So no BP I assume...
Ok. If we don't want to play that strategy that's fine. I guess I'll just VOTE: osuka because it seems everything so far is pretty random.

As discussed before, I'm not sure if it's beneficial or not; both in terms of whether it's town-positive or good for the game in general. I'd lean towards no it's a bad idea.

I'd say yes to the former and potentially no to the latter.

It's good for town. If you claim bp, then we know that there is either a tracker or a jailkeep, and in both of those scenarios we have a confirmed townie.

Honestly, I've only really learnt seriously about it in this game. I've seen it used in other newbie games I had a quick look at before my first one but never really looked into the positives and negatives of it.

I completely see Mario's point on the game potentially devolving into a boring "Follow the Tracker" game, I'd hate to win like that, it wouldn't be fun in the slightest and none of us would really learn anything, so that's a big negative towards using this tactic. In general I kinda agree with him that "break the game" tactics are against the spirit of the game, especially in a Newbie Game where we are supposed to be learning how to scumhunt effectively.

As to whether the information itself becomes more helpful to scum or town, actually looking at it, I'm not convinced it's a good idea. If the BP claims, then he becomes confirmed town unless CC'd, which is also a town-win anyway. Though scum also then learn whether we have a Tracker or a Jailkeeper, they can use this information to try and tailor their PR spotting towards that particular role (looking for crumbs specific to that role, tells towards investigation results etc) while town learns nothing in particular about the setup except a BP exists in it. If there is no BP claim, then scum again get an idea as to what PR roles we have (for instance, if they have a Roleblocker they know for a fact that we have a Cop and a Doc, and can again tailor their PR search) whereas we learn...nothing.

TL;DR: There's a one in three chance we get a confirmed town-player with a trade-off to giving scum info about PR, and a two in three we give them info with no benefit to us. When I put it like that, it's a bad idea from our perspective even before we get the consideration that it's not the right way to play the game in terms of principles. So, I'm against it.

Vanilla townies wouldn't learn anything, that's right. But the jailkeep or the tracker would know what strategy to use from that point on. In other words, if a BP exists, the tracker would know not to out until he gets a "gulity" investigation, and the jailkeep would know he could get roleblocked. If they learn that there is no BP, tracker can claim and we can do a follow the tracker strategy from there. Altogether, it only serves to help the town PR's. Also if cop exists, and if someone claims BP, cop would know that person is guilty. And if doctor exists and someone claims BP, they know that person is guilty.

It seems like it can only help town PR's in determining what they need to do, when they need to out, etc.

It might help mafia, but it doesn't hurt town.

Actually the absolute best option is that there's no bulletproof and there is a tracker because then tracker claims safely.
