The wind blew, and some papers fluttered down the mostly empty street. The sun was beginning to set on the town. A man stood on a soapbox out in the town square, and shouted for all meandering around to hear. "Aliens! Aliens," he cried. "They'll be coming, and we need to be sure we know how to respond!"

His sermon went on, and most people payed it no mind. He'd been there for years, with the same message - undeterred by glares of passerby's and his general infamy. Today was different, as everyone would soon find out...

Chapter 1: The Before Time

Today, like any other day in this town, was markedly plain. The only hint of disturbance in this otherwise humdrum place was the town crier, who had lately been out on double duty. Normally, he only came out from time to time, spouting nonsense about why God doesn't talk to humans anymore, how GMOs will destroy civilization, or the crimes of humanity against the noble sasquatch. Recently, his beef had been extraterrestrials. And was he passionate as ever about them. From sun-up to sundown, he was on his soapbox, warning the town of an invasion, how to protect oneself, what to do in case of an encounter, and so on.

That made it all the more real, and yet somehow far away. It had only been one week since news of the invasion started, and in many ways, it seemed like a hoax - the town crier's warnings only helping everyone to maintain complacency. Since the initial story broke, not one thing had happened. But paranoia was beginning to build. The town decided we should all meet together to see if we couldn't sort this out, and get some kind of plan drawn out to provide some form of sanity in the imminent chaos.
