{Void 08}

Lost Expedition

Image

Decades ago, a failed expedition happened to traverse the planet. The brave and brash Captain Damon led the team, but it was clear that there have been no survivors. Such a pity too. Instead we're left with Sgt. AJ Frost instead. Anyway, there are remnants of a map that the expedition used, but it's hard to figure out where they started and where they end. Your task today, to avoid being left behind, is to organize your map to accurately record the expedition and then set your pathway to get to the end point of the expedition. I hope you find evidence of Captain Damon's career at the end of the maze, or maybe you'll just find that he just disappeared - maybe into thin air, or under the weight of his statements. It's your job to find out.

When you're ready to begin, fill out this google form. Upon entering your starting information, you'll be shown a link to an imgur gif which shows a 14x10 maze. However, the entire maze will not be shown at the same time. The outline of the entire maze will always be present, but the gif will only show you one column or row at a time for an equal amount of time. The remainder of the maze will appear blank within the outline. You should take impeccable notes (I recommend using pencil and paper or your own spreadsheet or word processing document), because your solution will not be drawn, but instead must be given using commands. The solution must be listed using commands from a first-person perspective and may enter at either entryway and must exit through the other. The possible commands are "L(eft)", "F(orward)", and "R(ight)". Each command will advance the movement one square. Left/Right turns will round a corner. The best way to imagine this is that you are starting on the grey line boundary of the square and a command will move you to the next relevant grey line boundary. Examples of movement are listed below:

Image

To complete the challenge, fill out the google form a second time with your letter command sequence 10 moves at a time in each question field. There will be a total of 50-60 commands required for the
only
solution. The form may be completed from either entrance or exit first - both command sequences are valid. Only the command movement sequence will be judged; you are not required to have mapped out all the dead ends or present a screenshot. The Black Hole nominee and Void participant who have entered an incorrect move the earliest in their sequence will be eliminated. If all participants in either The Void or Black Hole have correctly completed the sequence, the tiebreaker will be time. You have
(expired on 2018-02-18 08:13:02)
.
As always, no outside resources are allowed, especially any that will modify the .gif
You are allowed to take notes on pencil/paper, your own spreadsheet, or word processing document.

Just a note, there is more than one pathway solution to the maze. As stated before, you can begin from either opening in the maze. Additionally, there has been an additional 12 hrs added on top of the original deadline.

This was a close one. Let's look at the Black Hole results first.

Coming in first, and remaining in the game...

Spoiler:
Image

Chevre solved the maze in 24:25!

Meaning that unfortunately...

Spoiler:
Image

Fluminator, your time of 40:40 wasn't enough. You've been a fierce competitor in this game, and I'm sure everyone is happy they won't need to face you in the future. I hope we get to see you compete in this series again.

Coming in first of those in the Void...

Spoiler:
Image

MGD, with a time of 15:42!

In second...

Spoiler:
Image

Cephrir, with a time of 19:13!

This leaves Radja and Ghug. One will go home.

The final surviving player...

Spoiler:
Image

Ghug, with a time of 25:08.

Spoiler:
Image

Radja, you've narrowly escaped elimination in the past, but with a time of 1:08:44, you've been sucked into the deep vacuum of space and must remain there forever. It's been a blast having you in the game, and I think you surprised yourself with your performance in the word game challenges. We hope to see you again down the line.

{Mission 09}

Terraforming Wars

Image

So now that we've been traversing the universe and learning more about alien lifeforms, it's about time that we create a planet based on The Challenge, because the universe deserves a place that is all Bananas vs. Wes all the time. Any other civilization would be less civilized. Therefore, we need to create this challenge planet. Maybe we can call it Teej-land. Before we can create this new civilization, we need to create buildings for this new place. To do so, we need to analyze and see how those Earthlings did it first.

Today's mission is all about skyscrapers. This mission will
not
be played in teams. You will be placed into 5 different pairs based on the algorithm. It will be a pair mission and both members of the pair should be online at the same time to complete this mission. Both members can compete in both sections of the mission. The pair who wins this mission will be immune and
all other players
will be eligible for the Black Hole vote. There will continue to be 2 players selected for the Black Hole, and the other 6 will go into the Void.

If you're familiar with the skyscraper type of puzzle, then congrats! This mission is not about solving Skyscraper puzzles. This mission has already been solved and we have the heights of all the buildings all set. However, all the clues are missing! Usually the clues will direct you to how many buildings are visible within your sightline for that row or column. This time you will have all the skyscrapers visible to you within a 5x5 grid on a Google Drawing (view-only) page. However, each cell in the grid will have the google map screencap for a skyscraper in the world. If you click on any cell in the grid, it will open up a larger screencap. The grid has cropped 100x100pixel images, and the larger version is 550x500pixel and has included a larger footprint and has more contextual clues.
The images are not identical, therefore, it is highly recommended to click on each of the cells to see a better image.
You will have to use outside resources to identify the skyscraper and its height (preferably in feet). Once you have identified the heights of all 25 cells, you will be able to figure out which buildings will be visible within a specific row and column. At that point, you will be able to figure out from 1-5 how many buildings are visible for each clue (named A1-A5, B1-B5, C1-C5, and D1-D5).
You are allowed to use outside resources for the skyscraper puzzle only.

Once you have these 20 clues determined, this will help you to figure out what is the ideal size for the buildings you will building your new home planet. Using the 20 digits (A1-D5) from part 1, you will be able to complete part 2. You will plug in all of these numbers into an equation that will be provided to you in the Google Drawing (ie: A1-B3 + D5). Once your pair has completed the equation, you must submit the answer. The team that submits the correct answer in the least amount of time will win the challenge.
You are not allowed to use outside resources (aside from arithmetical functions on a calculator) for this part of the challenge.
The losing pairs will all enter the Black Hole vote, where 2 individuals will face the Black Hole and the remainder will face the Void. Only the winning pair will be safe. Despite working in pairs, you will only vote for individuals in the vote, and any 2 eligible individuals may be voted into the Black Hole despite the pairings. You have
(expired on 2018-02-20 12:00:00)
to complete the mission.
Sup, later.

Because skyscraper heights can be varied, we are using the following standards from this website: http://www.skyscrapercenter.com. Please use this website to check for heights.

1) Use buildings that are either completed or architecturally topped out. Do not include planned or "on hold" buildings.
2) Use the standard of "Tallest Architectural Feature" - which on that website is listed as: Height - Architectural
3) If you see more than one building in the same screenshot, assume that we are including the tallest of the bunch in the complex. Also be sure to check where the red pin is for exact location.

Apologies for this challenge. Referring to real life things make things a little bit out of control. Especially when google maps doesn't want to cooperate all the time. Mods had watched along the way in this challenge, and there were hiccups along the way, because this was a very tough challenge. Nonetheless, due to a mod error which impacted the solution, a time credit was given to the first team to go. This error was corrected in all further runs of the challenge and did not affect any other team. This time credit will be reflected in the final results. Anyway, it's time for results.

Gold Team
(Cephrir and Kublai) finished in:
Spoiler:
Did not finish. Gold Team was stopped after their first incorrect submission, as they had already surpassed the leader's time.

Purple Team
(Chevre and TWIE) finished in:
Spoiler:
47:44! Purple Team is currently in first.

Red Team
(D3f3nd3r and Ghug) finished in:
Spoiler:
Did not finish as well. Red Team was stopped, as they had already surpassed the leader's time.

Green Team
(Gimmick and MGD) finished in:
Spoiler:
Did not finish. Green Team was stopped as well, as they had already surpassed the leader's time. This means that either Purple or Blue will win. Who earned first?

Blue Team
(Meme and Xalxe) finished in:
Spoiler:
51:17! Unfortunately that was not enough so the
Purple Team
has won!

Chevre and TWIE are immune and are not eligible for the vote.

{Void 09}

Two-Faced

Image

ImageImage

{Cephrir vs. D3f3nd3r}

ImageImageImage
ImageImageImage

{Ghug, Gimmick, Kublai}
{Meme, MGD, Xalxe}

Sarah and Bananas were rivals, and I'm sure they'd hate to be stuck together for the rest of eternity. You know, since they were both a bit two-faced with each other. Now that we have pairs challenges, sometimes you, too, are being stuck together and your fate depends on it. I'm sure there would be certain players you wouldn't want to be stuck with for eternity. Luckily, this void is played as individuals, so don't worry.

Aliens have created technology to fuse two individuals into one body. Thus creating two-faced and two-headed people. For this challenge, you will be given access to edit a Google Drawing which has a set of merged avatars of the 26 players that have played in The Void. You will see a set of morphed images of various combinations of the 26 players. Some player avatars may be used more once and some may not be used at all. Each image is a combination of exactly two player's avatars. However, in this challenge, the goal is not solely to identify the two players avatars in the image. In this challenge you will be given several clues. Each clue will connect to two different adjacent squares. In each square you must place a merged avatar from the choices available. The merged avatar you select must apply BOTH sets of clues to the pair of players in the merged avatar. For example, if a square connected to the two clues said "Modded 'Survivor: One World'" and "Watched '13 Reasons Why' together", then a potential answer may be a merged avatar of CuddlyCaucasian and pablito. However it is is important to note that the "Modded Survivor: One World" will likely connect to another clue on the other side, so you should also look for a merged avatar that may include one of the other combinations of CuddlyCaucasian, OhGodMyLife, pablito and SummerInWonderland. Please note that each clue refers to a pair of people and when the word "together" is used in a clue, it will only refer to the pair inside the merged avatar. Therefore for "Watched '13 Reasons Why' together" you must look for the CuddlyCaucasian/pablito merged avatar. For example, if hiplop and SummerInWonderland had also watched together, you would not look for hiplop/pablito or CuddlyCaucasian/SummerInWonderland cominbations. Clues will refer to the pair in the merged avatar and only refers to events prior to Mission 9 within The Void thread in the LSG forum. No answers require discord information. Some squares may have more than one answer possible, but there is only one way to place all of the answers. Each merged avatar will be listed with a letter to help you organize. Not all merged avatars that are provided will be used in this puzzle. You will need to leave some of them out. To begin, please notify a mod, who will give you the link to a google drawing. To finish, you must correctly place all merged avatars and your time will not complete until you have completed the puzzle correctly. You must provide your answer by giving the number of the squares and the letter of the avatar that you have chosen (especially if the mod is on mobile). You must notify a mod to check your answers to end your time. There is a
5 minute penalty per incorrect submission
.

The player in the black hole with the slowest time, as well as the player in the void with the slowest time, will be eliminated from the game. You have
(expired on 2018-02-22 18:15:00)
to complete this challenge, provided that a mod is available when you are. You are allowed to resize the images and zoom in if necessary.

In preparation for the next requirement for the game, all players should submit your answers to this http://whenisgood.net/4x9dzci so that we may schedule live for the next game event.
Sup, later.

{Mission 10}

Asteroid Field

Image

Navigation is important, especially when there's a lot of crap floating around in this galaxy. Even more with all the drama in this game. This challenge will test your pair's ability to maneuver through tight spaces. For this mission, you will all be working in pairs again and this challenge will be completed live between the four pairs. At this point you may discuss strategy with your partner but
you may no longer strategize with opposing teams for the remainder of the challenge.
Based on the schedules that you completed, we will begin this challenge at Saturday 8pm EST ((expired on 2018-02-24 20:00:00)). It will continue until completed. Remember that only the winning pair will be immune and the rest will fight it out where 1 of 2 will be eliminated in the black hole and 1 of 4 will be eliminated in the void. This is a classic strategy challenge called Blokus.

Game board

GAME RULES

The game will be played on a 20 by 20 square board. Each of the four pairs will receive 21 game pieces, the shapes of which are shown below.

Image

Each pair gets to place one piece per turn. Teams may be put on a time limit. The goal of the game is to play all your pieces eventually. Each pair should begin in a separate corner and works inward from there. After the first turn, you can play anywhere on the board, as long as it is a valid move. Either member of a pair may post on your turn, but if both post during the same turn, only the first post will count. Only one member of a pair is required to be online during the challenge.

The most important and ONLY rule of Blokus - the piece you play must touch the corner of at least one of your other pieces and should never touch the side of any of your own pieces. See the figures below. You can touch the sides of other players' pieces.

Image

The game ends for a pair when he or she is unable to place any more pieces on the board using a valid move. The game itself ends when no one can place any more pieces on the board.

SCORING

After the game ends, count the number of pieces each pair was unable to place on the board. Each square in the tiles that are not placed counts as a negative point. For example, if one 4-square tile is not placed on the board, that would give the pair a score of -4. A bonus of 15 points is awarded to a pair if all of his/her pieces got placed on the board. An additional 5 points are awarded if the 21 pieces were placed on the board and the last piece placed is a single square.

The pair with the highest score will win, while the three other pairs will head to the Black Hole Vote.

The game will take place using this google spreadsheet. In order to play a tile, either player in the pair may post in-thread the number under that tile in the image of the tiles shown above, as well as the coordinates for the cells the tile will cover up. For example, if I wanted to play Tile #8 in the top left corner, I would give the coordinates A1-B1-A2-B2. Starting positions have been randomized.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

This means that Cephrir and TWIE are immune and the rest will go up for the Black Hole Vote where 2 players will go into the Black Hole and the other 4 will be in The Void
