Jaws what exactly are your Measurments?

I am 5' 6'' and 125 pounds and I am at 20 bmi and I am really skinny. I had to drop all the way down to 110 in the calculator to even barely touch 18 bmi. Me being at 110 would be pretty close to death from starvation/ malnutrition. Honestly, I am going to agree with Junpei on this one. There is no way in hell you work out and only have a BMI of 18.

Tierce: You are not claiming to be a guy who works out a lot. Dancing, swimming, walking, gym is what you did? Swimming will help your shoulders I believe, and I don't know what you did at the gym, but what you did is not the same. You can be sub 18 BMI and be an athlete depending on what exactly it is you're doing.

ShadowLurker: Legs/core strong... upper body not strong. Okay cool so lets see here. 1) They are runners so they do tons of cardio training 2) they have strong legs/core I don't understand. Are you saying that they go to the gym and work on their legs/core a lot or that they must have strong legs/core because they are runners?

Runners don't work out like a typical person does. Most runners I know (know from a forum, I don't know any competitive runners personally) are keeping their weight low on purpose while training the twitching fibers in their muscles to fit what type of runs they do. Also just gonna say that cardio-training is different than full blown working out.

RXK: Yes, I do, and I have spent a lot of time researching this stuff so I don't do stupid shit like a lot of the people at my gym (saw some guy doing a weird thing like 3 sets of squats, 6 sets of dumbell shoulder press and 2 sets of something else lol i wonder what his routine is).

Also females are different than males. Males have bigger bones for one and will have some natural muscle.

HINT: THAT'S WHY THE CALCULATOR ASKS YOUR GENDER/AGE BECAUSE IT FACTORS IN ESTIMATED BONE/NATURAL MUSCLE WEIGHT.

I know runners from another forum - read my post next time (all of it, not just cutting the parts that when isolated look like you have point).

If you have pretty much no muscle, then okay use BMI I guess but you'd know if you're obese or not just by looking at yourself. Seriously BMI assumes you don't have much muscle which is ridiculous because those silly BMI calculators online which turn it into bodyfat assume some musclemass/bone mass which is ridiculous to do.

Yes, if you're an insane gym rat or if you make a living off being in shape (athletes), BMI is a terrible test. But they don't need BMI to tell them they're in shape or pretty much anything. It helps with the average every-day person to know where their BMI is because it can be a good gauge of where you're at and whether or not you should maybe start cutting back on the eating and start exercising (everyone should exercise though, because it's really really good for you both physically and mentally).

Funny! I used to be a very serious competitive distance runner! It's like I'll know what I'm talking about.

Runners lift (all muscle groups)! Runners work out core muscles! Runners do hills which also build quads/calves!

Core strength helps for a complete package and is where you pull from in that finish. Yes, you don't want to be humungous upper body but stronger chest and surrounding muscles help for better respiration, allow your lungs to expand more. Considering distance running is more aerobic than anaerobic (until the finish), you need to breath better. Quads/calves are pretty self explanatory. Plus, lifting and strength helps prevent injury.

Stop being an idiot and stop trying to instigate arguments in every thread. Because there are people that - shocker! - know more about things than you. And then you look like an ass.

Do you still have your routine from when you were a competitive distance runner? Also your height/weight from when you were on the routine would be cool too but not required.

Question AGar: which is better, 24 BMI or 22 BMI? You don't need a gym rat to have the muscle difference. You don't need to be a gym rat to be really strong - just motivated and reliable.

Also "whether or not you should maybe start cutting back on the eating.." is so dumb. It starts shit like "..I'm 24 BMI... my friend Mike who is 22 BMI plays soccer... I need to lose weight.." when in reality you're only like 10 pounds different and maybe you have 8pds extra lean mass and 2pds extra fat which yeah is not as healthy as it seems but in the scheme of things you're actually fine. The only worse tool for figuring out if you need to cut/bulk/how much is the bf% measurement of a home scale.

pedit: Because you think that BMI is useful when it's not. Just tell me this then: Why is it a better idea to use BMI than to get a free bodyfat eval at a gym and look up a beginner exercise plan for their goals?

Ethiopia
dipshits!
That's 19, but with just 2 more pounds it's 20. I think this calculator needs decimal points.

Tests:
Age: 21 Male
Height: 3 feet 2 inches
weight: 50 pounds
BMI: 24

same, but with 40 pounds: 19

average biggest looser contestant:

age 46 male
height 5 feet 8 inches
360 pounds
BMI: 55

hmmm... seems to be average for the USA.
after a wank.
