You may talk with your partner when it is not Day, and send me a choice via PM of who you wish to kill.

This is commonly known as the setup, for reasons mostly known to Norinel.

Even though many games start with Night, newbie games begin with Day once everyone has confirmed that they understand their role. Scum are allowed to talk by PM in the pre-game stage, but no other "night actions" may be taken.

Rules:
  • Votes should be in bold for them to count, like this:
    Vote: John
. Unvotes should likewise be bolded (
    Unvote: Jane
) so that I can spot them easier.
  • A simple majority of votes (1/2 the number of living players plus one, rounded down) will achieve a lynch and end the Day. Unvoting after that point will not save someone's life. If a deadline is imposed, the required number of votes will be lowered, so be careful.
  • Nights will last up to 72 hours, but may be shorter if all night choices are in before the deadline.
  • Dead men tell no tales. If you get killed, stop talking until the game is over (a single "Bah!' post with no game information is acceptable).
  • Do not discuss this game with other players outside of this thread, unless your role PM specifically stated you could do so (as scum, and then only at night).
  • Do not directly quote any PMs you receive from me; I have already posted the roles above, but this holds true for any future messages you receive from me as well.
  • If you see something you don't understand,
    ASK!
Newbie games are here for people to learn and understand; either I or one of the other players will respond to your question. If it has to do with your role, feel free to PM me directly.
  • Treat this game as a commitment; if you're going to be gone for longer than 48 hours (not counting weekends),
    let us know
. I will replace severely inactive players, but your fellow players may choose to lynch you themselves first.
  • Have fun; don't be an ass;
    participate
    !

And you were the last one to post. Not only that, it's page one, and you've already put someone in hammer range. And why Andycyca over Pwayne? You said they were the last ones to confirm, but you haven't given a reason for voting Andycyca over Pwayne, other than Andy having votes on him already.

unvote: Mr. Flay

Defending myself:

Well, first I'm a townie. Just a plain old townie. No role. No scumminess. After you lynch me you'll find I was telling the truth about that.

Now - Quinnster voted for me already for no reason (except not liking Immanuel Kant or something). I could have just voted for him in a display of reciprocity. But I had already spent a few days thinking about how to vote in the early game. Ive seen a lot of conversations about voting randomly. People didn't seem to like it. I was thinking of better ways to spend day one so I thought of two ideas. First - vote "no lynch" because lynching based on no information would be completely immoral in the real world. The second was to vote based on some real behavior - so I thought, wouldnt it be neat if late confirmation might lead to lynching. It might positively affect behavior and speed up game starts. So I voted for that. I didn't know which person confirmed last though. I picked Andycyca just because he had two votes and we are going to end up lynching somebody so why not let it be andy and move quickly along. Seemed like it was either I do that or make 3 way tie by voting quinless - and isnt this much more fun?

My theory is that Andycyca and Pwayne were off colluding. Dirty mafia scum bastiches.

Ok ok. it isnt really my theory. But this already more fun than random. :)

Well, most games that I have read start with random voting, which my vote for you initially was. That's how most games start, however, most people are careful not to lynch someone prematurely.
You said "we are going to end up lynching somebody so why not let it be andy and move quickly along". The simple answer for that is: there's no case against him yet. I don't know about you, but I'm not going to "randomly" lynch someone just for something to do, I'd rather think this through like a good townie.
Seems a little hypocritical that you'd be against me "randomly" voting for you at the start, and then trying to lynch him for no valid reason.

Also, I love Immanuel Kant. I'm reading Nietzche now, nowhere near as good.

Oh, and since I can't edit, I would rather have 2 votes against me and 2 against Andycyca than three against him, because then we're both 2 away from a lynch.

In addition to what Quinnster said, the other reason we don't want to lynch anyone immediately is because we go blind into Day 2. Quicklynches are bad because they result in little information. After the first lynch and night, we'll generally know two players' identities, but without good discussion on Day 1, we can't use that knowledge very well.

Also, a vote does not necessarily equal a desire to lynch. Yes, a vote that puts someone in hammer range (lynch - 1) is often a willingness to lynch, but first and foremost, the vote is a pressure tool.

Based on their instant shock at my actions and town defender attitudes, my guess is that pwayne, Quinster, and Rime are all townies. Just for the record. oh and me. I'm suspicious of Andycyca and Mr. Flay who are hangin' back, being quiet and who voted for each other in rapid succession. Isn't that an old scum trick? No idea about Elias the thief.

Let's see if my rash predictions prove true!

Ah, but if I was scum, I would likely feign outrage because it's common practice to wait a while before lynching. Also, scum would be outraged if Andycyca was scum and we were about to lynch him this fast. I'm not scum, all I'm saying is, keep your senses open for everyone. Scum lie, they're not going to outright act like scum.

Er, you need to consider the fact that not everyone constantly checks the thread. The fact that some people responded before others means that they were on when others werent, and doesnt really say much about alignment.

I'm confused about you though. In your voting post, you seemed to feign knowing nothing about the game. In this post, you mention distancing ("I'm suspicious of Andycyca and Mr. Flay who are hangin' back, being quiet and who voted for each other in rapid succession. Isn't that an old scum trick?") in a much less naive manner. Im not gonna vote you yet, but I definately have my eye on you.
