In terms of new Pokémon, I love this generation and I really liked the last - I'm liking their strategy of creating a relatively small amount of Pokémon each generation (60-90) and concentrating on making most of them great, unlike Gen V which tried too hard to make as many new ones as possible with 156, resulting in a lot of mediocre designs.-

I am not a fan of the "call for help" mechanic. It's really fucking stupid when I'm just trying to catch a damn Pokémon and I have to fight five of them before it fails to find help.-

It really works during the Totem battles, and I enjoy it then considerably.
It's kinda irritating during wild battles, but usually if I'm wild battling then I'm either trying to level up (in which case it's just exp), or I'm trying to catch a Pokémon or run through the area so clicking the "Run" option generally isn't a huge deal. So while it is just a minor irritation rather than a big huge problem with the game, it is an irritation which I find myself trying to work around.-

That is the one benefit, you can kind of mess around until you get a specific gender of something.
Right now I'm on Route 4 (like I said, I'm REALLY taking my time with this game) & rolling w/the following team:
Dartrix
Snorlax
Grimer (I just want to see how the Alola form feels - secondary dark type seems handy)
Cutiefly (deceptively good!)
Growlithe
Magnetite
It's nice that HMs aren't going to be a thing. I plan on phasing out some of the Gen1 Pokémon as I go along. I also haven't gone hunting for rare Pokemangs yet.
How Oricorio (the dancing bird one)? I caught one but I haven't gotten a chance to try it out yet.-

Oricorio is amazing, Electric/Flying is the best type for it. The ability comes in handy when fighting other Oricrios

Oricoro is kind of neat, since it has the Darwin thing going on- different islands have different forms. As far as quality goes, I don't know.
The SOS mechanic is supposed to be really good for competitive batters, since each pokemon counts separately for ev training, and the pokemon called during the chain can have the Pokemon's hidden ability, and have progressively better IVs. If I remember the Smogon thread, the third pokemon called is guaranteed to have 2 perfect IVs, and the fortieth is guaranteed to have four perfects. Though I imagine that if you don't care about competitive, it's probably just annoying. One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.-

I finished my Dex last night to meet my goal of one week. A living dex of all the new pokemon (and the new forms of old ones) plus alternate forms ready to transfer with just touch required for old pokemon I have sitting in Bank already.
Next step will be to breed a shiny Minior (because you can't SOS chain him for some dumb fucking reason) to complete the full core spectrum.Official Gimmick List:
INVENTOR OF UPICK!LORD OF THE 11TH HOUR!ASEXUAL!KING SCAR APOLOGIST!DREAMER OF THE NE0N DREAM (SUPP 2021 LAST PLACE WINNER)!
