Coin Payback II (Final Results)

So here's a variant on the coin game.

Everyone starts with nine more coins than the number of players in the game. (8 players - 17 coins each, 21 players - 30 coins each, etc), and there are thirteen rounds in the game.
Each round, players spend some integer number of coins, and they're ranked against the other players, with those who spend more receiving the better rank. Then they receive a payback depending on their position - last place receives 10 coins, and each higher place receives one coin more in payback (so with eight players, 1st would receive 17 coins). If there's a tie, those involved in the tie receive the lower amount (and in a tie for last the amount paid will be reduced below 10 accordingly)

However, the goal is

not

to build up the most coins; instead it is to earn the most points over the thirteen rounds. Each round, players in (roughly) the top half of positions receive points, with 1st receiving the most (obviously). The point system will vary depending on the number of players in the game, but as an example, with 8 players the top four would receive points in a 9-6-3-1 fashion, or with 12 players it would be the top six in a 10-6-4-3-2-1 fashion. Again, if there is a tie, the players involved will receive points according to the lower position.

Player A spends 15 coins, ranking 1st. He receives 17 coins in payback, along with 9 points.
Player B spends 14 coins, ranking 2nd. He receives 16 coins in payback, along with 6 points.
Player F and G both spend 12 coins, tying for 3rd. They receive 14 coins each in payback, along with 1 point (the score for 4th).
Player H spends 9 coins, ranking 5th. He receives 13 coins in payback, but no points.
Player D spends 6 coins, ranking 6th. He receives 12 coins in payback, but no points.
Player C and Player E both spend 0 coins, tying for last. They receive 9 coins each in payback (they tie for last, which reduces the last place payback), but no points.

It's also possible to send a default/fallback value to use in the future if you happen to not submit. You can express the value in an absolute number of coins, or a percentage of the total (which will be rounded down if necessary). If a player doesn't submit and doesn't have a fallback value, they won't participate in that round.

It's one of those games that's a lot easier to understand by just jumping in, you can view the previous game to get more of an idea.

Two people go all-in, so neither of them get the 9 points. Behind them, three others spend moderately but only have two point-places to chase, and while they all profit to some extent StrangerCoug (who missed out) will most likely be disappointed. Cheery Dog and Felissan both go for 18, producing another tie for first. Below that most players elect to save their coins, allowing StrangerCoug to score third place with 12 and TwoInAMillion to score fourth place with a mere 7 coins! TwoInAMillion picks up 8 coins in profit along with that point, a very well-chosen spend. Below that, mallowgeno gets 9, Not_Mafia gets 10, Gammagooey gets 11(!), but animorpherv1 and Vijarada tie for last and only get 9 themselves.

huge

drop - fourth place could have been claimed for a mere 3 coins, but Cheery Dog and TwoInAMillion tie on 2. They still go +12, however, as does Felissan on 1. Not_Mafia, StrangerCoug, and Vijarada ALL spend 0, and only wind up earning 8 coins each for their trouble thanks to the penalty.

Not_Mafia manages to make it two for two, with a very high-spending Round 12 catching a lot of players out. Gammagooey and Felissan round out the podium, and strangely enough there's a three-way tie for last place. Congratulations to our champion, and thanks to everyone for playing.

I'm trying to think of a way to keep players lower down from giving up and losing motivation. I added the option to have a fallback value to the rules but it wasn't really taken advantage much, maybe its importance could be stressed some more?
