Surreptitious: The Game of Spies

You are in the Cold War. You live day to day playing a risky game of death trying to find out more than the enemy. Every night is a chance for great success, or terrible failure. The stakes are high in this game, and you will have to be able to deduce much if you want to give your team an edge to either end the game quickly by sussing out the opposition, or using cleaver misdirection to keep the enemy from knowing your secrets. The spies are everywhere and its up to you to find out who you can trust and who you can choose to let go. This is a game of choice. You have to think fast if you want to keep the enemy off your tail. Every choice is a calculated risk where choosing correctly rewards you greatly and choosing poorly will be devastating.

The concept behind this game is based largely on investigative roles. All Power Roles are on either gaining knowledge from investigating or misdirecting. When I say the stakes are high in this game I really mean that. Either faction can win this game by Day 2 in this 15 player, very swingy, but balanced game.

Before you decide whether to join this game or not, you really should read the setup, because if you don't you are not going to know what in the heck is going on and why people are voting for Group 1, 2, or 3. Also looking at just the roles is not going to tell you how this game is going to function, so be aware of that.

So read these Mechanics carefully when considering if you want to join or not.

15 Players

Town:

Watcher
Neapolitan
Friendly Neighbor
Universal Backup
7X VT

Mafia:

Follower
Rolestopper
Goon
Traitor

Mechanics

When the game starts, you are put into one of 3 Groups. Players then vote for a Group by simple majority (>50% of votes). This is Day Phase I (DPI). When a group is chosen, it moves on to Day Phase II (DPII). You have 7 irl days to chose a Group in DPI. If there is a hammer on a Group before DPI ends, then that remaining time is given to DPII. DPII is for voting for who to lynch. NOTE: If your Group was chosen, you cannot vote for who to lynch, you can only argue who you want to lynch or defend yourself from lynch. Votes for who is Lynched is also decided by simple majority (>50%) with ofc the caveat that players in that group can't vote in DPII. After a Lynch has been made, the Mafia MUST NK from that same Group that was chosen in DPI if they wish to do a NK. If a Group isn't chosen by the end of DPI then the game goes immediately to Night Phase (NP) and Mafia can NK anyone they wish. I will put a countdown timer for both the end of DPI and DPII in the vote counts. Upon a simple majority being chosen in DPI, DPII immediately is in effect. This means that if I am not there at that exact time to confirm the end of DPI, votes for Lynch in DPII will count. NP is 2 irl days (48 hours). When a Mafia member is lynch from a Group, then the group consolidates into two different Groups. Remaining TPRs, Mafia members and VT will be distributed across the other two groups as evenly as possible via RNG. During NP, anyone can use their ability on anyone they wish, role permitting. When a second Mafia member is lynch from the second Group, the two Groups then merge into a single group and game plays as normal. There will be a TPR for each Group and a Mafia member for each Group. The rest of the Groups are filled with VTs, with a few exceptions: the Mafia Traitor and Universal Backup are both placed into a Random group, both done separately via RNG. Also with that, The Traitor doesn't actually count as a Mafia member. They still win with Mafia if Mafia wins, but what this really means that even though there is two Mafia members in a single Group (Mafia member + Traitor), if the Mafia member who is not a Traitor is Lynched then The groups consolidate into two Groups like they normally would. Also, If Town is Lynched in the group that the Traitor is in, since the Traitor doesn't count as Mafia until all other Mafia members are dead, then it is not Game over. But NOTE: Traitor always shares the same win con as Mafia. All Night Action throughout the course of the game proceed as normal barring the Mafia NK.

This game requires you to post at least 1 time per 48 hour period. If you have not posted for 48 hours you will get a prod. After 3 prods you will be replaced unless you PM me to tell me you are V/LA

Win Conditions:

Towns Win Condition is to eliminate all members of the mafia.
Mafias Win Condition is to have a majority in any one group or nothing can prevent this. Traitor does not count toward majority of a Group until they are the only Mafia member left alive.

Note:
This game is extremely swingy, so if swingy games are not your cup of tea, I would avoid this one.

Part of the fun is figuring out that for yourself. There is optimal play, but I'm not going to tell you what that is.

Honestly this crowd doesn't look like it'll be spamming 20 pages a day so that's nice.

Hydras are not allowed in this game.

The only reason I'm tunneling Ramcius is because no Hydrae have signed up.

If there's a Hydra, I'm tunneling that.

PEdit: Thank God.
