Ah. This reveals an interesting point. The number of posts indictated in the front page is the number of posts actually on the site and excludes deleted posts. However, each individual post is numbered consecutively and that numbering system includes deleted posts.

So although the front page currently says we have fewer than 482,000 posts, mikehart's post was no. 487,049 and klebian's was no. 487,066. That means there have been over 5,000 deleted posts (a little more than 1% of the total).

For the purposes of this game, it would be impossible to go by by the number posted on the front page (i.e. excluding deleted posts), so we have to use the numbering of individual posts (i.e. including deleted posts). That means that mikehart and klebian are too late. And it also means that the game will be won

before

the front page says we have 500,000 posts.

I also suspect that most guesses in this game were made on the basis on of the number given in the front page and therefore on a false premise. I certainly didn't take this into acount even though I was aware of the point.
