Pedit: Yeah. But ultimately, Cyclic's flaws were to do with the way the mechanic as opposed to a set-up thing. Part of the core mechanic was that passing scum to scum resulted in death (or something like that). Sure, it was definitely innovative but it didn't work as well in practise and while innovation is something that I think should be rewarded I don't think a broken mechanic should win 'best'. Cyclic 2.0 was far better, and fixed most of the problems I think.

My honest opinion is that the Cyclical Mechanic should have hands down won the category. It is by far (IMO) the most innovative change to a core Mafia game.

I love Magua but the 'Auction' mechanic had previously been done at least once (in fact I think Zoraster ran the game IRIC) and attempted in OhGodMyLife's abandoned Drinking Themed game before Magua ran it.

The discussion was pretty intense. I argued for Marketplace over Cyclic simply because the category was called "Best" Mechanic/Mutation, not most original. Plus the first Cyclic game (the one nominated that we were judging) had a design flaw that crippled the scum team's chances for victory. We all agreed that if we were judging Cyclic 2, it would win. But in the narrow view, Magua's setup was superbly executed and designed.

Yeah. Basically our judging thread is re-hashing here, I've read all of these posts before.

I told Zora I'd give him my opinion because he seemed honestly interested, but now this is just turning into a pissing match.

I think valuing "new" over all else is a mistake, even when it comes to best mechanic. I'd pick Magua's marketplace mafia over Cyclic 1 because though it may not have been the first time the concept has been tried it did it the best. It had the benefit of the games that came before it to iron out many of the problems, but that doesn't change the fact that it did it the best of any of the attempts.

As for Team Mafia being a great competition, well... that's what it was designed to be. That was the mechanic's goal. To the extent a mechanic has both an ambitious goal and succeeds are reaching it, it seems to be pretty successful.

And I grow a little weary of people who seem to think that thinking of the idea and figuring out a way to execute it was somehow child's play. Like "oh, well anybody could have had that idea."

See that's where I think you are wrong. The core mechanic is the passing of powers on a Nightly basis. That's the Core of the Cyclic set-up. The manner in which passing between Mafia teammates is penalized and the set-up is tweaked to hit the sweep spot between Mechanics Masterbation (which I spearheaded in the First Edition) and straightforward scum-hunting is really secondary to the Passing Mechanic.

It's really a great concept that I think more Mods should consider. It lets everyone have the possibility of being a Power-Role and encourages both good Town hunting and good Scum hunting. I'll be the first to admit my Town hunting isn't a strong element of my game and playing in all three games run by Kunkstar (including the original Mini Theme) helped strengthen those skills.

Also, I will fly all the kites, fucking and non-fucking when I please. I am far from my hometown, the Windy City, but it is an excellent place for kite flying, mind you. As for the final statement, I would not say that I am a coward, but you are entitled to your own opinions. I presented a rational opinion, that katsuki and Faraday are talented players( in very different ways). I would gladly expand on my opinion, but peasant-debate-tactics and unwarranted claims will hold no water. I can easily prove that Katsuki is an able player, perhaps moreso than Faraday. It doesn't seem as though you are interested in this, but would rather complain and run crying home to mommy or complain to others (includes you too, MoI).

Regardless of what you say, Katsuki deserved a scummy and is a player worth looking up to. His playing style may not appear to be the greatest in your eyes, but it is efficient. Even if he possesses a remarkably low intelligence (doubtful), his playing style and strategy is peerless.
