Over the course of months, our holy friend settled in fairly well. He visited the tribe regularly, and by bringing gifts of bread and fish he managed to develop a good relationship with them, despite the language barrier. He spent weeks studying their language and culture, and eventually knew enough to say a few simple phrases. He was ecstatic to find that his new friends were a friendly tribe, and they invited him to stay and share the land with them for as long as he wanted.

He accepted, thinking to himself that *this* was where he was supposed to be, and filled his days with learning new words from the tribesmen, weaving baskets, fishing, and most importantly answering any questions posed to him. He still observed all of his spiritual beliefs, but he found himself more and more taken with the tribe. One day, the man saw a fisherman gutting a fish stand and throw the fish into the field. Perplexed, he asked the man why he would waste such a perfectly good fish after going to all the effort of catching and cleaning it. The man replied, "Why, to feed the fields of course. If I give them fish today, then on a day when the fish don't come, the fields will remember and give us more food in gratitude." The holy man was unconvinced, but intrigued, and resolved to spend more time learning the culture of these people.

One more, I think, to bring this joke all the way home. Possibly two.

Excuse you. I was fired by Santa because of all of the flying under the influence and hit and run charges. My irreverence and incompetence had nothing to do with it.
