Rules

- Stolen from q21, with slight modifications -
Last Edit - 22/04/09, 18:00 (GMT)

*** THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE ***

This is a game - it's supposed to be enjoyable. Have fun and treat each other well. Undesirable behaviour (personal insults and the like) will not be tolerated.

GENERAL
  • Please treat this game as a commitment and participate.
  • No discussion about this game is allowed out-of-thread, unless your PM explicitly permits it.
  • When dead, you may make a single "bah!" post.
  • I write in
    INDIGO
, in case you hadn't guessed. You do not.
  • GREEN
is my is my flavour text colour, so don't use that either.
  • Do not write in painfully small or invisible text because it is really annoying.

  • Do not edit or delete your post, even if you have the power to do so. I will deal with formatting errors and duplicate posts on request.
  • Do not quote directly from your PM. You will be modkilled. If the need arises, you may PM a paraphrased version for approval.
  • While mod-like is akin to god-like, the truth is that I make mistakes. Please let me know if I do.
  • Any in-thread queries should be prefaced with
    MOD:
    or
    Spolium:
    .
TIMING & ACTIVITY
  • Each deadline will be set arbitrarily. Each deadline will be a minimum of two weeks after it's in-thread announcement.
  • A deadline extension may be requested within the five days leading up to the deadline. Maximum extension request is one week.
  • Each night will last for 5 days or until all night actions are in, whichever comes first.
  • If you don't post for 72 hours you will be prodded. If you don't resume posting within 48 hours of a prod I will begin looking for a replacement.
  • Should you need a fourth prod in a single game day I will simply skip to looking for a replacement.
  • If I need to go get a replacement the deadline will be extended for as long as necessary.
VOTING & LYNCHING
  • Votes should follow the format
    vote: [playername]
(colon/capitals are optional). The [playername] must be clearly identifiable.
  • I do not require that you
    Unvote
when changing votes, but it would be appreciated.
  • The lynch will take place by a
    simple majority vote
(i.e. more than half of those playing).
  • Failure to achieve this target will result in
    NO LYNCH
    .
  • You may vote for NO LYNCH if you wish.
  • Once someone is lynched they're dead (see the fourth
    General
    rule).
  • Once a player is hammered, unvoting will not save them.
  • The rest of the town is free to continue posting until I lock the thread.
If any of the above is unclear, please PM me and tell me what you need to know.

Role PMs

mafia goonYou are a
Mafia Goon
! You and your scumbuddy
[SCUMBUDDY]
swore a blood oath to rid the town of those who give you strange looks in public (that is, the entire population).

Each night you may send me the name of a player, most likely resulting in their gruesome death.

You win if the number of scum alive is equal to the amount of townies or nothing can prevent the same.

mafia roleblockerYou are a
Mafia Roleblocker
! You and your scumbuddy
[SCUMBUDDY]
swore a blood oath to rid the town of those who give you strange looks in public (that is, the entire population).

Each night you may send me the name of a player, which will prevent them from using their ability for reasons unknown. It works though, and that's all that matters.

You win if the number of scum alive is equal to the amount of townies or nothing can prevent the same.

NB. The roleblocker becomes the nightkiller if the goon dies, and may do both at once.

docYou are a
Doc
! You are well-regarded as the finest healer in town, having established yourself well - your bedside manner is renowned the town over! Those who receive your care are almost pleased that they needed it in the first place.

Each night you may send me the name of a player, and they will be protected from harm.

You win when all the scum are eliminated.

copYou are a
Cop
! When you were little, you wanted to be a superhero. Life taught you the harsh lesson that superheroes are but a fantasy. Don't be sad, however - your strong sense of justice has bred in you the finest investigative police officer this town has ever known!

Each night you may send me the name of a player, and your investigation will confirm their alignment.

You win when all the scum are eliminated.

nurseYou are a
Nurse
! You are well-regarded as the second-finest healer in town, having established yourself well - your bedside manner is renowned the town over! Those who receive your care are almost pleased that they needed it in the first place.

If a doc dies, you take his place (until then, you are a normal townie). If and when this happens, you may send me the name of a player each night, and they will be protected from harm.

You win when all the scum are eliminated.

deputyYou are a
Deputy
! When you were little, you wanted to be a superhero. Life taught you the harsh lesson that superheroes are but a fantasy. Don't be sad, however - your strong sense of justice has bred in you the second finest investigative police officer this town has ever known!

If a cop dies, you take his place (until then, you are a normal townie). If and when this happens, you may send me the name of a player each night, and your investigation will confirm their alignment.

You win when all the scum are eliminated.

townieYou are a
Townie
! Alone you are one man with one vote, but together with your townie friends you can hunt down the scum, break their legs, do all manner of nasty things to them and finish up with a good old traditional home-brew lynch mob. I'll look the other way while you do it.

You win when all the scum are eliminated.

NB. Request to confirm via PM omitted from each PM.

The town has congregated under the worst of circumstances - forming a horseshoe about the resting place of the beloved town official, Keanu Reeves. Heads bowed in solemn remembrance. A dishonest sun sharing it's dishonest warmth with seven figures, draped in black and leaving puddles in their wake.

The spree of recent killings has eliminated the rest of the town's 9,521 inhabitants (though the first one who was particularly well liked was Keanu), and it is time for this decidedly lethargic group of individuals to figure out who is actually killing everyone in the town. Once they've overcome the shock of finding Keanu's head cemented into a footpath, they will gather once more to decide who is scum, once and for all.

They'll find out who did this and deal out some justice.

THEY SWEAR IT ON THEIR SOULS.

Day 1
has arrived!

13th May 2009, 22:00 UTC (click here for countdown)

Just so everybody is completely clear on this: We have one power role and one backup. The power role was selected with 50% chance to be either a cop or a doc. The backup was selected with an independent 50% chance to be either a deputy or a nurse. This means we are guaranteed exactly one of Cop/Doc, but have only a 50% chance that the backup role corresponds to the power role.

The power role knows who they are, and that there is a 50% chance that if they are killed they will be backed up. One might be tempted to say that a potentially replaceable power role could be less concerned for their own safety than usual, but it's probably best to assume a worst-case scenario and play as normal. If threatened with a hammer, claim as usual. Counter-claim false power role claims as you see fit, but assume nothing if a backup is claimed.

The backup will know that they are the backup, and there is a 50% chance that the power role matches with them. One might be tempted to say that a potential power role replacement might take into account their own safety more than a vanilla townie would, but it's probably best to play as if you were a vanilla townie. If threatened with hammer, claim. Counter-claim false backup claims, but think carefully on the best course of action if a power role is claimed.

You raise some pretty good points there ekiM. I guess the Cop/Doc has to keep in mind that they've got only a 50% chance of being backed up. There's no sense being gung ho about that sort of thing. Same for the Nurse/Deputy.

Anyway, just agreeing that the power roles shouldn't be any less careful than they usually are.

Emp, techincally you're not random voting either - and it's early to be certain of anything.

ekim - are you trying to take a leadership role of sorts while expressing opinions on role claiming?

It's best to play it by ear as we have no idea what the circumstances may be like, and in a game with more than one scum, claiming is beyond foolish as it will help the person's scum partner find the best NK -

That's not the first time I have gotten that reason behind a random vote maadneet.

And regardless of the set-up you should always be playing to win the game with the idea that we are all townies and we are trying to search for the scum, so forget that there are powerroles for now until its necessary to worry about it (when someone is at L-1) and let's play.

I felt like explaining that because explicating the set-up was one of the few things worth doing when nobody had said anything. And it was worth getting it out there in case some people were confused.

I don't random vote because I think random voting is retarded.

So far nobody has contributed anything whatsoever to the game itself, in my opinion, including myself.

Andy, why do you say I didn't random vote? So I have played in a game with him where he was scum, I could have played in a number of games with any number of people in here and they could have been scum, in fact, anyone here who has played in a fair few games, I am willing to bet they have been scum on at least one occasion, it doesn't mean they are now, so maybe it wasn't a "random" vote, per se, but it wasn't a serious vote in order to start a wagon.

I mentioned you to express a point to Emp - -

I said your vote wasn't random, and you agree - I'm not telling you it was/wasn't serious, that's for you to decide.

That being said, I was curious as to why Emp wanted a serious vote on someone who did the very same thing -- he had technically two people to have beef with for the very same reason and picked one of the two with seemingly concrete conviction - I'm saying he's suspicious for it, not you.

Though you did get kind of defensive lol

Unvote

Vote: AT

This is a serious vote.

AT lied. (Fl did have a random vote and its not like it was hard to find.)
AT lied again. (i did random vote)
AT acted like a single random vote on a player without any votes was trying to make a bandwagon.

fuzzylightning wrote:so maybe it wasn't a "random" vote, per se....

For not random voting.
It's hardly random when you say "For..."

3. Any vote that is scum-hunting or serious in nature is a vote intended for a lynch, or a wagon to lead to such - - are you saying you put serious votes on people to protect them from wagons? lmao
