Infiltration and secrecy rule the game. The mafia in this province all know it. Countless cities they’ve torn down from within; countless villages they’ve burned without anyone knowing their true identities. Within the walls of this place, their newest target, they’re sure another victory is easily at hand. Their first night here, they take one step towards that victory. There’s a commotion in the town square the next morning, and they join the throng, worried faces masking the glee they feel within. The fruit of their labor lies dead on the ground.

, was killed pregame.
But there’s something about this town they don’t know about. There’s something sinister, a threat already here. The full moon rises that very night, and a blood-curdling cry awakens the innocent and the guilty alike. All rush to the source of the noise. The mafia exchange glances. This murder was not their doing.
numberQ’s twin,
Mod Aligned
, was killed pregame.
They attend the town meeting, and there they learn of the werewolves’ existence. The werewolves also surely know of theirs, from the first night’s murder. The town alderman proclaims that, though one death is doubtlessly the work of werewolves, the one the night before occurred without the full moon’s gaze. With a stony face, he deduces that more than one foul faction haunts this town.
He calls upon the local monastery to perform their sacred duty of routing lycanthropes. And, to investigate the first death, he forms another group of citizens. These monks and these masons are tasked with determining the identities of the murderers, but - as always - infiltration and secrecy rule the game. To prevent infiltration, they must uphold secrecy, and thus they are forbidden from revealing their identities to the rest of the townsfolk.
And if a goon or a wolf has already slipped into these societies unnoticed? May God help us all.

Keep flaming to a minimum. Mafia can get to be a heated game, but let's be civil about this.
Unless otherwise specified in your role PM or by me, you may not communicate outside of this thread while the game is running. If someone contacts you outside of the game, please let me know immediately.
Do not quote any private communication to which you have access. This includes game-related PMs, instant messages, and QuickTopics. Quoting time stamps from any private communication is also forbidden. Paraphrasing is okay.
If it is not visible to the naked eye, do not post it. This includes, but is not limited to: invisible text, tiny text, encrypted text, and text hidden within tags. Spoiler text, however, is allowed, as long as it is used within reason. For cases of breadcrumbing where you aren't sure, please PM me beforehand.
If you have the ability to edit your posts, don't use it in my game.

Activity
Prods will be issued to players if they have not posted within a 48-hour period; they will have 24 hours to respond in the game thread before I search for a replacement. I will also send reminders on request as long as at least 24 hours have passed since the player's last post.
Players who have been prodded 3 times are subject to replacement without further notice. Player-requested reminders do not count toward this total.
If you anticipate being away for at least 48 hours, please PM me or post a V/LA notice in the thread with the expected date of your return.
Days and Nights
Days have a maximum duration of 2 weeks (14 days). Deadline extensions will be granted only in extreme circumstances.
Nights have a fixed duration of 3 days. Even if all night actions are received before then, the next day will not start until the deadline is up.
Lynches occur through simple majority (50% of living players + 1, rounded down). If no majority is reached at deadline, a no lynch will occur.
Votes and unvotes must be bolded (e.g.,
Vote: numberQ
and
Unvote
). Unvotes are not necessary when switching votes. Use of the vote tags (e.g., VOTE: numberQ) is optional.
No lynch may be voted for the same way normal lynches are (e.g., VOTE: No lynch). A no lynch will also occur through simple majority.
All players, including the lynched player, are allowed to discuss in twilight phase until I post the death scene. Dead players may make one "Bah!" post that contains no game-related content.
Moderator Actions
Flavor is for entertainment purposes only and has no significance in the game.
For minor questions or vote count errors, please bold your concern in the thread. For all other issues, use PM.

Biggest rule: Mafia is just a game, so play to win, but more importantly, play to have fun!
To head off any potential slips, yes I sent out Quick Topic links instead of using the private forum. Guess I'm showing my age, since last time I participated in a game, we didn't have it nice and easy like you young whippersnappers, with our own place for private threads!
Since it's nice to have everything all on one site, the QTs will be ignored, and there are now PTs in the private forum for the factions that get PTs. If you're a vanilla townie and not a mason or a monk, feel free to ignore this!
No one's gone 48 hours without posting aside from ShadedMelee. If you want to request a prod for a specific person, feel free to let me know, if it's been at least 24 hours since they've posted.
@mod: Could you please elaborate on this? Did you lock the Scum PTs before or after having sent out the Mason/Monk PMs? Thanks in advance.
The 4 PTs were locked after I sent out all Mafia, Werewolf, Mason, Monk, and VT PMs, and shortly before I opened this game thread. I feel we're veering close to information that should remain private while the game is still running, so be aware of that if I refuse to answer any potential future questions along these lines.
The alderman watches over the gathered townsfolk as accusations are flung and fingers are pointed. Day turns to twilight turns to night, and the fat, full moon leers from above. Finally, a consensus is reached. One of their own is dragged to the tree in the center of town, and even as they pull him, his body transforms. Bubbling flesh erupts into a stooped musculature, and hair sprouts along his body faster than any normal hair growth. The moon sings its sweet song as a their victim is strung up. His body jerks, then sways limply beneath the lunar light.
The remaining townsfolk filter back to their houses. Only two among them laugh when they're alone - the insidious mafia.
Day breaks, and the townsfolk rouse themselves from sleep. The first to arrive at the center of town lets out a blood curdling scream; the others rush to see what the commotion is. In pools of blood lie two murders. Before anyone can react to this, the alderman steps forward. There are four things to search for on these bodies that will tell them who they were.
The first is the most obvious. Werewolves, when killed, stay in whatever transformative state they were in just before their death. Neither of these bodies are werewolves.
The second is conjecture, but the alderman feels strongly it's true. Mafia members would surely have weapons on them. Neither of these bodies are from the mafia.
The third and fourth are secrets known only to the alderman himself. He searches the bodies, then turns to the townsfolk. In a grave voice, he informs them that neither of these bodies are from the masons or the monks.
Today, the conversation is terse. Three deaths in less than 24 hours has shaken the town to its core, and yet they know more must follow. The discussion slowly builds up steam until, finally, a victim is decided. Her eyes are vacant as they drag her to the hanging tree, but even with her head in the noose, the alderman stops them. There are not enough votes. She snaps out of it just long enough to tighten the rope around her own neck. The alderman nods, a grim look on his face. She falls, twitches, dies. In her pockets, a gun is found.
Hope follows the townsfolk home that night. They've been successful so far - can they really survive this?
In every household, tension wraps the villagers' daily routines. Breakfast, bathing, brushing their teeth - beneath the mundanity lies fear and uncertainty. Did more die last night? Those who are alive know they are alive, but beyond that, anything is possible. Has the alderman himself been killed by these fiends?
That is not so; the alderman is there in the center of town first, before anyone else has arrived. As they trickle in, they gasp at the sight of him kneeling in silence over two more bodies. He rises, stares them all in the eyes, and reports that more innocents have met their end by the hands of the mafia and the werewolves.
The numbers dwindle, and things click into place. Plans are made, are unraveled, are laid bare to all before the chaos of uncertainty. Today's target is made clear, but the final toll of the bell comes sooner than expected. The alderman examines the body after the deed is done. Hidden on his body is another gun, its metal cold and black.
As his body swings from the tree, the rest of the villagers trade troubled glances. It all comes back to the werewolves, in the end. The mafia interlopers made a grave mistake upon traveling here. Can the last threat be routed before howls of victory fill the night sky?
There is hope, for once. The mafia have been eliminated. The werewolves have been dealt a significant blow. Yet hope is tempered with fear, for the werewolf threat still looms large over the village.
Sure enough, upon their arrival at the center of town, the villagers see yet another victim splayed in a pool of his own blood. The alderman stands above the body, staring at something clutched in his hands. Once everyone arrives, he shows those gathered the item he holds - a small token, engraved with a familiar symbol. It's the same symbol emblazoned over the entrance of the monastery.
Today, the decision is made quickly. Discussion is unneeded; the final werewolf is obvious.
But something is wrong. His body does not mutate as he is hung from the tree. The alderman, his face pale, turns to the amassed crowd and slowly shakes his head. Somewhere in that crowd, the true final culprit can barely contain a look of unparalleled glee.
As always, the alderman is already there when the villagers arrive. He is kneeling - no, almost crumpled - at the base of the tree. There is a slouch in his shoulders unbecoming the normally proud stature of this man. The reason why is evident. Another body, but not like the others. It is posed, leaning against the tree at the center of the village. If not for the brutal and bloody lacerations across its flesh, you might think it were simply resting.
Carved into the tree is a simple phrase - a taunt, a mocking epithet.
Final Chance
It is a dare from the remaining werewolf, a confident proclamation of their own victory. Silence fills a few moments, as all gathered stare at the body and the phrase. Finally, the alderman rises. It is time.
As the final werewolf stood over the countless bodies strewn throughout the town center, they laughed. Against the odds, they had beaten out the villagers and the mafia members, and now this place was ready for their pack to take over.
"We did it, Jay," said Elsa.
"That we did, Elsa," said Jay.
The full moon rose that night, and with it, the howls of the wolves.

That was a pretty exciting game to read. Lots of excellent performances - I particularly enjoyed the Math/Jay interactions, knowing Jay was a wolf. Despite some lurking, I thought that was a great game. Thanks for playing, everyone!
I didn't want to use too much of Jay's flavor in the WW PT to avoid wolves writing the kill flavor like Math said. But that taunt fit too well to pass up. Also the Jay/Elsa thing, but that only came out in the final bit of flavor text anyway.
The prospect of having to form reads on you in a game is slightly scary, but if you're interested, your fellow werewolf Beefster has a mini normal in signups that I'm in for.
