I'm meh. I was finding it hard to get any enthusiasm for this game, but I don't want to inconvenience anyone else who wants to play on, and I'm not going to hurt the town by flaking out when there's no replacements.

However I DO want to hear from the living players by PM on whether they want to continue or not. Given the difficulty in continuing such a monster game, I will require a higher threshold of 'interest' than in that first checkin.

Okay, I've heard from everyone, and 7-7-1 is not NEARLY enough to continue the effort needed to wrap this game up. So I'm calling it over as it stands
(happy scumday to me?)
I will leave the thread open for commentary, of course, and will get the archive of the 200 recovered pages uploaded soon. THANK YOU all for playing!

I don't want to reveal the ENTIRE setup just yet, but I will say there were definitely some balance problems, both for Town and Scum (and to a degree the 3rd-party role). They came at different times, but the biggest one was I mistakenly answered an Archangel's question about self-protect in the affirmative. I can only plead narcotic painkillers... :shifty: or something. Once I'd said it though it became part of the game, and while not totally irrevocably, it did shift a few things in ways I didn't expect. It definitely wasn't part of the game design, and won't be in the future (unless it is).

Also, the first game lasted approximately 7 weeks. The second one, almost twice as large, lasted 5 weeks. So I balanced some roles with that in mind, and when people stalled and deliberated, that threw SEVERAL balance points into a cocked hat. :roll: Yes, I expected you to learn to HEAL, but slowing down punished Town as much as it helped, if not more.

Lastly, of course, the reinforcement mechanism. I think it can work well for certain types of Mafia games, and is probably the best thing to come out of this game, even if it wasn't perfect yet.

the problem with the reinforcement mechanic is not knowing the alignment of the person who flaked... as this makes analysing past events near impossible especially when so many did flake out.

thanks for modding flay, i enjoyed it even though the ending is a disappointing

Mod spec DEFINITELY hurt this game (both the folks who came to bizarre conclusions from public evidence, and those who slavishly believed it would be the same design as the second game even though that game differed significantly from the first). I'll have to look at my notes to see the most egregious examples.

I feel better about this. Would have been one of my last pushes, plus I liked the fact you were compiling the hurt/heals :lol:

My other guesses were Seraphim and Maxous.

The whole Spring-Zaj thing was depressing. I had Zaj as scum till the end. Spring would logically be the only scum archangel is such a role existed. However, never using that ability to stop the hurts on Amrun/Batt? Probably town.

If any new replacements were scum, I'd lean towards Andrius.

Firestarter was one of the hardest. I had him as more town than Slandaar, so I finalize it at town. However, see Satan speculation below.

Didn't think that NS was SK. You know, since he was using HP adding power. He wasn't killing us with kindness.

If there was a separate Satan-like role, and it wasn't NS, than I put it at Spring or Firestarter. They could both be the SK while hunting down scum, and both were highly active.

Am I forgetting anyone?

I agree with slandaar that the replacement mechanic was incredibly frustrating when alignments didn't flip. It did allow replacements to come in without any baggage but all the flakers killed this game.
