Anyone else playing this?

The first campaign expansion is supposed to be coming out this week sometime.

I know this got a huge reception last time but...

We're in spoiler season for set 2 right now if anyone is interested in getting into a MtG-like (instants and blocking, different colors of mana) online TCG.

Its pretty aggressively free-to-play, I came just short of completing a playset of the entire first set for basically free (I spent 5$ on a special deal they were running and 10$ on the campaign expansion)

hi I play this, there's two of us now. currently playing a lot of Rakano Plate, Xenan Killers and Stonescar Burn. was on a Combrei 'tokens' brew for a while, and tried Icaria Blue/Armory for about a week but kept losing so switched to new deck(s). I think the only top tier decks I can't play are Feln Control (Black Sky Harbinger), Feln Tempo (Midnight Gale), and 'proper' Big Combrei (need 4ths of Mystic Ascendant/Parliament/Marshall), I have most of the set1 rares at this point.

topped out at ~37 Masters this month, currently hovering around 90-120ish.

the game already has amazing free-to-play value though, I agree - way better than Hearthstone, can find an article with sources/math but lazy. hell, maybe I'll write up an OP/FAQ if I have the time in the next week or two. I've spent $10 on Jekk's Bounty, spent $25 just to draft when I was starting out, and spent $10 during the event stress test to stock up on Shiftstone for Set 2. been playing for 2 months and have logged over 200 hours. I may have a problem (<.<) but I've never felt like I've
had
to spend money to compete (i.e. MTG).

woo! someone else!

I play a lot of the durdly control-midrange type decks. Big combrei was the first deck i built because apparently i hated shiftstones at the time. Armory is probably the deck i play the most recently but i really just dont think icaria blue is that good of a deck unless the meta is perfect for it.

I always hit masters and then tank my rating while i try out random decks or play meme decks like nictotraxion/spymaster combo/whatever nonsense people post or try and brew an argenport/skycrag deck for the event this weekend.

I've got like 140k shiftstones saved up and im like 200k from the full set 1 but i think im just going to save them for set 2 at this point.

I haven't played in probably 3ish months or maybe more. Considering going back with set 2 coming out though. I mostly played draft. Got to 6th master briefly at my best there iirc. Ended the season somewhere in top 100.

There is a sitechat room where myko and i sometimes talk about things eternal.

It is a pretty neat game.

I have 19. Only played in the first two events, been taking a break from Eternal lately.

Also, these new legends tho: Praxis, Argenport, Xenan, Hooru, Skycrag

Yeah that argenport guy is gonig to be real annoying I think.

Minotaur tribal is apparently a thing now for argenport too, which could be interesting.

So set 2 is great.

Happy they changed revenge-echo interaction.

I just got into this (because i saw implosion playing it on steam)
Seems basically like a f2p magic clone.
I'm okay with that

And it's still happily dumb. It was broken before, yeah (and I don't think that was intentional anyway?)

Yeah its still a ton of value, I just dont think they meant it to be infinite value for the rest of the game on every unit.

Means to an End is currently my favorite card in the game i think.

So much jank, so little time.

set 2's pretty gr8. blew all my shiftstone on 2 Kothon, 2 Makto, and 3 Ayan (and a 4th Parliament/playset of Waystone Infuser/2 Banish) - probably going to craft Heart of The Vaults after another Kothon or two, I have foils of Navani and Obrak I can disenchant if I really need to (and hopefully should hit Masters before the end of the month for that foil legendary). but we'll see how the meta shapes up.

been mostly messing with Xenan Control, Icaria Blue, and I'm now tweaking a Justice/Time/Shadow list after the ETS results went up:

Spoiler: Dark Combrei
2 Seek Power (Set1 #408)
4 Desert Marshal (Set1 #332)
3 Find the Way (Set1 #513)
4 Temple Scribe (Set1 #502)
3 Ayan, the Abductor (Set2 #204)
4 Knight-Chancellor Siraf (Set1 #335)
4 Slay (Set2 #236)
4 Valkyrie Enforcer (Set1 #151)
2 Banish (Set2 #207)
4 Sandstorm Titan (Set1 #99)
4 The Great Parliament (Set1 #338)
3 Xenan Obelisk (Set1 #103)
3 Inquisitor Makto (Set2 #242)
2 Marshal Ironthorn (Set1 #174)
4 Mystic Ascendant (Set1 #116)
5 Time Sigil (Set1 #63)
4 Justice Sigil (Set1 #126)
2 Shadow Sigil (Set1 #249)
3 Combrei Banner (Set1 #424)
4 Seat of Progress (Set0 #58)
3 Seat of Vengeance (Set0 #55)
4 Seat of Mystery (Set0 #61)

borrowed some ideas from both of the Dark Combrei decks in the top 8. running a 2/3 split on Seek Power/Find the Way instead of 4/2 - makes the deck slightly worse against aggro (due to the extra power cost & depleted sigil) in addition to lack of Harsh Rules, so it might be worth dropping Ayan for Combrei Healers, but so far Ayan's been doing alright for me. would improve the manabase a bit, too, but this split does allow me to fit another card into the main, and I think making the deck more threat-dense is the way to go.

could also make room for some Harsh Rules, maybe drop one Enforcer/one Slay/one Obelisk? only played ~7 games with this list so far but haven't really missed having Harsh Rules; overwhelming the opponent with threats usually does the job.

and I'm still tuning the power base, I'm always bad at building these. but something along these lines seems fine.

How do you feel about 3 obelisks? I sorta always feel that any deck running obelisk should run the full set.

I like drawing two per game sometimes, as even your Scribes become 5/5 threats in the lategame, but I don't always want/need two in a lot of matchups, and that's more likely when running the full set. In some matchups I don't even need
one
. I could see going down to 2, actually, but I'm not sure what to replace it with. Maybe a single Annihilate or Vanquish (most likely the former). In decks like Shimmerpack, aggressive Combrei decks with Stand Together and such, and Praxis Tokens (I assume) I'd totally run the full 4 Obelisk.

But again, low sample size so far, so I'll keep this in mind as I tweak the list.

[edit] wording, was tired. am still tired.

could maybe try some number of stand togethers to not lose to wrath too maybe.

im probably gonna start tweaking a list like this myself tbh, i loved big combrei while it was viable.

yeah just crafted the 4 maktos and 2 more ayans im in.

I'm running basically xenan killers + green splashed in for protect/desert marshal/harsh rule/i think i have a couple copies of slay right now. Much fun although certainly plenty of room for optimization especially if I'm willing to craft shit like maktos or more than one ayan. I was initially running swear vengeance because it's just hilarious to topdeck a destiny, killer copper conduit that was already a 5/5 and suddenly have a 12/12 killer with overwhelm but it was just dead in my hand too often.

I'll post a decklist at some point maybe

I was actually thinking if Xenan Control splashing Justice for Makto & Slay would be dece. protect and/or stand together would probably be good considerations for my Dark Combrei list as well.

speaking of which, update: played 5 games vs Dark Combrei mirror, Chalice, Rakano Plate, Icaria Blue, and Skycrag Aggro. lost against AggroCrag and Chalice, but noticed Obelisk pulled its weight in the Icaria Blue/Plate matchups (wouldn't have done much in the other two games), so I went down a Valk Enforcer and up an Obelisk to test 4. went 4-1 on the next set of 5, losing to an Elysian Monsters list but winning against the same Chalice player, Skycrag Aggro, Elysian Overwhelm and Praxis Overwhelm decks. and in none of those matches did I need Obelisk whether I frew it or not - so, 8/10 games it wasn't needed.

10 is still relatively small sample-wise, but I may try going down to 2 and fitting in those Protects, or Annihilate/Vanquish. sadly between work/moving shit/PoGo event I won't have much time to play til the weekend ish.

yeah from playing elysian midrange a ton before set 2 came out: obelisk is your best or your worst card. In a midrange matchup it's king, against an aggro deck it's a loss of tempo that you can't afford until you in practice already have a winning boardstate. Against (feln) control: it does still need creatures to work.

So imo there's some wisdom to twie's comment, either you run all or your run none, I think. Against midrange, or even the mirror, you'll want all. Against the rest, you could do with none. Take 2 or 3 and you won't get the benefit when you need it, and still have a minor downside when you don't.

yeah, thats pretty close to my thinking.

the mirror is usually broken by obelisk.

you dont want to even take a turn off to play them against aggro til you've already turned the corner.

any creature being a must answer is great against control

i built it and started playing and then i got distracted by that fjp control deck on that ets link.

playing icaria into dragons is actually incredible.

i am slightly confused by trailblaze over inspire in that list.

i might be lower on trailblaze than most people though.
