1 or the Hau'oli Outskirts.

I accept gift pokemon freely though (yes, the munchlax, and it died anyway)

Decided to train up a b team of Pokemon, accidentally run in an ace trainer who z moves my only on-level Pokemon then straight wipes my b team. Welp

I basically only have 3 main Pokemon and 3 underlevellwd Pokemon-

Jolteon, Mudsdale, Gyadaros is the on level pokes, and pelipper, finneon, gumshoos are the other 3 Pokemon I have left.

If only gyadaros could catch Pokemon without critically killing it by accident.. (7 times!)
