I would most wonder what would stop there from being a player enforced "requirement" of saying who they are immediately to everyone they could talk to. That would basically just turn it into a non-anon that can only be played through the forums. While the possibility of outside communication is a large part of the reason I prefer anons, it's definitely not enough for me to even consider playing it. Maybe if there was some way to guarantee that all relationship forming happened before the identity reveals, like a ban on it until 48 hours after you can first make contact with them or something.
I'm probably one of the worst people to ask about the subject, but saying this just in case there are other people who might agree with me on this.
Never be sorry for your little time.
It's not when you get there, it's always the climb.
I think it might be interesting to see what an in-between game would be like. Would it be you can say who you are if you want, but there's no requirement to actually do so? Would people fake being other people in that case? I think it's an interesting idea that I'd like to see how it would work. I love different takes on setup .

Your understanding is correct. Semi-anon was what I mostly played in college.
It helps prevent things like what happened to you/Will in MK, because power players who would get targeted for reputation alone are able to mask who they are.
The problem is that everyone would pretend to be Drench and nothin but politics would be discussed
I HATE YOU SO MUCH PLEASE GO JUMP INTO A FREEZING LAKE - Mr. Freeze
And this was like me realizing that you were a serial killer. - Hathor
"but I must declare my love to Edelgard here, i offer you the treasure I stole from Raphael, an idol LOL" - Shamir
A semi-anonymous game is also something I've been toying with, in a variety of different forms. I'd be interested in discussing the concepts/modding them if anyone wants to hit me up.

No one cares if they find out your ID so you're the best person to pretend to be.

Yeah I don't think someone would be able to pull off totally faking an ID. Like are you allowed to reference conversations that you've had was the person outside of the site? Are you allowed to say "Tell me something only Drench would know to prove that it's you."? I am open to the idea of semi-anonymous games being run, but I'm not sure if I would play them. I suspect they might just become functionally nonanonymous games that are a little messy
I would love for more full anonymous games to be run though, right now there's a grand total of zero that aren't challenge-based. I think the pros and cons have been discussed here and elsewhere, but both anon and nonanon games ought exist. I don't think that's controversial. We just need mods to do it

What do you mean by "zero that aren't challenge-based"? One Survivor game just finished, and a Big Brother game just started. Are you wanting more general Mish-Mash type games to be run anonymously?
Additionally, semi-anonymous can take a variety of forms. It doesn't just have to be something like "Don't tell people your ID if you don't want to". I've been playing around with some variants of this for some time.
