What if the game ended the day after the grace period expired, with 90% of the posts in the prior year? You'd have the same problem. There needs to be an arbitrary line and the line needs to be solid.

An arbitrary line is necessary for convenience purposes. Submissions need to be finalized by a certain date so that the scummies crew isn't taken by surprise with a new load of work at the last moment. Since submissions finalize on the 11th, why not say that any game that ended before the deadline is eligible?

Yea, that's what I was thinking. Any game that ends before the nomination deadline can be nominated.

The rule should be that a game's end point is what year it reflects. It should be a DECISIVE rule or you're going to inevitably end up with a shitty situation down the road where a player(s) loses an award for something that technically shouldn't have counted

I nominate Open 470: Cat's Eye (Masons and Mafia) for "Best Performance Pro-Town Team". Town was able to cause scum to mis-fire twice on the first day, another scum to mis-fire on the second day, and a lynch of the last scum on the last day. Town had a lot of confidence in each other and rapidly there were many confirmed townies due to good play.
