Paranoia Mafia -- Game Over

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Sun Apr 01, 2012 10:47 am

Post by The Computer »

Greetings, citizen!

It is the future, and you are a proud citizen of Alpha Complex, a domed utopian society run by a benevolent Computer.

All is foreseen. All is right and just. All is good and pure. All because of The Computer.

The Computer is Your Friend!

You are a Troubleshooter in service to The Computer. The Computer rewarded you for turning in a friend who was guilty of treason. He was executed for this treason, and you were promoted from the anonymous ranks of the Infrared to Red security clearance and made The Computer's trusted agent.

See what love and trust The Computer has for you! The Computer is Your Friend!

As a Troubleshooter, you and a team of fellow Troubleshooters scour the Complex, searching out treason in all its many forms, seeking out those who would destroy Alpha Complex and all that it stands for. The Computer and higher ranking citizens will all do their best to assist you in this, the most important of all goals.

Foremost among these traitors are the members of an ancient society, a gathering of unspeakable evil and incredible malice whose sole driving purpose is the destruction of all that is decent.

They are known only by the accursed name...
Commies
.

Welcome to...

The following rules are clearance
INFRARED
.

I. Rules

  1. - The Golden Rules
  2. The site-wide rules apply. Read them, know them, love them, but do not break them.
  3. Play to win.
  4. I reserve the right to change the rules at any time for any reason. If I do this, the rule changes will be posted in thread.
  5. - The Inviolable Rules
  6. If you’re unsure if what you’re going to do will break a rule, ASK.
  7. We're all here to have fun. Tempers may flare, but avoid personal attacks and keep it civil.
  8. Do not edit or delete your posts in this thread. If there is a problem with a post, such as incorrect formatting, ask me to fix it for you.
  9. Do not quote communications outside the game thread, including role PMs, Quicktopics, etc, in the game thread. This specifically includes PM timestamps. Paraphrasing is allowed. If in doubt, ask.
  10. Do not use cryptography, invisible text, tiny text, or the like.
  11. Do not use any form of provable randomness. Claiming you rolled dice and acting on that is fine. Using dice tags is not.
  12. Do not impersonate or pretend to be the moderator.
If I edit a post, my words will be in purple.
    Do not use this color.
  13. Do not talk about this game outside of this game thread until it is completed, unless I have specifically told you it is allowed.
  14. Do not bring outside factors into this game. This includes making bets, promises of real life rewards, etc.
  15. Do not pretend to break one of these rules. Pretending to break a rule will be treated the same as breaking the rule.
  16. Breaking one of these rules may result in a modkill. If you are modkilled, you may become a Neutral Survivor, and thus automatically lose. Modkilling may or may not end the Day.
  17. - The Activity Rules
  18. Each player is expected to post at least once every 72 real life hours. If a player goes 72 real life hours without posting, they may be prodded. Prods will be announced in thread.
  19. If a player does not respond to their prod within 24 real life hours, is prodded twice in the same Day, or three times in total within the game, they may be force-replaced.
  20. If you will be V/LA, please alert me in the thread or via PM. I do not read the V/LA thread.
  21. Each Day will have a deadline of fourteen real life days.
In the event deadline is reached before a lynch occurs, no lynch will occur.
  22. This game uses Instant Night. All Night actions must be submitted to the mod during the Day.
They may be changed at any point up until the Day ends. The mod will process all actions as part of the lynch scene, and the new Day will start immediately thereafter.
  23. I will accept PMs of conditional actions to take (such as, "If Magua votes me, dayvig him")
  24. I may extend deadlines in the event replacements must be found. This will be announced in thread.
  25. - The Voting Rules
  26. Votes must be bolded to count, and in the format of VOTE: Magua. Abbreviations, missing punctuation, and misspellings will be accepted as long as the vote is bolded and it is obvious to me who is being voted for.
  27. Unvoting is nice, but is not necessary.
  28. Once a majority of votes is reached (# of players / 2 + 1, rounded down), that person is lynched. Day is over, and no further votes/unvotes/Day abilities will be counted.
  29. If you are dead, that is it. Do not post. Not even a "Bah" post.
  30. You may VOTE: No Lynch. It still requires a majority of votes to end the Day before deadline.

II. Setup Rules and Information

  1. Despite any appearances or flavor to the contrary, this is a Mafia game. There is a town, there are scum, etc.
  2. The mod is not a player.
  3. Above all else, make sure that you never, ever, ev...

Image

Pardon me. What is your Security Clearance, citizen?

Red, Friend Computer!

Image

I’m sorry. The rest of the setup rules and information are not available to you at this time.

Friend Computer, I have a question!

Image

Yes, citizen. How may I be of service?

My Role PM says something about Treason Points! How do those work?

Image

Treason Points are only something that mutants, secret society members, and other such traitors would ever acquire. Acquiring them eventually leads to painful yet well-deserved consequences. Loyal citizens do not need to worry about acquiring Treason Points. Are you a loyal citizen?

Er...yes, Friend Computer! Yes! Very loyal!

Image

Given that only traitors wish to know about Treason Points, do you still require more information about them?

Ha ha, no, Friend Computer, no I don’t! Just, ah, forget I asked!

Friend Computer, another question!

Image

Yes, citizen. How may I be of service?

My Role PM says something about informing on other players. How does that work?

Image

Recent IntSec reports show that Commie mutant traitors have a 84.48% chance of dropping 'tells' that can help you identify them as traitors. Familiarize yourself with, and be on the lookout for, these tells, such as, "I’m a Communist," "I’m a telepathic mutant," or "Hi, I’m a Romantic, want to [deleted for security reasons]?"

In the event that you receive information that another player is either a mutant, a secret society member, or some other form of traitor, you may inform me via any of a number of easily-accessible, convenient confession booths. You must be able to give either the mutant power name or the secret society name, as well as give evidence. A post where the traitor claimed this information will suffice; there may exist other methods.

You cannot simply randomly inform on people for things! There must be evidence! Randomly informing on people is treason!

The evidence will be reviewed and taken under advisement. Possible punishments include [deleted for security reasons], [deleted for security reasons], [deleted for security reasons], or termination. It should be noted in the case of termination that, since they are being terminated for being a traitor, they must be a traitor (or else they wouldn’t be being terminated, Q.E.D.), and as such may flip as a traitor regardless of other factors.

*gulp* What if someone lied in a claim?

Image

Lying about treason is treason, and is punished in the same way.

Have a nice day, citizen! Remember, happiness is mandatory!

The TWN Sector briefing room. A typical room to find a group of Troubleshooters in, the briefing room is relatively run-of-the-mill. Uncomfortable benches for you to sit on, a 3" thick polycarbonate wall protecting where the briefing officer would sit, various bullet holes and scorch marks on the walls telling tales of previous weapons fire.

However, there is no briefing officer here on this daycycle. Instead, there is a Computer monitor.

The Computer speaks!

Image

Greetings, Troubleshooters!

I bet you are all wondering why I've called you together?

*various assents, murmurs of "Obviously for a very good reason, Friend Computer!" and the like echo through the room*

Image

Look to your left.
Look to your right.

Reports have been collated from [deleted for security reasons]. These reports have been double-triple-quadruple checked, and have been stamped as "Positively True" by the Ministry of Information. The reports indicate with 100% veracity that there are [deleted for security reasons] traitors amongst the troubleshooters of TWN sector, that is, the communal you.

*various lasers are unholstered and pointed in various directions*

Image

Normally, a confirmed-traitor-to-not-yet-confirmed-traitor ratio of [deleted for security reasons] to [deleted for security reasons] such as this would justify the deployment of a Mark IV Warbot to simply ensure that none of the traitors escaped.

However...

The Computer is generous. The Computer is Your Friend!

*various "Thank you, Friend Computers!", various checking of any possible exits from the room*

Image

Given that recent activity has indicated that there is a projected [deleted for security reasons] percent chance of at least one traitor on any given Troubleshooter team, this will be used as a Troubleshooter-In-Training exercise.

The exercise is simple: Terminate the traitors. Once [deleted for security reasons] traitors have been terminated, the mission will be termed a success.

Fail to terminate all the traitors, and TWN Sector will be have to be cleansed. With a tacnuke. But don't worry about that; I have every faith in your eventual success.

Have a nice daycycle!

So let me clarify something bout these traitor points. Some abilities gain traitor points, and mafia action would usually gain points than others, right

Citizen Saul-R-ESS mandatorily happy to report for duty!

Friend Computer, it has come to my attention that theamatue-R is asking further questions about treason points. Since only traitors have any reason to fear treason points, I would like to
VOTE: theamatuer
as he is obviously one of the traitors!

Thank you, Friend Computer! As always, it is my pleasure to serve.

Citizen Saul-R-ESS mandatorily making some observations!

I must say how that my favorite thing about serving the Computer is that Friend Computer has made it so easy for me to find traitors.

Why just look at theamtue-R, once again doing treasonous things like asking about the rules! Clearly there is no bigger traitor in all of Alpha Complex!

Thank you, Friend Computer! As always, it is my pleasure to serve.

Oh fuckballs.

So, just reread the rules and noticed
the game uses instant night
. For this reason, we should make sure we're not quicklynching. I'm not saying we should necessarily drag it out right until deadline, but let's make sure we're not doing stupid shit, yeah?

Really? That's annoying and really inhibits town PRs.

I don't understand Treason Points or the traitor aspect. If someone gains enough treason points or is correctly guessed they become a traitor and flip as such?
