Rules


Objective:
Own the last character(s) alive or have your character successfully open the door for the detective. Compete this by killing off all the other characters, especially when their portrait is showing - or by changing the current portrait and hope that yours shows up next.

Set-up:
Each of the 12 character cards is split amongst all players. The character cards should be kept in secret, as once your characters have all died, you will be removed from the game and all of your trap cards will be discarded and you can no longer move any other characters. Once all the character cards have been dealt, players may privately communicate with other players in the game.

Gameplay:
The character whose portrait is shown is the character who is currently listed as being the heir of the inheritance. This character can only win by being the last character standing or by successfully opening the door for the detective. Portraits only change when that character dies, or
when the portrait is changed by discarding a set of any 5 cards.
if a player opts to not draw a card when eligible (either after successfully landing a character on a trap or after a Detective card has been drawn)

Each turn a player may move any 2 characters either 1 or 2 spaces each. You may move any character, including ones you do not own. Before any character is killed, all characters must be moved off of the center space (the dining room table - 13 dead end drive logo). There are ten main spaces (marble) and each has its own special extension space. Extension spaces can only be reached by its specific marble space. IE: If a character is currently on the fireplace extension space, the only legal move is to first go back to the top center marble space for move 1 - and can then move to the upper left or upper right marble space for move 2.

Multiple players may occupy any of the main room spaces. The trap spaces (and secret passages or other extension spaces) may only be occupied by one player. If you end up on a trap space (statue, stairs, fireplace, chandelier, bookcase), you privately draw a card. If you draw a detective card, you will immediately announce that you have drawn a detective card, and you will move the detective one space closer to the door. Then, you may privately draw another trap card. Once all 5 detective cards have been drawn, the detective will be waiting at the front door. If a character has their portrait showing and successfully opens the front door for the detective (by ending on the front door extension space), that character will win!

If, after all characters have left the dining room table, a character ends on a trap space, the player that moved that character may play a trap card that matches that trap. If a player uses a trap card that matches the trap upon which the character was moved, that character will die by that trap. If a trap card shows 2 different traps (or the wild), it may be used for either trap, but must be discarded upon first use. Trap cards are not required to be played even if a player owns that trap card. You are allowed to bluff and not use any cards. If a character is moved to a trap space and does not die that turn, the character must be moved to another trap space on a new turn before that character can become victim to a trap or before that trap is attempted to be used again.

Turns: 24 hrs

A) Move 1 character one or two spaces. If ending on a trap, take a new trap card. If using a secret passage, move to a corner marble space.
B) Move 1 other character one or two spaces. If ending on a trap, take a new trap card. If using a secret passage, move to a corner marble space.
C) If that player has a trap card that matches a trap that was landed upon during either A or B, then use that card by discarding it and removing the character on that trap. (Only if all 12 players have already been moved once)
D) If the character whose portrait has died this turn, remove it and change to the next portrait. Player may discard 5 trap cards to move the current portrait card to the back of the pile.

Spoiler: Traps
  • To activate the
    Statue
    , in the gallery, a player can flip a switch that will send a statue in a full suit of armor crashing down onto the pawn.
  • In order to activate the
    Stairs
    , a player can move it up onto the top of the stairs in the hall and flip a switch that will violently toss the pawn back down the stairs and onto the board, resulting in its elimination.
  • The
    Fireplace
    is activated in the dining room when a player flips a switch that will send the pawn flying backwards and into the figurative fire, though the box describes it as a Trap Door.
  • To activate the
    Chandelier
    , flip a switch in the music room that drops the chandelier onto the pawn, eliminating it from play.
  • To activate the
    Bookcase
    , move that pawn up onto the top of the ladder and rest that pawn on top of the bookcase in the library, and flip a switch that will send the pawn flying back onto the board and eliminating it from play.

Sorry I fell asleep right when I got home. Role PMs going out this minute. One last rule change.

Instead of having to spend 5 cards to change the portrait, what will happen is that portrait changes can occur if a player chooses to not draw a card during that turn when eligible. This may happen after placing a character on a trap, or when you are permitted to take another card after drawing a Detective card.

Well it appears that the lawyer is boring himself to death reading the will, so now’s your chance to start making your move and advancing yourself to the win. The first player is TwoInAMillion and can now move any 2 characters 1-2 spaces each. Please remember that no player can be killed until all 12 characters have been moved away from the table. Just remember that if the detective arrives and knocks on the door, if the character whose portrait is showing answers and opens the door, that player wins! If not, the winner is determined by whoever is the last character standing.

During your turn just post here which two characters you would like to move and to where. If you successfully land a character on a trap, please also denote in your post whether you would like to either change the portrait or draw a card. If you are to draw a card, I will PM you your card. You will then need to decide whether to use the card (if you can), or if you would like to end your turn. You will have 24 hrs for each action point. Failure to act within 24 hrs will lead to a strike and moving onto the next player's turn.

Starting at the 13 Dead End Drive logo you will move to the marble spaces using 2 moves. It will not be enough movement to get to the actual trap space. Do you still want to make that move then?
