Generally, to be a backup mod you need to satisfy the modding requirements. I think Large backups need to have actually modded a large and Newbie backups HAVE to have modded a newbie. Other than that, nah, go nuts.
Basically you're a spectator with access to all PM's who's expected to post VCs and help with action resolution if necessary. Sometimes you're called on to weigh in on mod decisions. Sometimes you do absolutely nothing over the course of a game. All depends on who you're backing up. (For example, I try hard to make sure my backups are unnecessary, but some people really appreciate help with frequent VCs and such.)

"Looking" for a backup mod for a Secret Alt Jester game. Should require no work and is a good way to get your feet wet with modding if you're trying to decide if you want to mod games.

I intend to in to mod the third triplicate game in a couple of weeks. The setup will be an abhorrently complicated mess and also fully open. I will require a backup to be able to take over in the event that I fall off of the face of the planet.
You will almost certainly have to do nothing for the game. On the other hand, the game will be a nightmare to mod, so you will need to be able to handle that if the worst happens. Anyone interested?
