An interesting and influential interpretation of More's

Utopia

is that of historian Quentin Skinner. He thinks More was taking part in the Renaissance humanist debate over true nobility, and that he was writing to prove the perfect commonwealth could not occur with private property. Skinner sees the character Raphael Hythlodaeus as embodying the Platonic view that philosophers should not get involved in politics, while the character of More embodies the more pragmatic Ciceronian view. Thus the society Raphael proposes is the ideal More would want. But without communism, which he saw no possibility of occurring, it was wiser to take a more pragmatic view.

Raphael's Utopia had many characteristics that More ostensibly disagreed with as a highly devout Catholic. Divorce, euthansia, married priests, female priests, and religious tolerance were all features of Utopia's society. Even more confusing is the criticism of lawyers in the book, given that More was the most influential lawyer of his time, at least in England, as Lord Chancellor

I feel like this is another poke at me, if you're referring to my answers to Porkens' questions, they were about hypothetical situations and game theory. I'm not telling anyone how to play the game. And if you're referring to the time when I said you were lurking and I didn't like it regardless of playstyle, I'm sorry but that was true.

i'm not confident enough in any associatives to say anything right now. anything i say now would pretty much certainly change, probably before this day is even done. with that in mind there's not a lot of town benefit to me making a claim - if i peg scum then certainly they'll change their playstyle, and if i hit town then scum gain information as to what false narratives or mislynches are easier to push. someone will probably interpret this as being "noncommittal" and scummy, but it's just how i play the game and i think it's the right move.
