They really have these contests on American Big Brother? I know they don't on the British or Dutch versions... I also thought this was just for the forum...

BBUSA is much different than BB around the world. We tried the international format in season one and it flopped badly so they completely re-did the show.

Yeah I've been reading about it - I wonder why it flopped so badly?

I guess maybe the whole Big Brother format was really fresh and new in most countries but there're so many competitive game shows on American TV that they needed something new... dunno...

Actually, original BB was pretty much the second competitive reality television debuting right after Survivor (which was a huge hit). CBS promoted it as the perfect companion for Survivor. It likely flopped because of a boring cast and things like this...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJiTo5YcX4I

I guess cast makes a huge difference... UK BB has had mostly really good housemates - although ratings divebombed in Season 4 when they had a lousy cast... The only one that wasn't instantly forgettable got voted out first!

Coincidentally... UK Season 4 was also the only one that didn't have any gay/bisexual housemates... I guess straight people just don't make good TV...

Yeah I was persuaded not to push PBuG over. I could have corrected myself in the thread but in retrospect I'm glad I didn't, since it's clear that others tried to push him over based upon what I said.
