STUFF I'D LIKE YOU TO KNOW

(I) Use common sense. My job is not to provide you with lawyer-grade loophole-proof rules.
(II) The rules are set in jelly. I may change them if I realize they are insufficient, and they are also negotiable if you don't like them.
(III) Stuff in the forum rules and guidelines naturally applies.
(IV) If you need any clarification, or you just want to have a scream about the game, feel free to talk to me. I'm here to help.
(V) Modkill fishing does not make me a happy camper. I will seriously consider all grievances brought to me, but don't overdo it.

SOME OTHER IMPORTANT STUFF

(a) Votes (and anything else meant for me) must be emphasized by bolding, underlining, altered size, setting it on its own line, or anything that communicates to me that you are not simply
referring
to the act of voting (or wondering aloud). Reasonably obvious votes will be counted where possible, but understand that I do not frequent the forums and may not be familiar with pet names unrelated to the original username.
(b) Unvoting is not necessary to place a new vote.
You may not vote for yourself.
No homemade votecounts, please.
(c) Deadlines will initiate a brief no-discussion period with only voting to determine the lynch. The vote requirement will not change.
If the deadline fails to produce a lynch, there will be no lynch.
Deliberate nonlynch takes as many people as would have to abstain from voting to force it - usually, half the players, rounded up.
(d) Players may talk in twilight, except for the lynched player. You may drop an extraneous ghost post in the thread on your way out if you die. (Abusing this privilege may get one of your team modkilled.)
(e) Nights will end around half a week to a week after they start, depending on player count.
If you miss the night deadline, your choice will be completely random.
Shared abilities require an indication of who is using them, and investigative roles will not receive their results until just about the end of the night, unless it is an open setup and obviously not necessary.
(f) Please don't use aggravatingly bright colours like yellow, cyan, or white. I don't care if you use colours I tend to use, as long as you're not trying to impersonate me.
(g)
You may not do anything to yourself
- vote, kill, investigate, track, watch, whatever - except redirect someone else's action onto yourself.
(h) The game will be called when: (i) a surviving team achieves victory by completely eliminating all opposition or making this absolutely inevitable; (ii) opposing parties remain in voluntary standoff; (iii) opposing parties are trapped in deadlock; (iv) everyone is dead; (v) some ridiculous situation arises that forces me to end the game prematurely.

Standard mafia information:

~ Lynches take a simple majority.
~ Daylight modkills shift the game to night.
~ Replacements will be made for excessive inactivity without prior notice.
~ Pre-game is available for 'night' talk.
~ Living and dead players are not meant to interact with each other.
~ Issues more severe than a votecount error should be handled with the moderator privately.
Modkill situations:

~ Communicating with other players outside the thread, except where specified in your role.
~ Editing or deleting posts.
~ Quoting key phrases from your role description in the thread.
~ Quoting communications from outside the thread (with myself or other players) into the thread.
~ Hiding messages in the thread via teeny text or background colours.
~ Sabotaging your team.
~ Impersonating the moderator(s).
~ Fictional imitations of any mentioned bans.

MORE STUFF!

Setup: Pie E7
(goon; roleblocker) vs (cop; doctor; townie; townie; townie)
Cop is guaranteed sane.
Doctor is guaranteed normal.
Roleblocker is able to roleblock and kill at the same time.

One roleblocker has the following:

RoleYou are a
Mafia
Roleblocker
.
Your partner, [
player
], is a
Mafia
Goon
. At night, you may talk to your partner and send in a kill between the two of you.
Your team may also roleblock a player each night, as long as you are still alive. You can kill and roleblock two different people at the same time in this game, even if you are alone.
You win when you have eliminated all opposition (or this is inevitable) with some part of your team still intact.
[/area]

One goon has the following:

RoleYou are a
Mafia
Goon
.
Your partner, [
player
], is a
Mafia
Roleblocker
. At night, you may talk to your partner and send in a kill between the two of you.
Your partner can also roleblock a player, but you'll have to make do without if (s)he dies.
You win when you have eliminated all opposition (or this is inevitable) with some part of your team still intact.
[/area]

Three townies have the following:

RoleYou are a
Town
Vanilla
.
You sleep at night.
You win when you have eliminated all opposition (or this is inevitable) with some part of your team still intact.
[/area]

One cop has the following:

RoleYou are a
Town
Cop
.
You can send in an investigation each night to find out whether the player is a member of the Mafia or not. These results are guaranteed to be accurate.
You win when you have eliminated all opposition (or this is inevitable) with some part of your team still intact.
[/area]

One doctor has the following:

RoleYou are a
Town
Doctor
.
You can protect a player from the Mafia's kill each night.
You win when you have eliminated all opposition (or this is inevitable) with some part of your team still intact.

Corn dogs are an American food I believe, I don't think I've ever actually seen one, much less eaten one.

I decided I really didn't like the username of the account I signed up with so I made a new one and am abandoning the old one once its games are finished. Well spotted!

Drakethefake, do you prefer playing as town or as scum? Why?

zwetschenwasser, what do you think about people complaining about your playstyle in MD?

I recommend them. Tasty stuff. I bet you can find some frozen somewhere.

I can't answer your other question, as I've never gotten a chance to play as scum. I think I'd enjoy it, though: I've always preferred hiding to seeking Hide-and-Seek.

Well, it's certainly one way to go about kicking the game off. I'm a bit bemused by how prevalent it is here though, it seems like literally every game has random votes for the first dozen posts or so. I wonder if other ways might be worth using, too. Asking a few questions, for example!

Eh, it's mostly traditional around the site and one of the most common ways to start off the game. I guess most people don't want to dive into a more serious tone quickly right away and I accept that. People can start the game however they want so if you want to ask questions to start it off go ahead.

Random voting is always the most efficient way to start a game, because it always turn serious at some point or another.

There's no rush in delving right into the game and turning into a serious mode. With random voting people can become accustomed into getting a feel on the game while slowly transiting into a more serious state of gameplay. Like I said it's more traditional to random vote around the site and easier instead of diving right into theory speculation and serious observations. It's not a major matter to dwell on in my opinion. The game will unfold over time.
I'm still working on that. Ideas: set-up speculation where appropriate; relevant theoretical/tactical questions; asking about past experiences; and, most importantly of all, asking people if they are scum.

Conspicuous_other, are you scum?
Telling from how you play the game so far your more of the "Get down to business" type of person and there's not wrong with that. However questions like "Are you scum" are invalid. The scum wouldn't answer truthfully because if they did then they lose.
<snip>
I am afraid you may have fallen afoul of the "too townie" fallacy. I appear to be on the side of the town because, in fact, I am!

I wonder where popsofctown is... maybe he didn't realize the game has started?
This kind of proclamition is in fact ironic because here you state "too townie" fallacy (which I am well aware of) does not apply to you, however you want to get the game serious right off the bat and are asking questions to point out scum. These are not suspicious in themselves but how you state "I appear to be on the side of the town because, in fact, I am" is pushing the limits of credibility in how your town and can be as seen as trying too hard to show your town. At the moment I am content with my vote (even if it was random)
