Open 15- Vengeful (Game over!) - before 411

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Sun Feb 18, 2007 11:12 am

Post by Cephrir »

The villagers of the village of Villageton lived, quiet, cliche, peaceful lives. So of course they never expected the mafia to invade their town. Suddenly, they found, they could not recognize one another. The angry Vilageton-ers decided not to go down without a fight!

Alive: (1)

Raging Rabbit
mustafa15,
Mafia Godfather
, wins!

Less alive: (4)

VitaminR, Mafia Goon, lynched Day 1, wins!
Primate, Townie, lynched Day 2.
Cheesefan
The Central Scrutinizer,
Townie
, lynched Day Three.
JDodge,
Townie
, endgamed.

Rules (Stolen from Romanus who stole them from CrashTextDummie who stole them from Mith, and modified):

0. This is a game. Have fun. Don't let things get personal.
1. The game will start with Day. Mafia communication is allowed during the Pre-Game.
2. During Day, players may vote for the player they want to lynch. Votes should be in the form Vote: Player or they may not be counted. It is helpful, but not necessary, to "Unvote" when switching your vote to a different player.
3. Whenever a player has reached a majority in votes, that player will be lynched and his role will be revealed.
4. If discussion lags, a deadline may be set. Since this is a Vengeful game, I hope this is not neccessary, but I can and will set one if need be.
5. Do not talk outside the thread. The Mafia is allowed to communicate during the Pre-Game only.
6. If you're dead, you're dead. Do not talk until the game is over; this includes talking to living players outside the thread.
7. Although there is technically no night phase, talking is forbidden once a lynch has been reached, until Day 2 is officially started.
8. If you have any question, complaint, or comment, PM the Moderator.

Special Rules:

This is a game of VengefulMafia.

* The mafia can't kill at all. There is essentially no Night phase.
* If the godfather is lynched at any point, the town immediately wins. (This is the only special quality of the godfather.)
* If, on Day 1 only, one of the townies is lynched, this townie immediately gets to make a vigilante kill.
* The town
does not
automatically win by having the godfather vig killed in this way.
* Mafia wins when there are at least as many mafia as townies, and the town doesn't have a vig kill to use.

Roles:

There is 1 Mafia Godfather:
You are a member of the mafia with XXX.

Unlike in normal games, you do not get to submit nightkills and you may only communicate with eachother during the pre-game. You win when you have eliminated the town, or when nothing can prevent this.

Take note that you lose the game immediately if you get lynched.
There is 1 Mafia Goon:
You are a member of the mafia with XXX.

Unlike in normal games, you do not get to submit nightkills and you may only communicate with eachother during the pre-game. You win when you have eliminated the town, or when nothing can prevent this.

Take note that you lose the game immediately if your partner gets lynched.

There are 3 Townies:
You are a Townie. You have no special abilities.

You win when the mafia has been eliminated or when the Mafia Godfather has been lynched.

I'm getting some vague anti-town vibes from this post, though I can't quite place why.

FoS Primate.

Is random voting really worth it when it's 3 to lynch?

Nope. Just letting you know that if you actually
are
the godfather and win after making this joke, I'm gonna personally make sure a dead horse's head makes it's way to your nice comfy bed. :P

The statement you made before implied that you'd be surprised if I was godfather. Now you're saying that I have statistically the same chance of being godfather as anyone else here?

That joke implied that a higher
general
chance you aren't, I wasn't comparing you to anyone else. I don't know your playstyle and don't claim for a second to be able to tell if such a play is more likely to attempted by the actual GF or not. The only thing I was actually saying there was that it'll really cool for you/frustrating for us to win if you win as GF after making such a post, and even that was only half serious.

What makes you think it's a joke? Surely if I am Godfather, it is actually more of a planned gambit, and can be totally discounted as being at all part of a joke. The fact that you claim that you do not have the experience to parse the gambit is interesting, too, and I would actually quite like to know what your personal opinion is, without having experience weighing you down.

You mean my "dead horse in bed" post? Well, the obvious fact that it was. I never said your original vote was a joke, but thanks for misrepresnting me there.

I can definitely see it both as a townie, GF or goon play. I can think of reasons for each, and honestly don't think I know what role is more likely to do that 'cause I'll be going into infinite "but what if he
knows
I'd know he knew" loops. Isn't that exactly WIFOM thinking?

Remind me to never ever view my posts when I'm half asleep again. Still, I never meant it was meaningless.
I'd very much like to hear those reasons for each.

Town - Trying to draw some kind of response for scum and/or goofing around.
GF - Reverse psychology.
Goon - Same, only risking less if he gets lynched.

I honestly don't know what's more likely. Maybe if I had a better trained gut or if I knew you better I would, but I so far never saw a play like that and its impossible for me to discern anything from it without second guessing myself to death.

I'd say so. The situation isn't much different from a newbie game.

The whole RR-Primate debate seems a bit useless to me. There's not really much else to comment on.
