April 5
: The Vienna Game Day

Today, let's talk all things chess. Thoughts on openings or other strategies? What is your chess claim to fame? Who is your chess inspiration? Are there any chess variants you like?
Is it obvious from these questions that I have never actually played chess??
Since we have a whole dedicated chess subforum, the best way to celebrate this theme would be to issue a chess challenge!

April 6
: Movie Marathon Day

Image
Vanuatu

Movie lovers have delighted in a variety of movie-related fun in The Whole Sort of General Mish Mash. We've watched them together (and might again if we bug VashtaNeurotic to get us organized!) We've even reviewed them together and answered trivia related to them together!

I'll give two suggestions on how to celebrate here: (1) Let us know the last movie you watched and what you thought of it. (2) Inspired by Kublai Khan's award-winning "Guess the movie from the screenshot," post a movie screenshot for us to guess. :] Here's one for you:

Spoiler:

I am planning to watch Howl's Moving Castle before Movie Marathon Day ends. Will try to report back if I do.

Spoiler: my guess
That's Bend it Like Beckham

While it's been a few days since I've watched a movie, I do have plans to watch one tonight. It is... definitely not a good one by any means and I'm sure I will not have a good time, but I am inflicting it upon a good friend so that'll make up for it!

Edit: But also, I track the movies I watch on Letterboxd and while I don't often give a review, I do try to give ratings. People are more than welcome to follow me there, I'm xofelf there too.

Last movie I watched was Office Space. Wasn't super impressed by it, I know it's kind of got a cult following though. Some parts were funny I suppose.

In honor of Kublai Khan's door clues...

Yeah, I got no idea, I can't identify the actor in the dark. My only guess is it's a movie from the last 10/15ish years that either features a werewolf or other transformation power, but none of the ones I know have the vibe of this so I got nothing.

In that case my guess would be No Strings Attached, such a scene would fit in and the only ones I remember Kutcher in are that, Jobs and Butterfly Effect, none of which I've seen. Apparently he's also in Dude, Where's My Car? which would be my second guess for sure.

All the guesses on my screenshot were correct. I do not recognize any of the others!! Howl's Moving Castle was interesting and a little weird.
