Harry Potter: Oh the horror!! Game Over!!

Status Update: Game Over!!

You walk into the Hogs Head inn and sit down at your regular stool. Madam Rosmerta has seen you come in and has your gin and tonic ready.
The paper boy has just walked in for a Butterbeer - it's a bone chilling day outside.

"Hey there sonny, I'd like a copy of the Daily Prophet."
"That'll be five knuts sir."

You are feeling generous.

"Here's a sickle. Keep the change!"
"Why thank you ever so much sir!"

The boy grabs his beer and runs out.

"My my! It'll be a cold and hard winter up at Hogwarts this year.
As if those brats weren't bothering Dumbledore enough with their increasing acts of delinquence, and now this!"

"What is it?" asks Madam Rosmerta.

"Nothing much...other than the DarkLord apparently proclaiming his dominion over the known world, magical and otherwise. It's claimed that he said he shall be arriving soon in Hogwarts to personally deal with Dumbledore.
Tchah! It's a cock and bull story if I ever saw one! Dumbeldore is the greatest wizard alive and will surely handle what Volde.."

::Sharp intakes of breath all round::

"Er...handle what You Know Who can throw at him."

::Sighs of relief::

"If she hadn't disappeared like she had, I'd have sworn that Skeeter dame was behind all this."
Who knows what the winter will bring up to the castle?!"

The Rules:

(y'all know where they came from now, don'tcha? DON'TCHA?!!)

  • Nights will last around 48 hours or so. If night choices come in earlier, it will dawn earlier.
  • Days will last as long as they need to. If discussion lags, I will impose a deadline. If discussion picks up, the deadline will be rescinded.
  • Votes must be in
    bold
. If you do not bold your vote, it will not be counted.
  • Please be attentive and unvote, before casting a new vote. I’d appreciate it.
  • Lynching will require a simple majority of votes. Once a player has reached the necessary majority, his pleas are useless and any attempts to unvote will be unheeded.
  • You may
    vote: no lynch
    – majority votes of this kind are necessary to end the day without a death.
  • The game is not to be discussed outside of the thread unless your role specifically states that you may do so.
  • Once your death scene has been posted, you’re dead. Stop typing.
  • Don’t edit/delete previously submitted posts
  • Don’t quote any messages from me. You are liable to get mod-killed if you do.
  • If you have a night choice to make, it is due by the posted deadline. I will not wait for you – if you do not submit a choice to me I will make a choice for you, which might result you being quite unhappy
  • If you anticipate being unavailable for more than a 48-hour period, please post a notice to that effect in the thread. Treat this game as a commitment. Be considerate – don’t leave us hanging.
  • I should post a vote count, ever so often, maybe every page or every alternate one. Please feel free to request one should you deem it necessary.
  • If you have any questions, you can pm me or ask in the thread. I'll get back to you as soon as possible, and with the best explanation that I can. You can also pm me if you want to tell someone about your day, or you thought something another player wrote was funny, or just to say hi. :D
  • I am always right, but not always accurate. If I've made a mistake, please tell my by email as soon as possible. If you try to notify me in thread, I'll have to to edit your post and you will most likely be mod-killed.
  • If I'm going to be unavailable for more than a day, I'll post that information
  • Most importantly...this is a game and we're here to have fun. Do your part.
Note:
  • The infirmary will be a place of suspended animation. People currently there should not post in the thread or send in night actions but they are supposed to follow the game since they are not out of it.
  • Also, those not in the Castle anymore i.e. dead people are requested to keep one eye on the game and a mild interest in it even once they are out. The reasons for this might be explained later.
Let's have some fun!!

shadyforce was feeling hungry. Everyone in school knew about the ticklish pear in the painting by now. He also knew the house elves wouldn't mind (in fact, they'd be mighty honoured) giving him some titbits to snack on.
As he slipped out of bed and out to the common room, he looked about carefully lest the hall monitor or a teacher still be around and he be docked points for being up late. Finding the coast clear, he snuck out, only to feel as if he had walked into a bone chilling mist.

"Hullo there, young master Force, what shady dealing might you be up to this late at night?" enquired Nearly Headless Nick.
"What the...? Oh it's you Nick! You spooked me for a minute.
I'm just off to the kitchens for a bite to eat."
"I haven't eaten in nearly 500 years now." sighed Nick, mournfully.
"Anyways, I was off to the dungeons myself to catch up with the Bloody Baron. Something strange is afoot in this castle, and we aim to do something about it.
The kitchens are on the way, I'll accompany you."

"Welcome Sir!" squealed the elves in delight. "What can we do for you?"
"Just a few snacks please. Am feeling slightly peckish. Thought a midnight snack would do me good."
"Ooh indeed sir. We have here for you some apple tarts, roast chicken and some sausages and we couldn't ofcourse forget the pumpkin juice!"
"That's might nice of you. But that'll be too..."

Hisssssss...

"Hang on! What was that?"
"What was what?" said Nick.

Hisssssss....

"That! Sounds like a gas leak to me. We better check it out."
"My dear boy, we
don't
use gas here at Hogwarts. It's only firewood, some coal and lots of magic."
"Then whatever could it be? Oh my..."

Good job docs! (Or NHN:). The question is wheher this clears shady.

It says in the rules that even if someone dies they should keep an eye on the game, i.e. that we could be brought back to life if bumped off. [rhetorical question]How likely is it that someone brought back from the dead is scum?[/rq] It
is
Necromancy.

I hope people's roles are revealed on actual not-returning death... I hate games where you don't know who's gone.

The fact that shady isn't entirely dead yet and the hisses heard lead me to believe we have a hydralisk running around. Or was it called something else? It was a big snake thingy that turned people to stone.

I believe you're thinking of a basilisk, shelper. But only those with Parseltongue can hear it in the movie, so does that mean that shady is someone who can speak parseltongue?!?!?!?!?

So, I'm guessing lynching is one of the things that make people
dead
dead. It would be kind of strange for someone to come back after we agree to get rid of them (or maybe not).

And since everyone else is doing it...

Hmmm there look to be interesting game mechanics at work in this one. :)
Should prove great fun. The only thing I can tell for sure right now is that none of us has the role of Nearly Headless Nick.

How bizarre. You're claiming this as part of your role, or something you've deduced from the game setup and posts so far?

Well, did you read the intro to Day 1? :) I'm taking it that since the mod took control of Nick for the whole intro, and that would be unfair to a player if he used their role to do that with, that none of us are Nick. But then, maybe I'm wrong...

Okay, that's what I was asking about. I doubt that implies that Nick isn't in the game, but of course, it's certainly possible.

Re: Nearly Headless Nick, I was "The Dragon" in
Shrek Mini-mafia
, and Dourgrim used the dragon for his lynching scenes... he said he had no idea what he'd do if I was lynched.

Also, this is definitely the work of the basilisk. I would imagine the Dark Mark would be the mafia, led by You-Know-Who (*Grin*), and the basilisk is the SK.

One note - and I can post this since it has nothing to do with my role - I saw Voldemort alive last night. I was told that I saw him, and passed out, and woke up a few hours later and went back to my room.

Very interesting...why would this information be given to you. Maybe this game is done geographically? i.e. Voldemort was on his way to kill someone and passed by your room, so you saw him? Probably something a little more sophisticated than that. Or maybe you're the one Voldemort targeted, and for some reason he couldn't kill you? Or maybe you're Voldemort himself and this is a brilliant ploy. Hmmmm.

Oh, one other thing. In "Chamber", all the victims of the basilisk didn't die because they saw the snake through something, like a camera lens, a mirror, or a ghost. I would imagine Nick was in the scene to explain why shadyforce isn't dead, only incapacitated.

Also, it was Professor Sprout's mandrake roots that brought the victims of the Basillisk back. I would wager we have a Sprout playing, and would dare guess that she has to wait for her mandrake roots to mature, or can only save someone every even night, or somesuch.

Another possibility - those who were struck down by the basilisk will be revived IF 1)Sprout is still alive, and 2) the basilisk is dead. This might mean that the victims die in a certain amount of days... (to prevent 5 players from coming back day 5, etc)

In the book the persons seeing Voldemort return were:
1. Cedric (Although he didn't survive the meeting)
2. Harry Potter
3. The Death Eaters

I don't think this information was just given randomly, I think Werebear is one of these, that's why I find this so strange:
- and I can post this since it has nothing to do with my role -
I want an explaination........

A valid point, but I tend to think that if Werebear were a death-eater, he wouldn't have come out with this piece of information.

Nice third on the bandwagon, Stewie.

So in the books, Voldemort was roaming the halls of Hogwarts too? I didn't see Professor Quirrell anywhere. This game is BASED on the books, don't be stupid about it.

I'm not sure if I saw him because the death eaters were targeting me, or it was a random occurance... but I posted that for the town's benefit.
